We had not stayed at this hotel before but were pleasantly surprised by its garden setting and the arrangement of rooms around a central hub - reception, restaurant, pool complex etc. All scrupulously clean and tidy throughout. Excellent staff in reception and restaurant and bar - very welcoming and accommodating. Excellent food at breakfast and dinner - note that dinner choices are made at breakfast from a set menu. This worked well with added salad options each evening. The hotel is a little isolated in that local evening walks are not possible but the hotel does put on free shuttle buses to local amenities and also sells tickets to further afield. Evenings were generally very quiet with no entertainment (and none locally in walking distance) but that added to the relaxing charm of this hotel. We booked via Great Value Holidays and that include two day trips - one to Capri and one to Lacco Amena for a Lemonchello tasting (in a retail shop). Capri is worth the effort but be prepared to queue, queue, queue. Best and cheapest way up to Capri Central is via the Funicular Railway for about 3 Euros each way. Plenty of shops - several very high end boutiques. Treat yourself and visit The Capri Rooftop terrace for a refreshing drink and super snacks elegantly served with possibly the best view in Capri - hunt it out! Give Forio Town a visit and also Ischia Town or even Citara Beach.

The hotel is well situated with a free regular shuttle to the beach and Forio town. The walk along the road is about 400 metres until you take a right turn down to the beach and walk along a promenade right through to the town. At present there is some building work going on next to the hotel but this was not too intrusive. The rooms are comfortable but not that well sound proofed. The breakfast is plentiful - ham, cheese, boiled eggs, cereals, pastries, croissants, fruit juice and freshly made coffee. Omelettes are available at an extra cost. We were on a bed and breakfast deal but did eat at the hotel on the first night. Dinner was fine with good choices but we preferred to eat out in the town of an evening where there are plenty of good restaurants. The outdoor swimming pool and area is great. Plenty of sun loungers. There is an indoor swimming pool and a spa but we didn’t use them as we headed for the beach or travelled to other parts of the island. The staff were very helpful. You can buy bus tickets and get a host of information from reception. Bus stops are right outside the hotel entrance. All in all a good value hotel.

Visited as a group of 6 friends, as requested rooms were located next to each other numbers 175,176,177. Check in easy, friendly and efficient. Garden rooms are small, beds clean but mattresses very hard , insufficient plug sockets, staff did provide extra plug adaptors when asked but still had to unplug the fridge every time to boil the kettle. A small thing but irritating. Showers good, water hot and plentiful however leaky shower trays meant the bathroom floors flooded. Pools and communal areas clean, comfortable and well maintained. Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas around the pool. WiFi good throughout. Half board option not really recommended, breakfast was good but dinner disappointing. We only ate dinner on 1st two nights as no one enjoyed the food. The reception, bar and waiting staff at Agavi are excellent, the restaurant manager and his team are very welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate us. A delicious surprise lunch was laid out for us on our return from a trip out to St Angelo which was extremely welcome. Early picnic breakfast was provided for our day trip to Pompeii. Overall a lovely break but the rooms really need updating

Nice situation with large garden areas, about a 20 min walk to centre of Formio, but no footpath for some of the walk, so slightly hazardous! Spacious lounge, patio & bar area, drinks a bit overpriced. Large outdoor unheated pool plus smaller indoor heated pool. Rooms are single storey, bungalow style with small patio, thin walls with lots of transmitted noises from neighbours. Very firm mattresses & concrete like pillows, personally I didn’t sleep well as uncomfortable beds but those who like a hard bed will be ok. Small fridge & kettle, tea, coffee in room & good wardrobe space. Overall reasonable rooms with en-suite shower/ toilet. The food was the biggest let down, unfortunately we had pre-booked half board so ate there for 5 days. Breakfast was buffet style- fine if you love cake! But not many healthy choices. Dinner was pre ordered at breakfast- 4 courses, choice of 4 pasta & main courses. Large anti pasta buffet which is good- lots of grilled vegetables but same most nights. Pasta courses were hit & miss, soup was usually ok. The mains were poor- low quality ingredients & often unpleasant. Many of us & neighbouring guests braced ourselves each evening & often would laugh at how bad the food was! Most of the food was reused the next day in some form or another- agree with not wasting food, but was very predictable what was coming! Wine was a minimum of €22 a bottle for the cheapest & €4 for filtered water.

Hotel was ok, reception and bar teams were very attentive and helpful. Rooms are a little basic and we had no hot water in bathroom. However once reported this was fixed very quickly. We ate in the restaurant on our last night which unfortunately was not a good experience. As someone else has reported in their review, the appetizers appeared to be reheated from the event the night before. The starters and main courses were only just edible so I would not recommend the restaurant. Hotel definitely needs some TLC but I couldn’t fault the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
