Quinta Do Lordes is a hillside hotel located in an isolated outcropping on Maderira. Yet still only 15 mins from the airport (30 to Funchal). The first thing that strikes you on arrival is the quality of the building work everywhere. No expense was spared - down to beautifully ornate tap fittings and marble baths, solid wood abounds. I also enjoyed all the interior design choices. So a joyful space. What the area lacks in greenery it makes up for in local sea views and tranquillity. We rented a car to the north coast so didn't miss out on the amazing vegetation and tropical feel of Madeira. We were greeted with welcome drinks at reception, a bottle of champers in the room and also a plate of fruit on our last day. We also got a free drink at the n'tonic bar one night. So all the extra efforts were appreciated. Lordes restaurant was really lovely - we went twice although it's not cheap we didn't mind as it was very high quality. It's a shame the same can't be said for the breakfast buffet. Let's the place down I'm sure the owners would be furious if they tested it. Nothing - particularly the hot options - are made with love. The scrambled egg often green in the middle and no one touches it. I wonder why. Beans gloopy. Bacon fatty and cooked en masse so not crispy. Egg man rarely around. It didn't ruin our stay but I imagine someone expecting five star standards would be sorely disappointed. One other way this hotel can widen it's appeal: it's in a remote location yet most excursions start from within Funchal. Particularly the sporty ones. The hotel shuttle leaves at 10.30am and comes back at 5.30pm. Too late to get there for the start of an excursion. Too late to have a nice dinner in Funchal. A taxi from the hotel to Funchal was 50 euros one way! It was cheaper to rent a car for the whole day, which we did and parked It in Funchal unused all day to go mountain biking! If they want a wider crowd to frequent the hotel they should really consider running the shuttle twice more at 8am to funchal to get there before trips start and at 9.30pm back to the hotel so people can stay for dinner. With four shuttles in total I would have no qualms about returning to this lovely hotel as funchal and the rest of the island had been made very accessible to me and I wouldn't feel too isolated.

“Big and empty...”

We rented a car when we arrived in Madeira and drove to the Quinta for 2 nights stay. A lovely drink of sparkling wine welcomed us when we arrived which was lovely. We rented a car when we arrived in Madeira and drove to the Quinta for 2 nights stay. A lovely drink of sparkling wine welcomed us when we arrived which was lovely. Free parking and free Wifi and an included buffet breakfast. I was disappointed each morning that the chef making personalized omelets/ eggs etc didn't seem to get started until well after the restaurant opened. The buffet choices were average and nothing particularly interesting. We hiked right from our hotel room to the San Laurenco trail (approx 1 km to the trailhead uphill) which was very convenient. We also went Scuba diving at the Azul Diving Center at the marina which was convenient. The resort feels quite empty and like a ghost town- even in August! We also ate at the lighthouse restaurant (don't forget your long pants and closed toe shoes men! I saw many folks turned away). I saw my first cockroach in my room here- none of the staff seemed concerned by that. I recognize that this is a tropical climate, but I have stayed in many other tropical climates at 5 star resorts and never seen a cockroach before (lucky me!). It's a very quiet reasonable place to stay, but nothing over the top.

Very beautiful facility, rooms, swimming pools (max 23’C in the small one for kids, much less in bigger pools), nicely small buildings and the whole area. Unfortunately not too good service. Personnel nor skilled, helpful neither friendly. Very average food in the facility restaurant when considering five stars place. Exception was the burger at the beach bar :)

“Wonderful location!”

We were in Quinta do Lorde Resort in July 2018. The location is simply wonderful! The hotel room is very clean and big, but we were a little bit dissapointed with breakfast-we could go there till 10.30 am, but at 10.00 was already half empty...
