Aquila Porto Rethymno is a wonderful hotel. Every one of the staff are friendly. They all work hard. Most have worked at the hotel for many years. They all remembered us. We had breakfast and dinner which was lovely. You have the choice to eat meals inside or outside around the pool area. There is a barbecue once a week. Our room was kept spotless. The bed was very comfortable. We also had a great view. Also excellent air conditioning. And a nice TV. The beach is just opposite the hotel. This is kept clean and tidy. Also free WiFi on beach and the hotel. Finally the general manager keeps his eye on everything making sure everything is all OK.

This is a lovely hotel. Clean everywhere, from pools to bathrooms. Staff helpful, food is buffet but there is a first rate a la carte restaurant should you wish to pay. All food is so well prepared and presented that you'd believe it restaurant quality, not buffet. Drinks can be purchased from the bar but waiter service is available poolside, though a bit slow. Rooms are modern, well equiped and a reasonable size; beds firm but very comfortable, linen high quality though I found that most balconies, not all, are rather small. Also couldn't find any light near enough to table to see anything! Advise side or front sea view. Disabled access is very good throughout despite there being several layers to ground floor. The gentleman who appears to be the head porter is exceptional. I visited in early June and found most people elderly, as am I. Although there is a pool table and some other table games, I wouldn't recommend it for active school age children. Ideal spot for gentle walk to old town and harbour. Lots of taverners and shops immediately near as is the beach where the hotel has loungers available for guests.

Real mixed feelings about this place . Plus points : Hotel was immaculately clean, rooms spacious and well appointed. Food was good quality and plentiful although lunch was like a “mini dinner” with much of the same food on offer. Staff overall were friendly and very efficient. Plenty of sun beds on the beach with great drinks service from the staff as they had to cross back and forth from beach to bar and back. Minus points: 1. I can’t believe more people didn’t comment on the extremely busy and noisy main road- bloody mopeds, scooters and impatient drivers - if you chose to stay on the pool deck, no chance you could relax. 2. The housekeeping staff have to be the noisiest we’ve ever encountered- why do they feel the need to shout to each other from either end of the corridor ? 3. Despite being premium all inclusive ,you have to pay for a snack on the beach even though they are included if you have one elsewhere ? The waiting staff are bringing your drinks anyway - what not a snack? 4. You can’t bring an unfinished drink from the dining room to the patio area - why? Surely it’s the same drink….or is it ? The patio bar stuff tasted like cheap plonk. 5.Also, you can’t take a drink in a glass back to your room - they serve you them in cheap plastic glasses, strange one as there are Glasses in the rooms 🤷‍♂️ 6. There’s a reason why the pools were largely empty - they were extremely cold , just a couple of degrees would help , the sea was considerably less cold . Finish on a positive they say ? It’s only a short walk to the old town and a wide selection of places to visit, eat, shop and drink. ( just don’t try and cross the road 😬!)
