We stayed in June 2026 as a group of nine, spread across five rooms. The rooms were clean, and it was convenient to have a water station on our floor. Ice was available near the elevator one level down at the opposite end of the building. The app is good. The map in the app is useless. Ill include a better map in the photos. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was very good, and the bar service was excellent. The entertainment was a walk, so we only went to one. The pool water was clear, although there were quite a few bugs and even a few floating Band-Aids, which was disappointing. The wildlife is friendly. The one animal took a bun from a guests plate. The gift shop makes airport prices look like the dollar store. So bad. $37 for a med cost $3 OTC in the US. Sun screen is $45. Unfortunately, there were two issues that would keep me from returning. First, I had requested not to be placed on the third floor because of a sore knee, but I was assigned a room at the very end of the third-floor hallway. Meanwhile, the other four rooms in our group were on the second floor. There were elevators available, but they were located out of the way, making the walk difficult My other concern was the strong, pungent mold smell in the elevator, which was hard to ignore. After returning home, I developed a persistent hacking cough and congestion. I can't say whether the two were related, but the noticeable mold odor left me concerned about the property's maintenance and overall indoor air quality.

I would give Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya 4.5 stars if I could, but there’s a few things keeping it from 5 stars for us. Also, please note, after researching TONS of hotels in the area, and reading too many reviews, we went into our 7 night trip with a four year old knowing this was really a 4 star hotel by American standards (and 4 diamond by auto club). So if you’re looking for a real 5 star resort, this isn’t it (which is reflected in the more reasonable price), but if you go in with the expectations of a 4 star hotel, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. What was EXCELLENT: We loved how quick the ride was from the airport to the resort, the security around the complex, the newly remodeled two story gym (and aerial yoga classes!), the spa, the shows, the little mall, the different activities offered, and most of all, Star Camp. They really know what they’re doing with the kid’s camp- the space is incredible, they do outdoor and indoor activities, and the hours are fabulous. Also loved that we could track our son’s location via whatsapp. What NEEDS immediate improvement: 1. ROOM SERVICE. As others have mentioned, the room service food is truly awful and VERY limited. I don’t know why they don’t just deliver food from the buffet. We had a burger at the steakhouse and it was incredible. Both times we ordered a burger from room service, it was not edible. Think airplane food quality. Also, for those of us visiting from the west coast (the 3 hour time change meant we missed breakfast most days) it would be nice to see some brunch items on the room service menu (pancakes, breakfast burrito, oatmeal, yogurt parfait, etc). 2. Where is the guacamole? Who doesn’t want guacamole IN Mexico?! They kept serving something that resembled puréed avocado but didn’t quite taste like avocado. Only saw real guacamole at the guacamole making class around the pool. 3. The bed linens. The “blanket” on the bed is very, very thin. Someone else commented on this in another review and I thought they were being nit-picky, but no, it’s an issue. I know it’s hot outside, but a light duvet, or really anything else, would be better. The sheets are also very rough. Iberostar, please upgrade your bed linens to at least be in line with a 4 star resort. 4. GUARANTEE BED SELECTION. If I specifically book a room with a king bed, don’t give me a room with two double beds. Why even offer the selection of a king bed or two beds at the time of booking if the hotel cannot honor the booking? No other hotel does this- you get what you book. If the resort is oversold, that’s an internal issue Iberostar needs to take care of. Smaller areas that could be improved include extending breakfast hours to 11am, training the baristas to make coffee drinks (as other reviewers mentioned, if you want a fancy drink, like a flavored latte, it’s going to taste a little funky), adding more servers around the pool, and stopping the false advertising of “resort credits”. They’re not resort credits, they’re just coupons you can only use on a single item, service or activity that’s $100 or more. I used one on a spa treatment (saved $20), and left the other dozen or so unused. Iberostar needs to be advertising these as coupons, not credits. If you’re a family with elementary school aged children, this resort is great. A few tweaks and it could be exceptional.
