I love Alykanas Village Hotel, The Staff, the cleaners, the handyman, restaurant staff, everyone is so welcoming and helpful, be nice to them and they will be nice to you. I have been going there for 8 years and have already booked for next year. I am a wheelchair user and find everything very accessible, the rooms are a good size with plenty of room to turn, the shower can be slippy, but it’s a walk in shower, what do you expect, beds can be a little hard, ask for a topper. Stop complaining it’s Greece, not some posh hotel in France. Maybe I could have one small complaint, but this is my preference only, why oh why has the music in the snack bar have to be so loud, I would love to have a nice pizza, or Greek salad there of a lunchtime, looking at the sea and watching the world go by, but oh not not with that music, if you can call it music blasting in my ears, we did ask the nice young girl if it could be turned down, but was met with a big smile and shrug of the shoulder, hence we went elsewhere for lunch. Otherwise a fantastic place to stay, don’t listen to the negatives, try it out yourself, and be pleasantly surprised.

We were extremely fortunate to be given a free upgrade to a superior room so I cannot comment on standard rooms. We were in what seemed a fairly new block above the restaurant with a lovely sea view. Our room was extremely spacious and beautifully clean. The bathroom is a wet room which could do with a bigger drain as the water takes a while to flow away and leaves the floor very wet so the next person to use the bathroom will unavoidably get wet feet. Nevertheless the minor gripe did not detract from what was a lovely holiday. The breakfast choice is extremely wide. A person who cannot find something to eat there must be a very fussy eater. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and the grounds are beautifully maintained. The location is excellent for beach, shops and restaurants. All in all, we loved it and want to return.

Beautiful location, practically right on the beach, so you don’t have to walk far to swim in the sea. That was definitely one of the biggest advantages. The pools were also great, and the water was pleasantly warm, which was perfect for our kids. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives mostly end. The hotel management and service left a lot to be desired. The pools officially close at 7 p.m., yet people were often still swimming at 9 p.m. without anyone saying anything. So are the pools actually closed or not? The children’s splash park with the slides closes at 5 p.m., which is ridiculously early, especially during the hottest part of the day when many families are resting. The pool closest to the beach was constantly full of sand because guests didn’t shower before entering, and no one seemed to enforce the rules. The shallow section of the main pool, which is clearly intended for children, was often occupied by adults sitting in the water drinking beer, leaving very little space for kids. Again, the staff didn’t seem to care. Our room was spacious enough for a family of four, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the beds were very comfortable. However, housekeeping was extremely disappointing. We even found old dirty swim trunks under our bed when we arrived. During our 10-night stay, our room was cleaned only twice. Housekeeping came at completely random times—once at 10 a.m., another day around 3 p.m.—so we never knew when to expect them. Families with small children usually need the room in the afternoon for naps, yet that was exactly when they knocked on our door. We asked for a “Please clean our room” sign, used it, and our room still wasn’t cleaned. Nobody wants to spend several days in a room full of sand, used towels, and an overflowing trash bin. The small bathroom bin was already full by the second day. We were told rooms are cleaned every three days, but that wasn’t our experience. The food was decent, but definitely not what I would expect from a four-star resort. There wasn’t much variety, although everything we tried was perfectly edible. The desserts all tasted very similar, so we usually chose fruit instead. If you prefer a late breakfast, be aware that the staff starts clearing away the buffet around 9:40 a.m., even though breakfast officially ends at 10:00. We’ve never experienced this before, not even at other hotels in Greece. Be prepared for a digital detox. The Wi-Fi was extremely unreliable, and even our mobile data barely worked despite showing a strong 5G signal. The lobby was beautiful, and the staff serving breakfast and dinner were always friendly and polite. However, communication was often difficult because many staff members spoke very limited English. One positive surprise was how quiet the resort was in the evenings and at night, despite being marketed as a family resort. We still enjoyed our holiday overall because Zakynthos is beautiful, but unfortunately we wouldn’t choose this hotel again.

Would never rate this hotel as 4* , 2 /3 at best. We were in the new block where there are no lifts, also no hand rails on the various stair cases so anyone with impaired mobility (myself) really struggled. There is no drinking water in the rooms, so if you are a late arrival you already have a problem unless the hotel supermarket is open. In fact apart from soap dispensers nothing is provided at all. The showers are absolutely lethal, incredibly slippery, no grab rails for any type of support, and they always flood the bathroom - where there is no bath. Strongly recommend that you either bring or purchase a shower mat even for fully mobile folk. There is no support in the hotel either- ie help with suitcases, basically you have to fend for yourself whatever your problem/ concern may be. Although we met several returning guests we wouldn’t ever return here or recommend it to anyone else.
