My husband and I got a day pass to Secrets to celebrate his birthday. We were assigned a concierge named Joel, who made sure we got the best service all day. He handed us off to the best server at the buffet breakfast and told him we were celebrating a birthday. My husband loves eggs benedict, and even though the kitchen doesn't typically make it, the server arranged to have it made especially for my husband. We had a fun day eating and drinking and hanging out at the pools and beach. When it was nearly time to go, Joel brought a bottle of sparkling wine with a sparkler attached to our lounge chairs and sang Happy Birthday and took a picture of us. Then he arranged for us to have an extra hour on our day pass so we could stop at the sushi bar on the way out. The resort was beautiful and pristine, but it was Joel's attention and care that really made my husband feel special on his special day.

“Simply a great time”

We have come to Secrets 4 times over the last 6 years because the people here truly care about your experience being the best! The grounds are clean and maintained daily, the swell of the ocean can be heard all day, and the sunset is gorgeous. We are already planning our next trip back!

We had a wedding at Secrets scheduled for February 22nd, 2026. That day might ring a bell because that is the day that El Mencho was captured and killed by the Mexican Army, and you can imagine how that panned out. First off, leading up to the wedding (about a year of planning) the only real issue we encountered was with a staff member in charge of the "Wedding Block Booking". Paloma Bravo. She was a pain to get in touch with and of minimal assistance the whole time. We had to threaten moving to other locations before getting any information. I also learned down the road that many have had issue with the same person and that even much of the staff expected complications when this name would come up. I am not here to fuss but would be doing any future guests hosting a wedding injustice if I did not mention.... good luck with her. I requested others on several occasions, and my wife took over only to get just as annoyed. We are not the wedding party from hell, unless maybe staying up too late is the crime we are accused of. Now that being said shifting to the actual experience, which was a wild one, we had an exceptional experience. Actually, never heard from or met Paloma Bravo at all although most of our corrections involved moving the wedding block. Now, the town went through a tragedy so I'm not going to pretend to know what's going on with her, but I do know almost everyone else's issues that we encountered and truly connected with the community and my heart goes out to anyone affected by the cartel intervention and the repercussions of that. First few days were amazing. Couple hiccups getting in rooms, but of course the wedding block coordinator was nowhere to be found. We were there for a week. It's beautiful and fun, the staff was amazing. Nirvana in the Preferred Club became a confidant and friend. Jose did all he could do at all times to help us out. Nahim Cruz (photographer used with the wedding coordinator) was an absolute delight and such a kind soul, and Karla Cruz came through and helped to the best of her abilities, and all were more than fair when we literally got shut down by the cartel. The town being on lockdown hindered us from actually having the wedding on the 22nd, which was probably good because sad vibes, uncertainty, tire fire smell, and tension is not the best recipe for a loving ceremony. In the end, the vendors (whom were all outsourced outside the hotel) were not able to come. So, we had to throw our own wedding. The hotel graciously loaned us a Bose Stack Sound System, we picked flowers throughout the hotel, found a photographer who was stuck at the hotel due to the lockdown, and just threw our own wedding. The GM, sorry I wish I knew the name because she was amazing, helped us gather chairs and donated a champagne cart for the ceremony. It was a tense time, and we truly wanted to be a peaceful entity for the community, but we ended up (one day later) having a wonderful wedding that we had to put together in about 2 and half hours. It was amazing, but this is a review. The hotel handled the situation with kindness and grace. I felt fortunate to get to know them and be around them. Jose was compassionate and helped my bride and I have some moments that are truly special and a peace of mind we needed. I can't thank him properly enough in this rant. Nirvana was helpful and pointed me in all the right directions and that actually made it all happen. She was also kind and stern in an endearing way about our late-night noises from too many guests. It was the 90-person large ceremony, so it was a lot. It was impressive really and our departure revolved around hugs and heavy eyes. Karla Cruz is one of the wedding coordinators and she was so kind and amazing. When all came down to it, they were sad for us not being able to get the vendors in and we were hurting with the town of people we were growing to love. Ten out of ten in our duration... I know this contradicts my star thing, but I spent almost a year just running into a wall with Paloma and was looking forward to meeting her so we could find some common ground, but she helps ground there and never laid eyes on the lady. We were there 4 days before the cartel intervention by the way. While at the hotel, besides the disaster of rebooking rooms because of the lockdown (no one probably knows what to do in this scenario and of course we knew we wouldn't get help from paloma) so when we were needing to plan our own wedding and relax after, we were rebooking rooms. This single wedding block coordinator and us coordinating that is my only complaint. Beautiful town, great food, amazing atmosphere and even in the midst of a tragedy. It's easy as an American to see things and say, "oh that's sad that happened over there", but it really is important to feel right there and be able to feel what people are feeling and experiencing. And have Nahim be your wedding photographer. We only got him for the rehearsal dinner, but he's so good and such a fun, kind man. I feel fortunate to have been there at this exact time, and even in this scenario with a little bit of empathy and elbow grease it was a treasure to experience and made me a better person. Thanks to all that were involved. The staff made a huge impact. Might have to write a book to elaborate. Thanks!
