I came alone for a much needed getaway from my New York City lifestyle. Nahiely and Alex the owners treated me like family and made me feel completely at home for 4 days. If you are looking for a secret getaway 10 minutes from the Malecon and al Centro in PV, this is it. The rooms are clean and spacious, beautifully and authentically decorated. You can feel a personal touch and the love and care they have for their hotel and facilities. While you are staying there you will notice you are surrounded completely by mango trees, banana trees, and jackfruit trees because you are literally in the middle of a jungle paradise. The location is so beautiful and you are awoken to the most natural sounds of nature. They have an onsite massage therapist, and also Reiki Practitioners, Accupunturists. Every morning I had a perfect breakfast made by the Chef Luis, he is a sweetheart and gentlemen. Ask for the Chillaquilles, eggs, and frijoles ..that is his specialty! Joanna was an excellent masseuse and her hands are incredible. I feel blessed to have found this place, and I plan on coming back and bringing some girlfriends for a getaway. This is truly a magical place and the positive energy that radiates from this hotel comes from the fact that the owners truly love having their quests be there to rest and relax. It deserves to be on the top of the pages of best places to stay around PV. Did I mention it is also right next to Punta Negra?...which has the BLUEST waters on the coast of PV. Staying here means you will be close to the zona romantica and al centro and just far enough away (10 minutes) to enjoy the quiet of a true R&R vacation.

My husband and I just spent the weekend at this boutique hotel ( we live in PV and are familiar with El Nogalito area). When he told me about it, I expected just an OK weekend. I'm a beach person and couldn't have been more wrong!This little hideaway is about 10min. from Vallarta, on the River & walking distance to the Bay. The Hosts offer on-site activities but participation is at your discretion . Relaxation and good service are major goals of Staff and Hosts.They also help arrange any off-site travel you may wish.Rooms weren't "luxurious" but comfortable &clean with A/C and the hosts,staff and service were excellent. Rooms toward the restaurant area seemed to be a little noisier. Make a request and staff were on it immediately, even though they were fairly full. The "schedule" is on Mexican time so lunch is around 3pm and dinner 8:30ish. Massage Therapists are available on site....Raul and Joanna give the best and most thorough massages ever! We took advantage of the "couples" massage, a number of dips in the pool and hot tub, excellent food and drinks and a number of the little private lounging areas all over the grounds. We plan a return trip soon to this beautiful little "oasis" located so close to our Vallarta home.

The point of a vacation should be to relax, but sometimes you move just as fast on you trip as you do when you're back home. We love to get an early jump to the day and go, go, go. But sometimes, you need to dial it back down. When you've had your fill of laying on the beach or near the pool to relax, another great way to unwind is to visit Contacto Natural. It's a short jaunt from where we usually stay near Mismaloya. The grounds are small, yet simple. The highlight for us was their hamam, where we sat in silence for 30 minutes and sweat out all of the toxins from our trip. After that, a peaceful walk through their grounds and then a little lunch (which they provide), and you are right as rain. I recommend swinging by for a little detoxification the day before you jump on the plane. It's a great way to mentally prepare yourself for the long trip back home and back to the day to day rigor of normal life!

This boutique hotel is located in a lush jungle setting, in the village of "Nogalito," about 10 minutes by cab from Puerto Vallarta. It's a bit on the rustic side, but the immediate environment is what sells this place. There's a nearby beach, a river or two, and wild fruit. I think you have to either take the all-inclusive package, or else be resourceful, if you're going to be pleased with this place. The package includes food and drink. It costs close to $70 per day. You can just kick back, enjoy the hot tub, take a massage, get away from it all. This is a couples hotel. My wife and I wanted to spend our time in PV, so we learned how to get there by bus (less than a buck), or cab ($80 pesos or about $5.50 USD). Nogalito has two small stores, which can sell you drinks, snacks, fresh baked bread, and lunch meat, or whatever odds and ends you might need. The local folk are really friendly. A few quirks: Free wi-fi, but no cellular service, and no television. You have to live with the limited connectivity. The staff was amiable. This is a family run place and they try their best. If you require big city amenities, you should probably bite the bullet, pay a lot more than the $50 per night we were charged, and stay in a city hotel. Suggestion: Have the staff pick you up at the airport for $300 pesos ($20 USD). Make your own arrangements for the return, once you've learned to navigate, Suggestion: If your next stop is Guadalajara, take the first class bus. Air fares out of PV are often outrageous, even if you fly cut rate Volaris.
