Captain Kris and his crew make you feel at home right from the beginning. The apartment is spacious and clean. One remark: the beds are a bit short for tall people (1.90 m). The swimming pool is nice, and has some sun beds to relax. Supermarkets and restaurants are nearby, though a rental car is advised if you would like to explore the island. The breakfast is a treat every day, with fresh orange juice, tea, toast, fresh bread, fruits, eggs, tomatoes (from his own farm!). Kris organised a Cretan night with delicious local food and wine for a reasonable price. The wireless internet was working well at the pool area, though in our apartment (nr 18) there was no signal available. Mountainbikes and a washing machine are available for free! The beach is nearby, but there are nicer beaches elsewhere.

“Fabulous - value for mid-range money; a lovely place to stay!”

We (myself, hubby and 2 boys of 8 and 12) stayed for a week in August at Kris Apartments. Well worth the money (I found it to be about mid-range). Owner and all staff are extremely friendly and obliging. "Breakfast Included" doesn't do justice to the spread they put on at your convenience in the morning. The proprietor, Kris, is lovely and a real character. The pool is perfect for cooling off: kids loved to splosh about in it; I loved reading on the sunloungers. Shade provided. Coffees etc available pretty much whenever you want. The only thing to bear in mind is that the "kitchenette" really is basic. Another time I'd bring my own j-cloth, t-towel and a small vegetable knife. Even then cooking much would stretch your ingenuity. Mind you, as it meant we justified eating in tavernas (choice within walking distance, GOOD choice within short driving distance), I'm not really complaining! Lovely bit of pebbly beach 2 mins walk away (you basically have to walk past a bamboo field); lovely views. I hope we get to go again! Perfect for a family or couple who wants a nice quiet but convenient location.

I have never been to Maleme before, but having been to Crete a number of times and staying at different places around the island, I can say that Kris is one of the top 5 friendliest Cretans I have ever met. It is worth staying here if only to experience the true meaning of filoxenia. You will be met with smiling faces and an invitation to immediately eat before checking in, especially around dinner. Excellent food, friendly people both staff and guests. The breakfasts are large, and you will not go hungry nor want for fruit. The rooms are excellent, we had a pull down screen for the balcony door and didn't need to use the aircon. There are several signs pointing you in the direction of the apartments, so you cannot get lost. Didn't get a chance to use the bikes or the pool, but they are in a good state. Happy to stay here again!

We have recently returned from a week in Crete staying at the Kris Apartments. These apartments are situated in the small resort of Maleme, which although in itself is very quiet, is only a few miles from Platanias, a lively resort with an amazing choice of restaurants. The Kris apartments are family owned and the family are very much in evidence. They are situated in very private gardens with a lovely swmming pool, together with childrens pool, and a good seating area and bar. The apartments themselves are overall very good. They are immaculately clean, with good quality furniture and bedding and very efficient air conditioning. Nothing is too much trouble, as when I pointed out that I had asked for an upstairs apartment with sea view and got a downstairs one, two days later we were moved to a much larger 2 bedroomed upstairs one that fulfilled that criteria. Unfortunately a few days later we were on the move again as the larger apartment was needed for more guests!! However, we only moved next door so that wasn't a problem. Every day breakfast was served on the terrace and was a banquet! An earlier review referred to this phenomenon and there is no doubt that you could have eaten for England! So, why haven't I given these lovely apartments 5 stars? The only reason is the self catering facilities. In only one of the three apartments was it possible to use both rings on the cooker and in the last one an additional ring had been provided as neither was working. All the fridges were very old with no working ice boxes and in a country where the temperature in the summer must touch 40 degrees, this has to be a big disappointment. Fortunately we managed to eat out all the time we were there, but if you had wanted to self cater I think it would have been very difficult. Having said all of that, we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend a visit. Maybe when Kris reads this he will upgrade the cooking facilities, I hope so. PS I have to also say the beds are very hard, but that's a personal preference.
