“Peaceful place with beautiful view”

We stayed for 9 days in late September. Its not a B&B, there are 7 apartments over 2 floors. We stayed in the top leftmost (when looking out to sea) which I think had the best view. It also had a roof over the balcony so we could sit and watch the rain (it does rain!) When you arrive with luggage its best to get to Amalfi and catch the half-hourly SITA 5110 bus (there is a stand with Ravello written above it) Get off at the Ravello terminus (just before the tunnel) and walk back on yourself down ‘Via Della Republica’. It is easy to miss the right turn (see photo) onto ‘Via Cassanova’ because the "streets" in these little hillside villages are sometimes no more than alleyways with stairs. After climbing down the 56 steps you will see the gate (its lit but no sign!) into Ill Giardino Dei Limoni which is then another 69 steps down. The wooden front door has no sign but ring the bell and someone will come. First lets say that yes, it is 2 star and fairly basic in terms of equipment. There is no microwave or kettle and virtually no coat hangers. There is a toaster though and enough pots to make "the pasta" There is a cupboard full of biscuits and snacks and a fridge freezer with enough : milk bread butter. preserves, juice and yoghurt , cooked meats and cheese to last your entire stay. The bed is extremely comfortable (I had a memory foam topper that I didn’t unpack) The owner was amazing , He even opened up the garden fior us to sunbathe The large separate bathroom had a bath and separate shower cubicle with overhead and standard shower heads (very strong water pressure!) and plenty of space for toiletries; makeup etc and a hairdryer. You dont need to go up to Ravello to eat. There are restaurants on Via della repubblica (Sea view pizza) and an amazing bar set back on the bend in the road (with a kind of Grotto) You can walk down to the sea (ignore other reviews) you just rejoin ‘Via Cassanova’ and go down a lot of steps until you reach ‘Via Zia Marta’ (an actual road) . Then its left with a lot more steps down towards Minori (the Marmorata hotel is at the bottom) or right to merge onto Strada Statale (on the Ravello bus Route) which meets the Amalfi Drive coast road nearer to Atrani/Amalfi. You can get the bus either way (SITA 5220) to further up/down the coast. Minori and Atrani/Amalfi are walkable. I am an overweight 62 year old and I managed quite a lot of walking down steps. We minimised the "up steps" by taking the bus to Ravello and walking down. The taxis are extortionate (see photo of rates from Ravello to other towns), so even the comparatively rich Americans generally took the buses and the ferries. If you want to catch the ferry to Positano or Capri go from Minori as it won’t be as full. You buy ferry tickets at the booth on the harbour. You can also buy bus tickets online now (although the bus drivers don’t understand bar codes yet!) The ‘Unico Campania’ app is the easiest way to purchase the tickeets Finally (again ignore reviews) there is a lovely 15 seater community bus (See picture) that does a round trip up the hill to Ravello at about 5-15 past the hour from 7:05am to 7:05pm (excluding 1pm and 2pm). It’s an easier way to get to this outstanding small town. All bus times are very approximate as the buses are constantly held up trying to pass other vehicles on the winding roads and bends. It took 2 1/2 hours from Salerno to Ravello (29km!) In all, this apartment is an ideal, relatively inexpensive way to experience this beautiful, fascinating part of the world.

“Stairway to Heavenly View ”

Last minute weekend trip to Amalfi Coast so we took a chance on this spot even though we read about the many stairs. Be sure to use the address and not property name to locate this little gem when using apps like Waze. The host didn’t speak English but they did send a person to help with our bags. There are 125 steps down to reach your room. That brand 125 back up too. The room includes a kitchen with gas burners, fridge and small table inside. They stock the fridge with bread, butter, jelly, juice, water, a package of prosciutto and processed cheese slices. There are cookies and snack cakes too. This is important if you don’t want to walk back up 125 steps to go to the car at night to search for food. There were only a few spots to park so we were not giving up the spot we had either. We brought snacks and booze but they had no ice available. Bring it with you if you can. Once you go out to the balcony with that view, no ice ceases to matter. Just put drinks in freezer while you soak up the view and breathe. You can hear the church bells and watch the colors change at sunset. The bathroom includes tub and shower but the shower didn’t drain well. They have blow dryers and sunscreen but no shampoo. We chose to bring food back on our second night to eat in the balcony after a day on the coast. Then we learned they don’t accept debit/credit cards. We asked if we could pay in the am and asked where an ATM was. They were ok with that. There are no restaurants you can reach without walking up to the square. It’s a beautiful view at a very reasonable price if you can handle the stairs.

Good news: Stunning view from your balcony, you cannot beat it. The apartment is spacious with a full bathroom and toilet, fully equipped small kitchen, comfy bed. The owners are wonderful people, even though we had a little trouble with the language, we managed to communicate with them, and they couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast is included and there was enough food to feed the whole of Ravello. Such good value. It is also very quiet and away from vast amount of tourists. Bad news: If you don't do stairs or hills, don't stay here. There are over 100 steps down to the house, it is difficult to get your bags down and up the stairs. The town is about 2kms up and you can either catch the local shuttle, or walk. It takes about 40mins to walk. The shuttle bus roughly comes every hour. To get around the Amalfi coast without a car if very difficult. You can spend hours waiting for the local buses, taxis are very expensive ($50 to drive 5kms.). So, if you have a lot of time to spare waiting to see this spectacular place, then I highly recommend it, otherwise, if you are time poor, rent a car. Although, parking is very limited also.

We stayed here for 4 nights for a wedding. The apartment was nice, if simple, quiet and well stocked with food and great views. The owner was also friendly and helpful. However, we had a few issues - it was difficult to find as the address on Booking.com is wrong and we were given the wrong key to the gate on the first night and the number of steps really is outrageous and unpleasant, especially in the heat - if you take the steps to Ravello it's steady climbing up stairs for 15 minutes, and there is nowhere to go but Ravello. Equally, there is no way you would walk to the coast. Next time, I would stay nearer the centre (or further but flat!). Not suitable for older people or familiies.
