Not long got back from a wonderful 4 days away at this brilliant resort. Having read a few reviews about the place, i was a bit uncertain as to what to expect. We went for 4 days and had an amazing trip The courses were great, staff were extremely helpful and the accommodation was lovely. We are already looking at returning next year A couple of neagtives that can easily be resolved 1. the tee boxes were looking rather tired. A simple cut and moving the tee pegs occassionally would help 2. There were loads of pitch marks on the greens. This is purely down to lazy players with poor attitudes. I reguallly repaired 6-8 every green as did my friends.Im writing this in the hope that others might read my review and also do their bit Wonderful resort, thank you to all at Amendoeira for a memorable stay!!

I've just got back from 4 days at the resort and all in all I'd say I had a really enjoyable break and would gladly return but would do things differently having been there now. Probably best to break it down into sections so I don't miss anything and will start with the most important. Golf - We played The Faldo Course twice, The O'Connor Course once fully and then another 12 holes on our last day. We also went round The Academy Course a couple of times as well. Both courses were in superb condition with immaculate fairways and super fast greens. The Faldo Course is hilly and very tough. The O'Connor Course is flatter and a bit more open although has more water on it. Both courses were a challenge but very enjoyable. The buggies were decent with ice provided for the box and tees and pencils given. The practice facilities were very good although it's 7 euros for a basket of about 40/50 range balls which is on the steeper end, a theme to be repeated later. Overall I'd give the golf a solid 8 or 9 out of 10. Apartments - These were absolutely superb. Very modern and spacious with a nice outside terrace to soak up the sun. All amenities you could possibly want. There were 3 of us in our apartment so they were set up with a twin room and a double room and had 2 separate bathrooms. The beds were also comfy. Overall couldn't fault the apartments at all so would give 9 out of 10. Staff - Overall I thought the staff were really good. The staff in the clubhouse were generally efficient and friendly. There were no issues with any orders like were mentioned in other reviews either and service was prompt. The only slight hiccup was on our 3rd night when we came straight off the course as it was late and sat on the terrace for a beer and to order some food. We were brough some menus which we all looked through and made our decisions and ordered. The waiter then came back about 5 minutes later and said the day menu had finished and brought us the night menu so we all had to look through again and choose. No big issue but just slightly slack. The buggy masters were really nice and happy to chat about the course, how you'd played etc. Probably give 7 out 10 overall. The Clubhouse - Firstly The Clubhouse itself is really nice. There's a decent pro shop as you walk in and the reception is also situated straight in front of you. The bar area is really nice with a mixture of tables/chairs and sofas. There's also a big screen showing sport. Outside is a superb terrace overlooking the golf courses where you can have a nice cold beer after your round. Or before as well in my case. Breakfast is served downstairs and was really good with the usual hot buffet type options and a large range of continental items. There is also a restaurant area just off from the bar but we didn't eat in there as we ate out on the terrace both the night we stayed on site. Both the daytime and evening food price and quality were good and to be expected in this type of place. The bar prices were a bit on the steep side for abroad but not too bad in that type of setting with beers costing just over 6 euros each. And that brings me to the reason for the "But" in the title of the review. Baring in mind it is a site with a large volume of accommodation there is absolutely nowhere to buy essentials like milk, bread, water etc. If you haven't got a car you're looking at a taxi ride to the nearest supermarket or placing an Uber Eats order for some groceries. We did that and it was a bit of a farce in all honestly with half the goods not turning up. The other annoyance is that there is also nowhere to buy drinks to take out on the course at a normal price. You would normally expect a fridge in either the pro shop or the buggy hut but not here. You have to get your drinks from the bar and pay hotel bar prices. I'm talking over 6 euros for a CAN of beer, over 3 euros for a can of coke, same for a bottle of water etc. The same ridiculously high prices were also charged on the cart that went round the courses. Just for clarity I have absolutely no issue paying higher prices when justified. When in the bar it's basically a hotel bar and I've no issue being charged hotel bar prices but the prices for drinks on the course was way over the top and I feel they are taking advantage of the fact they have a captive audience. To summarise I had a great weekend and would 100% go back. In fact I'm possibly looking at going back later this year. It's a really great place. Just let down slightly by a couple of issues. The main one would be solved by stopping at the supermarket on the way next time and stocking up on drinks, which is what we'll do.

“A mixed bag of feelings about this place”

My wife and I went here for a three night golfing break. We booked via a specialist golf holiday company upon their recommendation. This review will focus on four areas, namely: Check-in & Accommodation Food Faldo Course Christy O'Connor course Check-in & Accommodation: The greeting at reception was pleasant and we were given a 2 bed apartment when we had booked a 1 bed apartment. However they told us that the apartment was not ready as we were a couple of hours early. They then said that if we paid 10 euros/hour we could access the apartment early???? It's a barefaced contradiction but we paid 20 Euros as we just wanted to settle in. The apartment was lovely. Well appointed, spacious and comfortable. The views out of the rear patio were spectacular. However it was a long, long way from the clubhouse where we were going to take our breakfasts and evening meals. We actually walked to the clubhouse and it took 25 minutes. Not a journey you want before breakfast and certainly not one you would take in the dark given the numerous underfoot obstacles en-route. The resort did offer a complimentary shuttle service which sounds great but in practice is rather "hit and miss." The drivers do their best but with a single shuttle in service at any one time you may wait a while. Not ideal at all. Food: We opted for half board thus taking breakfast and dinner in the clubhouse. The clubhouse is light and airy and the staff mostly friendly. I say mostly because they do have "Breakfast buffet police" admonishing anyone who dares to take a banana out with them. Be warned! The food was pretty mediocre to be honest. The dinner menu looks OK but it wasn't particularly good. The fish dishes were acceptable but the steak and pork dishes were overcooked. The breakfast was a mixed bag. There was decent fruit juice, a very good fresh fruit platter and a good selection of cold meats and cheeses and bread. However there wasn't the option of "eggs to order" and the chafing dishes of scrambled eggs, beans, bacon, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms were lukewarm and rather unappetising. Faldo course: Easy check-in and buggy collection. Good practice facilities with the exception of the chipping area that consisted of rough the length of which was not found anywhere on the course itself. Challenging course with tees to suit most golfers. The bunkers were a mess though after the heavy rain the area had experienced the previous week. It wasn't worth raking them as many were just mud baths. I thought they should have made them all GUR to prevent further damage and speed up the round. The greens were very soft and receptive but unfortunately pockmarked with unrepaired pitch marks. It really annoys me that people don't repair pitch marks but unfortunately at holiday golf courses it seems to be a major issue. Another issue with this course is the fact that the rounds are so slow. The group ahead were continually searching for balls and eventually we had to endure a five hour plus round. Not acceptable. For the record I played the same ball all the way round and had a decent score but I was getting decidedly annoyed during the last few holes in the fading light watching the group ahead scour the undergrowth for the elusive ball! Christy O'Connor course: A slightly easier course than the Faldo but with the same problems regarding bunkers and greens. It was a much faster round though and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was lucky enough to be paired with a lovely couple from Holland who were great company, even though I now have an expanded vocabulary of Dutch swear words! As a final comment the resort is in a lovely location and they have the infrastructure to make this an excellent facility. Unfortunately it's not quite working in so many areas of the operation. The management needs to review their policies and procedures and with some small changes could make this a superb golf resort.
