We had an excellent stay at NEXT. It is perfectly situated for Funchal and surrounded by an excellent selection of restaurants. The hotel has a very good relaxing outdoor swimming pool by the sea edge. This was always clean, quiet and relaxing. The Cloud Bar on the roof is excellent with superb views of Funchal and the port. Unfortunately, the days we really wanted to use it (Monday & Tuesday) it was closed. Lovely music played at the bar which creates an excellent atmosphere. Food in the poolside restaurant is very good value, well presented and fantastic, friendly service. NEXT is a nice, modern choice, close to town.

“Lovely hotel with very good facilities.”

The roof top pool was exceptionally good for beginners as not deep and apparently no chlorine. I liked the gym.

We stayed for a week in April and were impressed by the quality of the rooms and the service we received from all staff. We booked a room with a sea view and were given a room on the second floor which had rather a limited view and with the sink and shower in the room itself, which was disappointing. However after speaking with FOH we were able to move to a room on the ninth floor, which gave us a fully separate bathroom and excellent view of the sea and of Funchal. The hotel itself is located within walking distance of the city with beautiful planting around it and a variety of restaurants within easy access. The quality of finish is of a very high standard throughout. The hotel has a range of bars and a poolside restaurant - the latter we used and enjoyed on a couple of occasions. The pool area was able to accommodate all guests without any difficulty and we were always able to find sunbeds etc. The pool and restaurant staff were always courteous and helpful and the quality of the food and drink on offer was excellent. Swimming in the sea was easily accessed and was one of the highlights of our stay. We liked the overall friendliness of the staff, the quality of the accommodation and the location and would definitely visit again. Like other guests, we found the low level lighting in the breakfast room a bit too low and felt that fresh juice and coffee would have been welcome, but these were only minor issues and didn't detract from the positive experience of our stay.

“Comfy beds but difficult to unpack properly”

A modern hotel which was clean with comfy beds but lacking in amenities in the rooms. There was only one drawer and no wardrobes, only some hanging space next to the bed which made it difficult to unpack. A modern hotel which was clean with comfy beds but lacking in amenities in the rooms. There was only one drawer and no wardrobes, only some hanging space next to the bed which made it difficult to unpack. There was a kettle and 2 cups but no tea or coffee, this had to be bought at reception. There was no body lotion in the bathroom and no tissues in the room. The breakfast buffet had a good choice every day but the coffee was awful as like every other hotel in Madeira that we have stayed in, they use coffee machines which don’t make proper coffee! There was no omelette station, something which other hotels have offered. There was an unfortunate smell of drains in the lobby coming in from the street. The restaurant by the pool was good for lunch. We appreciated the opportunity to swim in the sea even though the hotel was on the other side of the road. We would stay here again as we now know what to expect but in reality, there are so many other places to try.
