We stayed for a long weekend checking in on a Friday and leaving on the Monday morning. Everything about our stay was excellent, the hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly and professional. Our room on 7th floor gave us superb views across the bay with its crystal clear waters. Our room was well equipped and modern with a king sized bed. We ate breakfast each day which was really nice, something for all tastes on offer. The hotel is adjacent to Portomaso and its marina and fine restaurants, it’s also only a short walk into Paceville and the rest of St Julian’s where you can find an abundance of bars and restaurants. This was our first time in Malta and it won’t be the last, next time we visit we will be booking this hotel again.

The Cavalieri Art Hotel lacks art, cleanliness, customer service and ambience. We arrived early (as most do) so dropped our bags and ventured out! When we finally got into our room our telephone did not work so we had to physically take the very slow lift to reception. Despite letting the staff know (including Basil (front of house on day 2) no one thought to fix it. The reception area is full of art which was nice, but the rooms certainly lack character and no art was to be seen. We had broken tiles, a chipped sink and broken glass on the balcony doors so paying for a Marine view room certainly did not seem like an upgrade (although the view was lovely). The towels were tiny, the bathroom was dirty and the mini fridge did not even offer water. I had read reviews that the staff were rude and lacked manners, but tried to ignore it! Big mistake! OLGA is the worst supervisor I have ever encountered in my travels and is not fit to supervise a hotel. The staff seemed to lack knowledge and gave confusing and conflicting information. I should have known there was something wrong as every booking site did not have the correct contact details for the hotel and I ended up calling Malta just to arrange a large bed (which we did not get) and a birthday cake (which we did get). I would NOT recommend this hotel for a special occasion, but ok for a cheap break if you plan to spend a lot of time out of the hotel as it is in a great location.

Stayed in this hotel for a week to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, Our travel agent had notified on the booking we would like a marine or sea view room. Two emails from myself to confirm this to hotel, reply to say if there was a room available we could avail of it but they would certainly acknowledge our celebration! We had seen pictures of hotel rooms and expected a very nice bright comfortable room with a lovely view! On check in at 11.30 or so the girl on reception took details etc and gave us the room cards. Off we went to 2nd floor to our room- 295 and to our utter dismay our view was a row of apartments and the very top of masts of boars in marina! This room was at the front of hotel! This room had not been refurbished at all, looked just alright as a 2 star but definitely not 4 star! Down to reception I went to get moved to another room but was met by same girl on reception looking like she didn’t give a hoot , followed by a manager called Basil who had the same attitude saying the room had a marine view!! Insisting we be moved immediately was not going to happen despite saying it was a special occasion! Just told if someone checked out next morning they might consider a change of room! Well we spent the first night so annoyed and disappointed we couldn’t sleep! 7am the next morning I was at reception again to follow up the room situation! By this time we had discovered there were cracked tiles in bathroom-so dangerous-loose wardrobe doors and a hole where air con unit should have been!!! In the end they gave us another room but only for a 120e supplement!! No negotiation in this!! This room was grand with amazing views and huge balcony- 242! Still not refurbished, outdated curtains, one was damaged! Patio door hard to open so we put Vaseline on to free it up! Worked a treat! Small things to rectify for management!! The y did replace shower curtain as one in the room was black mould on it!!! Should have been done ages before !! The indoor pool was small but ok as only myself swimming! Didn’t realise changing room, showers and toilets were closed due to “refurbishing “ so had to change back into clothes at poolside in view of all outside at patio around outside pool!! Positive things were lots of hot water, great shower and good food! Spotless cleaning everywhere and most staff were lovely! The reception staff could do with a smile and look happy to see their customers! One or two were just ok! We had to remind them of our anniversary 3 days after the event !! Apologies were given and they left a lovely chocolate cake and bottle of wine left in our room along with a card! We expected just to enjoy our week away but it started so upsetting it was hard to relax completely!
