My usual indicator of quality in any hotel is whether I would unreservedly come to stay again. It's a high bar, and I'd say that the Savoy meets it - mainly for the kind and helpful approach towards guests from all the staff that we experienced. Firstly, some feedback on the slight negatives (of which there aren't many): beds in the suites are two singles pushed together. With the help of a topper, they're pretty comfortable, but still not ideal for cosleeping with a baby. The buffet cards lack information on allergens, which is an easy fix to make. There were two events - the Calheta car rally, and a running race which had a slight impact on our schedule and it would have been nice for the hotel to inform guests about them beforehand. We travelled as a family with a 6 month old baby and had an amazing time. The main road through Calheta backs onto tall cliffs with the hotel spread across the road with a bridge linking the two sides. We stayed in the suites across the road and appreciated the quiet (apart from the rally night, though it was fun to watch). Suites have a separate living room with a comfy sofa/sofa bed along with table, chairs and a small cooking area. The full size fridge was especially useful. The indoor pool is heated perfectly, and the outdoor pool was warm enough for our little one to swim in the late afternoon with a wetsuit. The hotel has its own parking (access by the green pingo doce sign), which is free for guests but needs to be validated by the front desk before exit. We really appreciated the ability to come and go easily, as Madeira is an incredible island to explore! As foodies, we've never booked an all inclusive as we love the ability to choose the restaurants to visit. Now with a baby, we wanted something simple and easy. Thankfully, the food was also pretty good! The buffet has many takes on meat, fish, vegetables and salads with Portuguese and Madeiran specialities. Of the few days we went to the buffet for dinner, the outdoor Madeiran BBQ was the best. The Savoy also has two restaurants - Onda Azul and Local beach bar. The all inclusive menu is limited, however you can purchase any item in a category by paying the differential in price between the cheapest all inclusive option and the item you want. At Local, this felt a little frustrating as the interesting starters were all 10+eur above the minimum. However, they were very good! Pizzas are fantastic, desserts are incredible and the vibe is great. We ate breakfast and dinner at Onda on multiple days and enjoyed it - the pumpkin salad and squid was a highlight. All the staff were amazing and super helpful - special shoutout to Christine and Ida at the front desk as we managed to arrange a dinner on arrival slight after the buffet had closed, and a late checkout which meant we could fully enjoy the holiday. We hope to be back next year!!
