What the tour operators must know so ought to have told us: The water in the taps is salt water ( like the pool) Toilet paper cannot be flushed down the toilet...must be put in the bin. The snacks etc from the pool bar are very limited The pool is available from 10am to 7 pm. The hotel generally: Owners are lovely Breakfast is poor Alex the pool guy is really nice but plays loud music all day. His taste is mainly techno etc although we had the Beatles' White Album twice in one day. Pool drinks reasonably priced. Good stuff The room was large and had a drying rack and table outside. Plenty of storage and hanging space and (shocker!) hangers. Table and chairs inside. Air con/ heating worked very well ( once you realise it doesn't work at all unless all windows shut) Large fridge freezer and plenty of storage in the kitchenette Big pool with lots of good sunbeds Very comfy bed with good pillows. When we arrived it was cold, and at reception they gave us extra bedcovers. Scrupulously clean. Not so good stuff: Bed coverings were chaotic... Didn't actually fully cover the bed. The water in the taps / kitchen/ shower etc was salt water. You will not get soap to lather....No drinking water was supplied. The 'kitchenette' was a kettle, a single hot plate and a sink with no stopper. A tiny discloth and scouring sponger were supplied. Also a large pot and a frying pan. Cooking utensils ? One small serrated knife, which has clearly been used to stir green paint.... On day 6 sone washing up liquid was left. The cutlery was one knife, one fork and one spoon per person. Crockery and glasses the same. The TV during work at all ( due to a storm). Told it would be repaired eventually. The internet connection was truly dreadful. The best speed I got whilst there was 120kB/sec... THREE THOUSAND times slower than we get in the UK on our very worst days. Effectively unusable. There are many steps from gate ( left open every night but one, when it was locked) or reception to room...the outside ones are unlit, so put your phone's torch on until you get the laybif the land. There are no instructions for anything anywhere. The hotel is cheap and you get what you pay for...a real Curate's egg. We didn't expect a lot. PS we stay in 15-20 hotels every year and have done for many years. We judge relative to them.

“Lovely hotel”

This is a lovely, traditional Greek hotel. Staff are all very friendly especially the manager, Franchesco, who was very kind, helpful and knowledgeable about Santorini. This is a lovely, traditional Greek hotel. Staff are all very friendly especially the manager, Franchesco, who was very kind, helpful and knowledgeable about Santorini. Unfortunately the pool was closed when we were there but this was out of the hotels hands and they did there best to explain why and provided a list of other pools nearby we could use. We had one of the rooms with a kitchen and balcony which was lovely.

The Gardenia is situated perfectly, far away from the main strip to avoid the noise but close enough to take a very short walk in to. In the other direction 100m or so is the beach. The accommodation is clean and basic but perfectly adequate. Only downside which is picky is that when we arrived the bin in the room hadn’t been emptied and was full with pizza boxes & empty bottles of water. Don’t let this put you off though as it is really a little gem for the price.
