We chose Tranquilseas for our first visit to Roatan and it was a great choice! The location outside of town, on-site diving, restaurant, and the fresh, comfortable rooms with AC is what drew us here. The property is gorgeous with so many palm trees and plenty of lush plant-life. The relaxed tropical vibe makes this place really special. We originally booked in July 2025 for a late January trip for 2026. Due to winter weather in the US and flight cancellations, we had to move our trip to April of 2026. Jan and the team were very helpful in helping us find a new week and took care of all the schedule concerns. In fact, Jan is a huge asset to Tranquilseas as he was able to patiently answer so many questions ahead of our visit, both concerning the room amenities and other island-related questions. The communication was excellent! We enjoyed our stay, despite a few quirky things (notes below) and would definitely consider another future stay. They have a good thing going here all around, and I feel blessed to have experienced it. ROOM - We booked the Scarlet Macaw room for the views and extra living area space – a fantastic choice! The room has so many positives, but there were a couple drawbacks to be noted for future guests. What we loved – the water station set-up, the extra living space and long countertop. The amazing patio space with chairs, swing and bench seat. Drying rack was very handy. Having a dorm-size mini refrigerator worked great for our own drinks and storing leftovers. The bed linens were soft. The separate toilet room was helpful. The AC worked like a champ, along with the ceiling fan! The electric blackout shades did a good job, although more curtains could be used on other windows, see below. Double sinks was an appreciated feature. The décor itself was very warm and inviting. We appreciated the lamps, which helped it feel like “home” in the room; overhead lighting was also adequately placed. Housekeeping was good and efficient, and if we needed replacement towels during the day, they were happy to help us and make sure all was good. We also wanted to see a few of the other rooms and one of the ladies was very helpful and made sure we were able to see them at an appropriate time when they were unoccupied. What could be improved – The water pressure was the biggest disappointment with the room. The sinks generally worked fine, but the shower head itself was the issue. The water pressure would be sufficient for 1-3 minutes, then nearly trickle down to nothing. (This was common between 7-9pm at night, but also noted on a lesser scale during the afternoon 1-3pm.) I shared a video with Jan and he had the maintenance team try to make adjustments, including replacing a filter. It might have helped a little bit, but the pressure in the upper rooms seems to be a real issue. Another guest in the next-door Dragon Fly room mentioned it to me as well. Just imagine being in a single-family home and every toilet, sink, water faucet, washing machine, dishwasher, and outdoor sprinkler systems all running and filling at the same time and that would give you an idea of how bad the pressure was during those moments. I’m not sure if the other rooms on lower levels of the main building, or the other side buildings experience this. But it would be a WONDERFUL improvement if the owner could look into improvements in that area. Maybe they could look for a higher output shower head? I know it’s an ecolodge, but I can assure you I likely used more water than I normally would have due to needing a much longer shower than necessary. One last note about the shower, you’ll need a towel on the floor or else water will flow out and into the room. It might be a nice future consideration to add a small ridge or lip to keep the water contained within the shower area. Additionally, each night between 2-4am all the water appears to be shut off. I’m not sure if it’s just the upper rooms of the main building, or the entire property. So, take note there was no running water during those times. For us this was mostly an issue when we got up in the night to use the toilet and then had no water to wash our hands. Additionally, there is a noticeable gurgling noise from the toilet that I could hear when the water was coming back on. Room darkening – the electric shades help a lot, but there are uncovered upper windows over the patio doors & above the sink area, a small window next to the bathroom and a window in the shower area itself. I’d suggest adding some curtains over the little window near the bathroom and also have a way to get more privacy on the window in the shower. DIVING – Best Dive Roatan was easy to work with. The dive master Sam is excellent. He has been doing this for at least a decade and it shows. He is very knowledgeable, takes care of customers, and truly loves what he does. The dive shop is on the lower level at Tranquilseas. There is a room to store the dive gear after rinsing. Sam takes care of the BC and regulator for you. Their dock and boat are conveniently right in front of the resort. The reef is a few hundred yards from shore in both directions. Depending on wind, dives might be close 3-10 minutes away or 30 minutes away to see different areas. Really enjoyed diving with Best Dive Roatan. The snorkeling was also fun. They made sure to select locations that worked both for the snorkelers (shallower depths) and divers (scuba depths) and the captains were well equipped to help us stay safe. They provided markers for our safety and were available to get us at a moment’s notice, all the while keeping an eye out for the divers. The captains Rudy and Daniel were great. We also appreciated Ruby in the office taking care of coordinating the details! SUNKEN FISH RESTAURANT - The onsite restaurant served up delicious meals all day long. Everything we tried was of high quality and prepared fresh. The convenience of an included breakfast and ability to charge things to the room for other meals made it easy to eat on-site. We tried many things from the full menu. The wait staff were friendly and helped set the relaxed vibe for a leisurely meal. Breakfast – our favorites were prosciutto benedict, avocado toast, oatmeal, cheeky toast, baleada and a nice fruit plate. There were several other dishes we enjoyed as well like the chilaquiles, omelet and shashuka. Will have to try the enchiladas next time! The homemade bread is amazing and they serve it with real butter and some amazing jam for some of the dishes. The orange juice was fresh. Most days I could request decaf coffee, but the last day they weren’t able to do it. Not sure if they ran out, of if there was a special way they had to prepare it differently that the waiter that morning may not have been aware of. Lunch – Coconut shrimp, crispy pork belly, and spring rolls were stand-outs, and the serving sizes were quite sufficient! Quesadillas, fish and chips and sunken fish sandwich were also good. Dinner – Make sure to prioritize the once-a-week Saturday BBQ event. The ribs and chicken were amazing and I’d imagine the other proteins would be as well. The roasted veggies were delicious. For other dinners, we had the burrata salad, lobster croquettes, lobster tortellini (note, it is a small serving), and spaghetti carbonara (rich!). I would order all those things again, maybe after trying a few other items on the list. Desserts – loved the cheesecake and the brownie POOL/DOCK areas – we enjoyed a couple afternoons at the pool and the dock was great for morning relaxing and watching sunset from the dock. The bugs really got us when using the padded circle seats on the lower level of the dock, so use your spray! (I pretty much sprayed anytime I left our room, I still had a lot of bites. I probably should have just used a deet based product) Other notes for the surrounding area… we took a 10-minute walk down the beach road toward Anthony’s key and circled back on the main road and did a small hike/walk in the Carambola Gardens. There is a small $15 entry fee, but the 20-minute hike to the top of a mountain provided nice views over the area and their gardens are nice. There is another small resort nearby and we found their restaurant was good when we needed a change of pace, but not as good as Sunken Fish! We found it fairly easy to walk up to the main road and flag a taxi to head into West End, which was only 5-6 minutes ride. We waited near the pizza restaurant lot and available taxis usually came by within 5 minutes. Take note, the rides may occasionally be shared.

“A Resort to Come back to”

Beautiful rooms with stunning views, exceptional service, delicious food, and a dock gazebo that provides perfect sunsets. This little resort is one to come back to over and over again.

The Tranquilseas is a small and charming hotel. The hotel is very well equipped (water dispenser in the room) and the quiet location in the countryside with the sea nearby is beautiful. The Tranquilseas is a small and charming hotel. The hotel is very well equipped (water dispenser in the room) and the quiet location in the countryside with the sea nearby is beautiful. Special thanks go to Jan, who takes great care of his guests. We are not divers, but the diving center made a good and professional impression. The food in the restaurant is generally good to very good, but the experience depends heavily on the service staff (not all of whom are equally motivated).

“Awesome Family Retreat”

One week family retreat in late January. Weather was challenging (rain and high winds), but we had a wonderful adventure, thanks in large measure to the attentive and very friendly staff at the Lodge. Excellent restaurant and facilities.
