We had a nearly two weeks stay in TNGH in Furnas. And ... it were the most amazing holidays we ever had! Quiet hotel is situated (well, at the bottom of the "working" volcano ...) in the botanical garden which is nearly 200 years old (it was seen by the old, old trees), with fabulous trees and flowers, excellently taken care of by gardeners. Also the history of the hotel and the architectural "art deco" design - nice, nice, nice! Well, having a possibility of using thermal water 24 hours a day was absolutely great. The room was big, with all needed equipment, perfectly clean, every day changed towels and bathrobe. Cleaning ladies were very nice and helpful. Every evening cookies - that was what we needed before going to bed! Two restaurants - sushi and TH. Well, sushi was totally fabulous, not many different courses ()especially gunkhan), but the product quality and service - fantastic; the restaurant - perfect, well designed and prepared menu, fantastic wines ... We just tried some of the dishes, but all were perfect - beef tartare, lamb, passion fruit souffle (at least *** Michelin stars). Gardener bar - super cocktails and burgers, with every evening live music ... (maybe more Portuguese rhythms ..?). What else ... :-) ...? Absolutely fantastic staff! From the moment we booked our stay, Terra Nostra Garden Hotel exceeded every expectation. Even before we arrived, Carolina arranged a private transfer from DoubleTree by Hilton. Our driver, António, welcomed us in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle with complimentary water and shared fascinating stories about São Miguel throughout the journey. It was the perfect start to our stay. Although our room was not yet ready, the reception team immediately gave us access to the magnificent Terra Nostra Park. Spending those first hours wandering through 12.5 hectares of botanical gardens filled with ponds, giant ferns, palm trees and exotic plants was unforgettable. One of the greatest privileges of staying at the hotel is exclusive access to the gardens and thermal pools after 4:30 p.m., once they close to the public. Experiencing peaceful evening walks through the gardens and relaxing in the warm thermal waters almost entirely by ourselves was magical and became one of the highlights of our stay. When we returned, our luggage had already been delivered to our room. We were welcomed with fresh fruit, a well-stocked minibar, a beautiful garden view, luxurious bathroom amenities, bathrobes, slippers and even a separate set of towels specifically for the thermal pools—a thoughtful detail that perfectly reflects the hotel’s attention to guests’ comfort. The culinary experience deserves special recognition. We first visited TN Sushi Restaurant, where the Wagyu dumplings and the Wagyu sushi topped with black truffle were simply outstanding. Breakfast was excellent every morning, with drinks included, fresh products and attentive service. For my husband’s birthday, the hotel created an experience we will never forget. Breakfast was beautifully served in our room exactly as requested and was absolutely delicious. A huge thank you to the chefs for making the morning so special. Our couples hot stone massage was another highlight. The two therapists provided one of the most relaxing massages we have ever experienced, paying great attention to detail and making us feel completely refreshed. Dinner at the restaurant was exceptional. Every course was beautifully presented and perfectly executed. The terrine, fish dishes and desserts were all memorable, combining traditional Azorean ingredients with refined techniques. Every bite showed genuine passion from the kitchen. Returning to our room each evening brought another lovely surprise: beautifully presented complimentary sweets. On my husband’s birthday, however, the surprise was unforgettable—a bottle of chilled champagne waiting for us beside the sofa. It was such an elegant and thoughtful gesture that perfectly captured the warmth and generosity of the entire team. The reception staff were always warm and welcoming, while the evening bar with live music, creative cocktails and delicious tapas created the perfect atmosphere to end each day. The biggest question I left with is: why is this hotel officially rated four stars? In terms of hospitality, attention to detail, dining, spa, atmosphere and genuine care for guests, this was one of the finest hotel experiences we have ever had. Compared with several five-star hotels we have visited, Terra Nostra Garden Hotel stands comfortably among the very best. Thank you to Carolina, António and the entire team for making my husband’s birthday so unforgettable. We will absolutely return as it’s worth its price!

This was the second phase of an e-bike tour of Sao Miguel for 3 nights with bed and breakfast organised by Sunvil. The hotel is quite large and very comfortable. It is attached to a botanical park with thermal lake which is open to the public during the day. After hours, hotel guests can go into the park and use the very large thermal pool. Grey towels and robes are provided as the thermal water stains! The staff were highly trained and very helpful. The concierges found an indoor space for us to charge our e-bikes. The food in the restaurant tended to be very rich so the reception staff were able to make a table reservation for us one night at a local restaurant. Furnas is a very busy inland tourist town so we were lucky to find a restaurant with availability.

We went to the TN restaurant at the Terra Nostra hotel when in San Miguel. We really enjoyed our meal and the setting is beautiful. My only complaint would be that the people at the reception desk and some in the restaurant were on the cold side. I'm not sure if it's because we weren't staying a… more

We went to the TN restaurant at the Terra Nostra hotel when in San Miguel. We really enjoyed our meal and the setting is beautiful. My only complaint would be that the people at the reception desk and some in the restaurant were on the cold side. I'm not sure if it's because we weren't staying at the hotel, but the service was not what we expected. When asking at reception if we could walk through the gardens before dinner, the response was almost rude. She said it was closed and we should have noted that if we're not staying at the hotel it closes at 4:30. I was not aware of that, but I think it could have been handled differently. The hotel is about 45 minutes from Ponta Delgado so we went early thinking we could spend time in the gardens. We ended up walking around the town which was nice, but I think allowing dinner guests to wander the property before dinner would be nice.
