So happy our first time in Mexico did not disappoint us much (We spent 5 nights at this resort, just ended our trip earlier this week). Most parts went as expected as we prepared. Everyone at Mahekal made us feel very very welcoming (from security guards, many to make sure you are safe and not lost, to bell person, cooks and so on), they all greeted us with a smile. We did have welcome drinks and were checked into the room type we booked direct, there were 2 AC in the room, just the bathroom was too warm** and slippers were missing** water was also an issue but they did fix it momentarily. **NOTE: I hope they will get the loose toilet seat fixed, we did report and remind the front desk to get that checked but it seemed it was not possible? - Duvet was tucked securely by an actual fitted sheet in the middle layer which I love it a lot!! So that the duvet is not easily falling out from sheets. - You don't need tv there, it's very beautiful. No issue with Wifi. We were in # 8 Oceanfront King, balcony was larger than what it showed on the website, right next to La Ola resto/ hot tub (not heated..) There was wedding set up (for Friday evening, but you only would receive the notice on your arrival day), no noise disruption though. (Sat until 3am overnight) you can hear bumpy music but it's not really a big disruption, more or less like hearing ocean waves crashing outside. **NOTE: The display on AC actually created light disruption it was more of an issue for us, they light up the room. Average size ants near plants/ pool at La Ola resto, and first couple days while in bathroom/room. I did get ''some'' mosquitoes bites mostly from evening (probably from their restos even it was always breezy). - My partner is a foodie (decent home-cook/ meat eater!), we booked their all inclusive plan, it worked out well, food & drinks were amazing (Buffet theme nights worked out well with our schedule also!). - FYI more than 1 section for getting beach towels, no issue on this. Special THANKS to: Manuel!! Braian!! Housekeeper seemed to be different every day so cannot name one. There was minibar staff came to check on us around 10:00am on Saturday. **NOTE other points to improve: - Hotel common areas are not cheap and tacky, they do have good views in all areas, but rustic shower room felt dated.. - Book direct if you know for sure this is the place you will go, their cxl policy/ procedure is not making it as flexible as it should (They upgraded their website since sometimes last year and having Whatsapp support like many other local businesses but it is not responsive either. Still no toll free numbers). Something definitely needs to work on to meet 4* expectation if not 5* (Don't go by what Google lists them a 5* on the map).

We had a lovely time here! The room was spacious and the food and drinks were excellent. There are several beach access points and multiple pools. It was not difficult to find space. There is also interesting wildlife watching on the grounds with birds and various animals making their homes among the trees and gardens. One caution is that there is a nightclub to the North of the resort that is quite loud and goes very late on Friday. If we do make it back, we will definitely request a room on the south half of the resort. Overall, I would definitely stay here again.

“All inclusive has lots of extra fees”

I would love to give this place a 5 star as the staff here. Alexandro and Enrique were amazing. Pools and grounds too. Food is beyond amazing. But the fees. We booked all inclusive and when we got here were advised there is a resort fee and eco fee but on top a fee that tips its workers.$69 US per day total. Which is a bit extreme. we were not advised up front and it was double. Then. We checked out at noon and our flight was late. We were told we had our all inclusive bands for the day. But at 1 pm we’re told we have to pay for everything now. I’ve never stayed at an all inclusive and been not able to stay until your shuttle. Especially when you were told differently. They seem to have a lot of extra charges. Like surf and turf night and lobster night at the al a carte. It’s 100$US plus per person if you want it. I’m talking with concierge. Waiting for manager. But they are trying to give me the. You signed the form and it’s like this at all hotels. Which it’s not. The princess 5star allowed us to stay till4 pm when our shuttle came and eat and drink. So ya. Buyer beware.
