We arrived at the Palace Hotel after dark in March, frazzled by the bizarre routing on twisting country lanes through which our GPS had put us. The hotel was an off-season oasis, and we were grateful wearily to enter its cavernous lobby -- where visitors from a French bus tour were lounging about -- and find a perky receptionist waiting to welcome us. The hotel, we discovered, has its own parking garage underneath, something one doesn't necessarily expect of properties of its vintage and classic design. We appreciated Cinzia's attentiveness (and her restaurant recommendations). Our room, with a balcony on the front side of the hotel that afforded a glimpse of Vieste's marina and sea, was spacious, and the shower was big enough for the two of us to shower together if we felt like it. The writing desk was large enough to accommodate our laptop and postcards and guidebooks to Puglia, all facilitated by high-speed internet. Breakfast was included in our room rate, with the kind of "Continental" spread one customarily finds in Italian hotels, but breakfast room attendant Michele (who said he had spent several years as a young man working in hospitality in Britain) made a point of asking these americani if they might want eggs, an offer on which my wife happily took him up. She appreciated the accommodation. Paying a room rate of €120 a night off-season, we were very satisfied with the Palace Hotel. It is located in the comparatively modern upper town rather than Vieste's medieval core -- which is all of just 300 meters (a 5-minute walk) away.

“For old style lovers”

Old style, classic hotel. They’re probably saving light on low season, since the lobby was almost dark. I think we were the only guests. They have a nice restaurant, but it was closed. Old style, classic hotel. They’re probably saving light on low season, since the lobby was almost dark. I think we were the only guests. They have a nice restaurant, but it was closed. The room was spacious; the drapped bed and curtains gave a romantic touch. The TV is small, so we had to lean over to read the subtitles. The hotel has its own garage in the basement.

“Great location but uninspiring hotel”

Stayed as part of an InnTravel walking holiday. Great location for both walking and restaurants & bars in Vieste. Hotel a little dated. Breakfasts basic. Staff, however, lovely and bed comfortable. Shower tight and fridge didn’t appear to work. Might be worth noting Vieste doesn’t come to life until late. We found i gioielli di famiglia in the old part of town … Anna and her family couldn’t be nicer and their food is excellent and substantial!

The hotel is well located very near the old town and marina. It has a nice lobby/reception area. The staff spoke limited English and there was no one available when we wanted to check out. The room was nicely decorated with a very comfortable bed, but we could not get the air conditioning to work so it was too hot. The breakfast was very poor. There was insufficient staff. The food was not replenished so very little available. The scrambled eggs were not kept warm and was very salty. Many of the pastries were underbaked and the bread was dry. That said the hotel was beautifully clean.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights as part of a Riviera tour of Puglia. It is a smallish, family-run hotel centrally situated in Vieste, close to the marina and beach and only a short climb to the old town and cathedral area. The hotel is somewhat dated in its appearance and amenities. Our twin bedded room was comfortable enough but on the small side and with no scenic view from the window ( which looked directly onto the balcony of a flat opposite across the narrow side lane, meaning for privacy reasons we could not really open the old net curtain). The air conditioning was difficult to regulate. The walk-in shower was good. Unlike the modern hotels, we stayed in Lecce and Matera, this one did not have tea/coffee-making facilities in the room which is a negative for us. We were not impressed with the meals we had in the hotel. The breakfasts had some variety but the cooked dishes were limited to fried eggs. There were some cold meats, pastries, fruit, and (plenty of) cakes. The coffee from the machine was not good. The dinners were for the most part also disappointing. On the plus side, we found that the staff, both in reception and the dining room, were efficient, friendly and helpful. In particular, they helped a great deal, when our Wizzair flight home was canceled (at 3.30 am) on the morning we were meant to depart Riviera managed to get us an extra night in the hotel and a flight back the next day on BA which reduced our inconvenience considerably as there were no hotel rooms available nearer the airport in Bari. The best thing about this hotel is the location, just a short walk to plenty of bars, restaurants, shops, markets, tourist sites, and the sea. If I was an independent traveler I would look for another town centre alternative.
