I stayed at the Hotel La Fontaine for a few nights, would generally agree with the other reviews, although think the hotel and staff deserve a few more stars. My room was great, very large with a lovely balcony, good wifi signal and breakfast was ok, not a huge choice, but they have an espresso maker, which is the important thing. Yes, it was empty, but that meant it was very quiet. Staff spoke good English and I found them to be nice and polite and happy to help. The location is quite remote and Esmoriz isn't a tourist hotspot, but I stayed there to explore the area and for this, it was perfect. 20 min walk to the train station (or €5 for a taxi) and your anywhere along the coast in no time. Esmoriz beach is another 15mins from the train station and it's quite nice. You can hire bikes from reception if you don't want to walk, good cycle paths. Overall, I would recommend this hotel, especially considering the price, value for money is outstanding.

“Friendly place”

Very calm, clean, friendly staff - good free internet. Free parking garage. Would be better if the coffee machine served better coffee for breakfast and if the TV sets were bigger :) but that's all I have to complain about.

Stayed for 2 nights because it was close to where I was working, so very practical from this point of view. There is evening food but fairly basic but we were glad of this on the night we arrived. Stayed for 2 nights because it was close to where I was working, so very practical from this point of view. There is evening food but fairly basic but we were glad of this on the night we arrived. Breakfast was OK but not brilliant. Room was nice and large with views to the back of the hotel. There is a large open air pool that was toil cold when we were there - must be lovely in the summer. Parking out side the hotel, Wi-Fi worked Ok and everything in the room was OK. The town is pretty quite, not a lot to see. Would stay again for the same purpose.

From the train station it's a 10/15 min walk. The hotel isn't situated in Esmoriz praia - I guess you can call it the old town of Esmoriz - but at a 25/30 min walk from the beach. Free bikes are available and there's a good bicycle path that leads straight to the beach. At night it's a quiet area. Two good restaurants are located near the hotel. Marisquiera Terra Mar serves excellent seafood and Restaurante Visconde has typical Portuguese cuisine (I had a great Bacalhau Visconde) and good pizza. Around the corner Pracca's caffé is a nice - drinks only ! - bar. The rooms are spacious and have a balcony. We felt every spring of our mattress, so a good night's rest was a problem (don't take room 117 !). The shower curtain was covered with mold. These two downsides aren't what one would expect from a modern hotel and rooms at €70 a night. The pool and breakfast are okay. Male staff speak decent English. Female staff stare at you like your from another planet when you ask them something in English.
