A friend and I booked a stay at CoCo Unlimited, in Tulum, México, via an Expedia package deal. We upgraded to an ocean view room and were not disappointed! Location was great. Very close to affordable dining options, good access to taxis and the local bus. The atmosphere of the property was charming. I loved the thatched roofs on the buildings, lighted boardwalks at night, charming room decor. Saltwater swimming pool has a waterfall and is lit at night. Plenty of available beach seating, with a number of shaded options for those who don’t want to fully bake in the sun. Rooms can be cleaned upon request and the property grounds were very clean. There was a lot of wind during our stay, which did bring some sargassum to to beach (uncharacteristic for this time of year), but the staff worked hard to clear it and it was pretty much removed by the second or third day of the trip. Amenities are basic, but suited what we were looking for. Despite being close to some night clubs and larger restaurants, CoCo Unlimited was not noisy at night. There were couples, singles, and families with kids at this property, and all mingled well. There were plenty of options on the included breakfast menu that you didn’t have to eat the same thing every morning. All breakfast is served with fresh juice of the day, hot coffee, and breakfast entree of choice. The only issue I experienced (which sadly really soured my view of this property) was at checkout. When you checkout, front desk staff has a housekeeper visit your room to account for the linens, check for damages to the room, and to make sure guests don’t leave anything behind. During the checkout process, we were informed that there were two stained linens that we would need to pay to replace…one white bath towel (that had purple stains from my hair color after I washed it) and one wash cloth that had tinted moisturizer marks on it (no heavy stains from mascara, lipstick, or eyeshadow). The price given for replacement was $15 USD for the washcloth and $40 USD for the bath towel!!!! There was a sign in the room noting that lost/unreturned beach towels (gray-colored) would incur a replacement fee of $40, but no mention of a replacement fee for bath towels if they were stained/too dirty. Other properties I’ve stayed at provide dark wash cloths for makeup removal, and this property should too, rather than charge guests exorbitantly. $55 USD to replace a towel and a washcloth in MX is highway robbery. Desk staff said it is because they have to send their laundry offsite for cleaning and those items would require special services, but I call BS. In the US, I could buy at least 4 high thread count towels for $40. If you stay at this property and use spray tan, wear makeup, or have temporary hair color, i recommend bringing your own linens and not using theirs…or asking to see the list of things they charge for, up front, to avoid unpleasant surprises at checkout. A stay at this property can be great value for the cost…unless you wind up unexpectedly paying for linens. 😤😤😤

“Chill location and beautiful beach”

Hotel is beautiful on nice grounds and great price. The breakfast is great. They did run out of hot water at nights. Hotel is beautiful on nice grounds and great price. The breakfast is great. They did run out of hot water at nights. We were ready to leave a 4 star review but upon checkout were charged $55 for a bath towel and a washcloth bc of a little bit of my friend’s hair dye (that completely washes out) was on them. This dye comes out in the wash and so, it was quite disappointing to be leaving a good stay with a steep up charge for what would seem quite normal towel use.

Cute place. Definitely needs some cleaning up. Outside beach chairs have mold on them. Room was nice but lots of ants. No TV, no refrigerator. They only provide one bath towel per guest. Cute place. Definitely needs some cleaning up. Outside beach chairs have mold on them. Room was nice but lots of ants. No TV, no refrigerator. They only provide one bath towel per guest. No hand towels or wash cloths. There’s a bar in the middle but it’s closed down. Breakfast was good, breakfast juice was terrible unless you like VERY chunky juice. Beds are very firm. Wouldn’t stay here again.
