My husband and I spent a few nights here on our honeymoon. Our room had a beautiful view of Pico! The kitchen was well-equipped. The wifi didn't work at all in our bedroom, but it was great in the living room! Our air conditioning was good as well. We were able to do laundry there for a very reasonable price (1 euro per load in the washing machine and then we hung everything to dry). There is also the option to get all of your clothes washed, dried, and pressed for a higher fee if you don't have time to do it yourself. The location might not be great if you want to avoid walking uphill on your way back from restaurants, but if that isn't a problem for you, then the location is quite good. It's in a quiet area that's still close enough to walk everywhere. I would definitely stay here again!

The comfortable and well equipmed self-catering apartments of Verdemar are situated in a quiet street in downtown Horta, a few streets behind the sea front. Since they are uphill from the harbour, all the apartments have at least one room with a fantastic view of Pico's volcano across the water. The decor and fittings are slightly faded, but everything works, the rooms are spotless and are cleaned daily and you are within a few minutes walk of everything of importance in downtown Horta. Most of the apartments have a single bedroom. They are widely used by locals travelling on extended stays for business between the islands as well as by tourists. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the prices reasonable.

“Nice and convenient place for a few days in Horta ”

We spent 4 nights at Verdemar. We had a duplex with sea view. The view of Pico is fantastic! The duplex is very spacious, comfortable and clean. Only the bathroom needs some renovation. Staff is very nice. Definitively recommend this place!

“Expensive apartment without airco and Wi-Fi”

N38°32,127' W28°37,762' During booking, it was unclear on the Internet the difference between the Verde Mar Apartamentos mobilados and Verde Mar hospedaria Alojamento Local. There was no clear answer by email so we were guided by the price. We tried to book directly, but ended doing our booking with the number one booking site on the Internet for €95 per night including breakfast. Very expensive for the Azores. We do not prefer booking with booking sites, because we know these sites ask substantial fees. At the end, property owners just increase their prices with these fees, to receive the same price themselves as for bookings through direct booking sites. Our apartment 2C on the second floor is part of the Hospedaraia Alojamento Local and there is no difference in layout with the apartementos. The manager promised that the website would be updated soon. Apartment 2C has an excellent view on the city and on the Pico Mountain. The apartment has a living room/kitchen, bathroom with bath & washing machine (expensive laundry service available) and a bedroom with a double bed. A second disused bedroom with twin beds is above the bathroom, reachable by folding staircase. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge, microwave, oven, coffeemaker and water cooker. Television is available. No Wi-Fi reception inside the apartment. Only available in outdoor areas. We ordered additional breakfast in our apartment: bread, orange juice, cheese, yoghurt, milk, apple juice, crackers, jam, tea and coffee. It was good. During our stay in August 2016, the sleeping quality was poor. Southern winds brought warm and humid air to Faial and kept the temperature at night above 23° and humidity above 90%. The apartment does not have air conditioning or a fan. Sleeping with open windows gave some relief but added an onslaught of mosquitos. The windows were not fitted with mosquito screens or the bed did not have a mosquito net. The sweaty warmth or the humming mosquitos kept us awake. On the positive site, the apartment offered us lots of space, it was cleaned very day and staff at the reception gave us useful advice. There were always very helpful. They linked us with Humberto, a great and helpful taxi driver. However, considering the high price of €95 per night and absent of necessary air conditioning and Wi-Fi reception in the apartment, we think it was not a good deal. Not recommended.
