If you're looking for holidays where silence "rings in your ears," you've come to the right place. Delicious breakfasts – fresh orange juice, salmon, a selection of hams, and wonderful fruit – were served at the poolside restaurant, where the water was 27°C in August and was swimming-friendly, thanks to its depth of up to 1.6 meters. Sunbeds were plentiful. At the rear of the resort is an even more intimate pool. The hotel grounds are spacious and resemble a well-maintained golf course, with beautiful wild birds roaming the grounds. Free parking is available in front of the hotel, with ample and sufficient spaces. Car rental prices at the hotel are similar to those in the market, although we used a rental company in Armacao de Pera (5 days for €100 + €75 insurance). Uber/Bolt transfers from the hotel to Armacao cost €6. The nearest restaurant is about 2 km away, but the hotel's Serenata offers à la carte options at similar prices. Small beer €3.00; Beirao €6.50. You can also choose from a buffet lunch and dinner from 6:30 PM for €30 per person. Delicious and worth the price. Beverages are extra, as is the local tax of €2 per day per person, and coffee capsules in the minibar for €1.50. Due to limited parking, it's better to take the hotel shuttle at 11:00 AM/1:30 PM or a taxi to the nearby beaches. However, we especially enjoyed Praia do Beliche, located about 60 km from the hotel (just above Sagres). The A22 motorway is currently toll-free both to Sagres and Faro. No transponder is required. Fuel at supermarkets is a few euro cents cheaper. Our greatest culinary discovery was 20km from Beliche Beach, in the middle of nowhere, with no mobile phone reception. There are old tenement buildings housing Sitio da Pedralva – a restaurant that looks like it has a Michelin star on the inside, and the cod in bread for 15 euros made us want to go back. It's the best Bacalhau we've ever had in Portugal, and it wasn't our first or second time.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Vale Del Rei Hotel for the wonderful 2 weeks we spent there. It lived up to every positive review here. I was surprised to read recent negative review - wondering if this is really the same place? It sounds like a mistake? For example, the hotel we were in had palm trees and plants at their entrance. Uber drivers commented on the beauty. Reception staff have to be specially mentioned as they were hugely helpful throughout the day, and nothing was too much trouble for them. We made use of the shuttle bus to Carvoeiro (driven by the versatile reception staff), available 3 times a day - 12 minute journey. If the mini bus was fully booked at the time we asked, the receptionist made an extra journey never complaining. The rooms are comfortable and maintained clean, the breakfasts wonderful, with lovely staff too, the pool lovely, surrounded by well-kept grounds. We enjoyed "mini golf" a couple of times, included also (just ask). We enjoyed Ferragudo old town, Silves (ancient capital of Algarve with castle), Lagos... Public transport was accessible from Carvoeiro and an alternative to taxis etc. For example, 11.25 am bus 107 from Carvoeiro. We disembarked before Portimao for a 25-minute walk to old town Ferragudo, cafés and the subsequent beaches. Then (thanks to Google Maps), local bus 110 to Carvoeiro for the evening (plenty and varied restaurants), and a later Uber return to the hotel. The famous "Seven Hanging Valleys Trail" is accessible and with stunning views over, e.g., the amazing Marinha beach. Also, the boat trip took us inside the caves along the coast, another high point. The September weather was perfect. All is a lovely memory now. Although the hotel is not in the midst of amenities, all the positives outweighed this. Well deserved 5 stars. Thank you..

“Good hotel, bad food in the restaurant.”

We were upgraded to a villa on arrival which was big enough for 6 people and very comfortable. The hotel itself is set in lovely grounds and I would rate it as a 4 star but the restaurant serving the evening meal left a lot to be desired. I wouldn't give the food served 1 star it was so poor. The hotel itself is set in lovely grounds and I would rate it as a 4 star but the restaurant serving the evening meal left a lot to be desired. I wouldn't give the food served 1 star it was so poor. Tasteless soup and dry main courses and no fresh vegetables or salads on offer. Deserts also were un imaginative. I wouldn't recommend going half board, it's not worth it. Breakfast was excellent though.There was a board of rules by the pool but nobody was there to enforce them making it unpleasant to use if you wanted to actually swim .
