Ischia: si mangia, si beve, si fischia! It’s my second time at the Hotel Terme Royal Palm Citara Bay… and I really have a great time ! Relax and enjoy! Great sea view from the room, surroundings and restaurant!!! Good swimming pools with hot spring water different degrees. Spa center with wide range of procedures. Beautiful areas with trees and flowers. Clean and cozy room. Professional staff at the reception. But the best is the restaurant!!! No doubts about breakfast, lunch and dinner! Exceptional service and very tasty food!!! And the special thank you to the best waiter I have ever met - Mr Landi. I know if I come back again to see him! Very professional and energetic person who makes a big difference !!! Complimenti and see you again !!! ;)

While it appears nice at first glance, it leaves a lot to be desired. Upon entry to our room, I didn’t do a deep look around… I just wanted to shower as we were really salty from a day at the thermal spa. After I woke up this morning and took a closer look 8 realized that it was really lacking for a 4* hotel. Bathroom cleanliness was lacking- especially whatever was on the handle of our bidet- that I’d rather not question. Decor is old and bed isn’t incredibly comfortable. Booking spa services were incredibly frustrating. I called more than 10 times and once they realized I didn’t speak Italian they hung up on me. Finally I got a WhatsApp number that you are supposed to message to book and it took almost an entire day for them to respond, only to not confirm what time we were scheduled for. When we showed up at the spa they had no idea what we were talking about. They still got us in for some of the services we wanted, but I was already frustrated at this point. The pedicure was one of the most bizarre pedicures I’ve ever had and probably one of the worst paint jobs I’ve had. The staff member doing the service was incredibly friendly, but the service was not anywhere near the standards I expected. I wanted a massage but felt incredibly uncomfortable when the masseuse asked me to undress as she was sitting there staring at me. I got so overwhelmed that I just cancelled the massage and left. The ambiance isn’t relaxing, half the time I could hear guys from the kitchen singing at the top of their lungs. There were a few positive. The view from the patio is stunning. I would sit out there all day. The staff in the bar were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We had live music on the patio of Saturday night and it was a great time.

On arrival hotel looked really nice. Then we got shown to our room. Access to door was tricky with narrow walkway and slightly overgrown hedge to one side. On arrival hotel looked really nice. Then we got shown to our room. Access to door was tricky with narrow walkway and slightly overgrown hedge to one side. Once in room our initial thoughts were ok this is average and seriously needs an upgrade. Upon further inspection the bathroom was filthy with water marks on all taps, shower etc. The shower door had marks all down them, especially the edges. Most of the furniture had some serious water damage at the bottom. The base of one drawer of bedside cabinet came right out when opening (this was rectified when reported). The balcony looked like it had not been swept and the plants seriously needed cutting back. We complained to hotel and was advised to go back to them next morning after check out time. Which we did but was then told they couldn’t do anything until the manager came in after 1pm. I got the impression that we were just being fobbed off. As soon as I said I had sent pictures to our holiday company they were straight on the phone to the manager. Within half an hour we were given the choice of 2 rooms. As we were B&B we wanted to get some food on our first night. However the procedures regarding the restaurant’s were not explained at all. One seemed to be for only certain people. We had to use the other one but where everyone else seemed to have a specific table we were shunted here there and everywhere every morning. The tea was lukewarm at best. This seemed to be because the waitress kept topping it up with cold water. I initially asked for hot water for our tea at our first breakfast and was given this but upon asking on subsequent mornings it was indicated that we had to use the urn. Our impression was that as we were not with a large group we were irrelevant. Got the feeling also that as we were not Italian or German we were not as important as other guests. We had to try and work out for ourselves where everything was as the instruction was non existent. Think the only staff member that made us feel welcome was the cleaner.
