Myself and my family have recently spent 10 nights at this hotel and here is my honest review. We went off season, so things may be different at peak times! Firstly I'd like to say I saw absolutely no bed bugs, ants or cockroaches. The hotel was very clean and well kept. - Check in Reception staff were helpful and polite. They all spoke fluent English which was a relief as our Spanish is very basic. They didn't explain much on check in. For example, I had to Google the opening times of the restaurant, but that was easily done. You receive a wristband when you check in for getting into your rooms, and the colour shows what board you are so staff know if you need charging for food/drinks or not. The security for the complex is good, they spoke to our taxi driver and then to us to confirm our booking. Only when they found us on the system were we allowed in. - Room We had a junior suite on the top floor and I'll say the rooms are extremely basic. Not what I was expecting for a 4* hotel unfortunately. The beds are really uncomfortable, I struggled quite a lot with sleeping because of it. The settee was also very hard and not great quality, also uncomfortable to try and sleep on. We had to remind the hotel staff that we needed a cot for our son and when it arrived we noticed that it was ripped. It wasn't replaced despite asking and so we had to push the ripped part up against a wall so that he didn't get his head stuck. There is a good sized TV, but we couldn't get it to work. Not sure if that was an extra charge, we didn't ask. We had packed our Amazon fire stick and managed to get it working which was great. The air con worked intermittently. But when it worked it was effective. - Food The food was as you'd expect really for a large hotel. But we didn't go expecting Michelin star food and so we weren't disappointed by it at all. We all ate well and didn't go hungry. The ice cream machine is great. It's Mr. Whippy type ice cream and it was delicious. - Cleaning As I said before, the hotel in general is very clean. There are always cleaners around and they do a great job at keeping the communal areas clean and tidy. We only had our room cleaned once during our stay. This was due to our son needing a nap at the time the cleaners tried to come in each day. The day they did clean it all looked great. - Amenities The room comes with things like a kettle, microwave, a few plates, cutlery etc, soap, body wash, towels, TV. Most of the extras you have to pay for like a safe for your room and the spa. The safe was €28.80/£24.99 for our 10 night stay. We didn't try the spa or the gym so can't comment on those. We discovered that you don't have to pay for the WiFi. You sign up and get a free 8 hours, and when it's done you can just go and sign back up again and get another 8 again! Rinse and repeat. A free shuttle bus comes to the hotel every 10 mins or so outside the main entrance and it's a great way to get down to the bus stops if you want to venture out. There's not much around so it's worth noting if you want to go out, you'd need to get a bus or a taxi. There's an arcade and a shop on site. The prices in the shop are inflated, but it's to be expected really as you're paying for the convenience I suppose! I never saw any staff in the arcade, but the shop staff were so friendly and helpful. They were also very kind to our children. - Pools The pool was very cold, but to be expected for the time of year. We booked via EasyJet and it does say clearly that the outdoor pool isn't heated. It's April, we expected it to be cold! If you are all inclusive you get to use the water park down the road for free. We only went once, but it was good for the kids. The big pirate ship part wasn't open, this could be as we went off season but not sure. There's a part where you need a pool floaty and have to rent them from reception, you can't use your own and it's around €10 per floaty each time you want to go. You can also rent towels from them, but we didn't look into that so I'm not sure of the price. We found out from other hotel guests that if you want to spend the day at the water park, you can order a picnic at reception the day before and take it with you. We didn't end up doing this as we found out too late. This is something I wish you were told at check in. - Animation Team The entertainment for the kids each night was good. There was a mini disco from 9-10pm where they sing and dance with the kids. The same songs every night pretty much, but the kids really enjoyed it! During the day they do one or two games around the pool but it wasn't very engaging. If you go in season I'm sure they will be doing much more though! - Group bookings Whilst we were there, the hotel had a few very large groups of older children staying, I believe they were sports groups with some adult chaperones. They were quite loud at night which isn't ideal for families with young children, or anyone who values a good night's sleep. If you were unfortunate enough to be at the restaurant at the same time as them you were struggling to get food as the queues were so long. It seemed like the kitchen couldn't keep up with the demand also, so there were empty sections a lot of the time when the groups were eating, meaning others missed out a lot. - Tips We travelled via taxi from the airport rather than the coach and I'm glad we did. We arrived way before the large coach group and were checked in almost straight away, no long wait. We pre ordered an Uber and it was £61 / €70, not ideal, but after travelling with two young kids we wanted to get there as quickly as possible. We also had to order a van rather than a car as we had a lot of luggage and a pram, so that made the price jump up. If possible, bring your own pool floats if you want to use them. They do sell them in the on site shop, but they're extortionate. Same with suncream. Overall, it's a nice hotel. Clean and well presented. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic and not the most comfortable unfortunately. I'd expect better for a 4* hotel. That being said, the kids had a really great holiday and that's what matters! Please note, the photos of the room that I have uploaded were taken just before we checked out. It looked very neat and clean when we checked in, I just forgot to take photos.

So this was a tale of extremes. Let's start on the good: - The people were great all around, very friendly and helpful. The only location where people were either good or very lousy was the front desk incredibly. - The beach club is really nice and big. A lot of things to do to spend the day with kids. - The Polynesia inside is quite nice with the decor and everything, and all the complex together with those massive buildings looks nice, it is well set up. - The selection at the buffet was wide. The bad: - The quality at the buffet was hit and miss, but more miss than hit. - The elevators are old and small considering that a lot of the audience will come with young kids, and trolleys. If you put a trolley in, you might fit 2 other people in them. And they are not fast elevators. - It felt like because it was not the high season months, like it was a bit of a ghost town and we were the lab rats whilst they got their act together. A couple of examples of this: 1) the mini golf, they had a lot of clubs and just 1 or 2 balls. Considering in the area there are countless golf courses, how can they not get second hand balls almost for free to use? 2) see the picture of the state of our room. That room, not so much because of the wall paper, but because of the shower dish, should not be rented out unless you are running at full capacity, which they were not. That is just a pity, ruins any image of the hotel. 3 cracks, and just one caulked in a very poor way. 3) all themed restaurants were closed, a lot of things closed, so it was a bit of a ghost town. - Cleaning. The picture showing the big crumbs. Those were there for 3 out 4 nights we were there, and we had in that period 2 days of cleaning, but somehow missed them to broom them out. The hotel has a greater potential than what it achieves. It does not provide a 4 star service, it provides a 3 star service, but it has installations to punch higher. As in the title, I'm hoping Meliá can turn it around as it is a place that feels it was once built and they are stretching it to the max to get every dime out of it until it falls apart.
