My wife and I stayed here for the last two nights of our 14 day stay in Portugal and it was our favorite accommodation. Not only is it in a great location on the edge of Sintra’s historic district, but the rooms are cleverly designed to make excellent use of limited space, and are charming, tastefully decorated, and comfortable. Communication with the hosts was easy and helpful - we took them up on an available transfer by private car to/from Lisbon for a reasonable price and are glad we did. Our driver (Fernando) is delightful and full of useful recommendations on what restaurants to visit and what food to eat. Ask for him! Lastly, the included breakfast far exceeded our expectations, with various fresh-cut fruit, hot croissants, honey and jams, pancakes, eggs, coffee and tea. Be aware, however, that if you start your day early, you may miss it, since it is only served from 9-11 AM.

“Wonderful place to stay in Sintra, don’t miss it!”

Wonderful boutique hotel in Sintra. The staff were extremely nice and helpful, immediately made us feel at home. We were very impressed with the room, beautifully designed and super quiet. The location is great, close enough to all the major attractions.

While Sintra for many is a one day quick trip from Lisbon to see the Pena Palace, we spent three nights in Sintra and never regretted the time. The town and area have lots to see and enjoy including some of the best meals we have experienced in Portugal. We continue to be impressed with the friendliness and courtesy of the Portuguese, even in such a busy tourist place as Sintra. As for the Aguamel Guesthouse here is my synopsis. First the positives: Good location, once you find it. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Nice European breakfast (although an uncomfortable breakfast seating arrangement) with fresh croissants and bread, fruit, cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt. Our room had a little balcony to sit on (shared with the next room) and enjoy the March sun. Good soundproofed windows, so little outside noise. A very clean with, in our case, a large room, dressing area and shower/toilet room. Nice linens and duvets and soaps. Coffee cake available during the day or for a late evening snack. They have a bottle of wine available in your room BUT at E 10.00. They are right across from one of the best tapas restaurants we experienced. Our room had a faux gas fireplace which offered lovely warmth when it got nippy in the evening. The negatives: They officially serve breakfast between 9:00 - 11:00 AM which makes things difficult if you're trying to get to Pena Palace early before the hordes of daytrippers. To be fair, the host did seem to realize this inconvenience for early risers and had bf ready 15 minutes earlier. Its an old building so if you're on the second floor you will hear every creak and thump from the floor above. They charge E 2.50 for bottled water in your room. As usual with older renos the lighting in the room was poor. While there was a dresser with hangers in the dressing area, surprisingly there were no hooks in the room - even for towels. All in all a nice place in a lovely town we very much enjoyed.
