This is our take on our stay, we have been to the island before and stayed beachside, so this time we went the other side Hillside, nice hotel and very friendly staff just a shame about the very cold pool, the room was clean and spacious bed comfortable but pillows not so, we had a bath with shower attachment and plenty of hot water, dressing table had a tv on it instead of a mirror really. The room floors are laminate and can be a bit slippy especially if you stand on the mats wrong. Taxi don't bother use Tui transport what you save will help out on the bar bill. Evening meal on half board two choices meat or fish and if vegetarian a surprise, you had to book by 2pm each day, there was soup every night then your main and dessert, I think a little more effort could have been put into the starter something other than soup. Breakfast had reasonable choice, need to put a label on the coffee urn though as several guest thought it was hot water for making tea, tea bag and coffee ahhhh. There are some really good walks around the area some rather long so go prepared, there are also a few bars near by 5/10 mins walk away, Sticks bar and PXO snack bar also Terrios restaurant and bar well worth a visit for lunch or evening meal. If you want peace and quiet this is the place.

“Peaceful, off the beaten path”

Rooms are clean and spacious. Staff was very welcoming and helpful. The bed pillows could use an upgrade, but the beds themselves were very comfortable. The breakfast buffet had a good assortment of choices, dinner had very few choices and was a little pricey if you don't have the meal plan.

Think again!! A taxi transfer with TUI costs £51 return for a 2.4 km, 4 minute journey!! Think again!! A taxi transfer with TUI costs £51 return for a 2.4 km, 4 minute journey!! Quinta Do Serrado appears similar to a collection of Austrian Chalets and is located in the hills over looking the bay. It is tranquil with a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff are helpful, very friendly and the two cleaning ladies do a fantastic job! Our room 208 was spacious, over looked the pool and had a lovely view however the beds were a little too firm for us. The pool area and gardens are kept lovely but the balcony window boxes and ornamental pools could do with a little extra attention. The Restaurant and outdoor eating area are lovely and the service second to none. On Half Board there is a good selection buffet for Breakfast but Dinner is more unusual with very little choice. Your starter is soup of the day and if you want bread with it, you have to pay 4 euros! There is a choice of meat or fish for Dinner which you have to pre order in the mornings. This is followed by the dessert of the day. The food was reasonable and my garlic allergy was accommodated well. The drinks are very expensive for example a Gin & Tonic - E8.50, a bottle of Mateus Rose - E18 (E4 in the Supermarket) and a Cappocino E4. On the 4 occasions we came into contact with the owner, Mr Santos he never spoke to us or anyone else. Overall we had a good holiday!

“Good base for walking holidays”

This is a no frills hotel, good food, clean. The staff are so helpful, friendly and the advice on the local area is good.The room i had did have a sea view, but access to the sea bay is at least mile away and quite a walk down a fairly steep drive. This is a no frills hotel, good food, clean. The staff are so helpful, friendly and the advice on the local area is good.The room i had did have a sea view, but access to the sea bay is at least mile away and quite a walk down a fairly steep drive. Worth the walk though. Plenty of areas to walk and some stunning vistas. Although you are close to the airport, you don't actually notice the noise of the planes.The only draw back of this hotel is that there is no provision of tea or coffee making facilities in the room.

“Nice location if you want peace and quiet”

This hotel is in a very peaceful location but it is far away from the beach and centre. Our room was comfortable and spacious, although you could hear your neighbours easily. The staff at the hotel were superb. Very helpful in every way. We opted for half board and wished we hadn’t! This is were I think the hotel let us down The breakfasts were absolutely fine and filling and the lovely staff will cook you fried eggs to your liking. We did not use the hotel for lunch The evening set menu for half board only has soup for starters and the one pudding. By the third day I couldn’t stomach any more soup! The puddings are very sweet with lots of mousse type puddings The wine is very overpriced at the restaurant. I felt that the half board portions were very meagre especially when you’ve been walking all day. We did not use the pool as out most days. There is no real sun on the pool until late afternoon. The island offers brilliant walking. My husband and I managed to walk most of the island with lots of spectacular scenery. The hotel offers a shuttle bus to the beach. Once in the morning and once in the evening. We walked back twice from the beach but it is a long way and mostly up hill. The beach is amazing and the sea very warm to swim in. The water is crystal clear and the sand had very healing qualities. The hotel is actually on the market when we stayed which I felt had some impact on some of the aspects of the hotel There is no real lounge areas in the hotel. The bar terrace was too cold to sit on in the evening The restaurant is very cosy so tables were very close together. Sometimes fine other time very uncomfortable. The hotel lacked a holiday atmosphere. We could have done wth a engaging barman I never saw anyone other than the hotel residents eating at the hotel. Go to this hotel if you want a quiet very traditional holiday. A little too quiet for us
