Just returned from a 6 night stay on a half board basis. ♥️ Hand sanitiser everywhere in the hotel ♥️ Outside dining area ♥️ Hot food was covered ♥️ Pool area and sunbathing area spacious ♥️ Cleanliness throughout the hotel ♥️ Bedding & towels smelt fresh ♥️ Staff - friendly & courteous ♥️ Location Good having a fridge in the room and room was a good size. Special thanks to the lady who cleaned my room. Great job every time. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Felt more like a 4* than a 3*.

“Great hotel if you want a relaxing beach holiday.”

We just had a lovely stay here at Vasco da Gama. Yes, some areas are a little dated, but it is all very clean. Our room was a good size with lots of storage and a nice view from the balcony. The cleaning staff are a credit to the hotel, always busy and very cheerful, always saying hello as you pass them. Breakfast was great, lots of choice and the orange juice is great! Staff kept everything topped up and it was very busy. We only ate dinner in the hotel once, it wasn't great and very overpriced, it turned out to be the most expensive meal of our week. We ate much cheaper and better elsewhere. The facilities are really good; WiFi worked well, the pool area was lovely, there's a gym if you're into keeping fit on holiday, mini golf, tennis courts, lots of areas to sit and chill out inside and out. The beach is absolutely fantastic! Just a short walk down the boardwalk and you're there. I would say that apart from the beach and some nice places to eat, Monte Gordo doesn't have a lot to do, but we walked to Vila Real de San Antonio and caught the ferry to Ayemonte, which was a nice day out, and also got a taxi to Tavira for 15 euros, which was well worth a visit. All in all we had a lovely stay.

Nice hotel in a great location on the fantastic beach. Rooms are ok - nothing special. We had a "superior" room which had a larger entrance hall with a single bed in it pretending to be a sofa. Not really very superior!!! The restaurant, bar, and housekeeping staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The restaurant is 100% buffet and can be a bit of a bun fight. Sharp elbows would be helpful. Reception is in desperate need of refurbishment....very dated and dreary. The reception staff are not at all helpful nor are they very visible. Would we go again? Yes- because we know what to expect. We wouldn't bother with a superior room; we would be more canny about when to use the restaurant and we would avoid reception at all costs.

I went on a package with Jet2 from Bristol. But this is just a review of the hotel. Pros: Location very close to beach with direct access to the boardwalk. Building is a period piece, with all the original décor. If you like 70s style you won't be disappointed. Garden area - some good plants which are cared for. Traditional Portuguese food - I've eaten with Portuguese friends in other parts of the country and this is the real thing, no concessions. Staff - friendly and helpful, hard-working. Good value. Cons: Tired and dated, both public areas and room. Shabby 70s chic only goes so far' Salad buffet - repetitive. I've stayed in other hotels in the area and they managed far more variety. Cleanliness - the cleaners do a fantastic job, but they are up against 1970s tiled floors and walls. There's no way these can be kept properly clean. Bed - I have a back problem and a mattress placed on a solid surface isn't good for it. In other words, it was very hard.
