Hotel Mega Mare

There is much to recommend Hotel Mega Mare. The view from the property is breathtaking and our room had a lovely balcony (with the view), planted with mature olive trees. The property is planted with Jasmine and Oleander and the perfume is amazing. There is plenty of free parking but you really DO need your own transport, moped or car, as the hotel is located on the road between Vico Equense and Meta but is not walkable from either and you will need to travel for your evening meal. There are some lovely places to eat in Vico Equense and down on the coast in the Vico Equense marina , which is about 20 minutes drive from the hotel. The hotel is a family run, 3 star, traditional Italian hotel which IS the kind of property I try and find whenever I travel, usually preferring them to international branded chains and normally being able to rely on warm, Italian hospitality. The rooms are spacious and simply furnished with lovely local tiled floors and stunning views. Bring your own kettle etc. if you enjoy a hot drink in the room as is often the case in Italian hotels, beverage facilities are not provided, but there is a mini bar/fridge in the room which comes in handy for drinks as the bar closed at 3.30pm during our stay. Maybe that changes during "peak" season, (although the hotel was largely full during our stay so it seemed pretty peak), but it was not open in the evening during our stay. The hotel has a beautiful sun terrace and swimming pool, which was one of the reasons we booked the hotel so we could balance exploring the area with some relaxation, but they were both closed for the duration of our stay. We did ask why this was and when it would be opening but it remained closed for the week we were there. I do understand that, for the first few days, the weather was not great and there were high winds, but on the day we spent 7 hours visiting Pompeii in 25 degree heat, it really would have been lovely to enjoy a refreshing swim and a cool drink on the terrace when we returned to the hotel. We did raise the issue directly with the hotel and then through Expedia, who we booked with, during our stay, to give the hotel management an opportunity to respond to us but no one contacted us. The Mega Mare would have been a perfect place to stay if the pool and terrace had been open. As it was, we enjoyed our holiday very much but it wasn't the holiday we had planned and we were disappointed that the hotel management team did not want to discuss our points with us.
