Visited La Grappa restaurant during our stay at the Hotel Playacanela. The menu was varied and good value for money. Buffet starter then a choice of hot starters, mains and sweet. The presentation of the food was excellent and the quality was good. We were well looked after by Lili and Tania. Perhaps some simpler choices for children would be welcome- the 4 cheese pizza was delicious but very strong for my grandchildren. Definitely worth a visit.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW:- POSITIVES: - Dog-friendly. - Breakfast: 8am - 10.30am (Bar Snacks- 12pm - 2pm) Lunch: 1:30pm - 3:30pm (Snack: 5pm - 7pm) Dinner: 8pm - 10.30pm - Plenty of food options in restaurant & seating area (hot & cold foods: salads, cheeses, pastries, paella, bolegnase, pasta, chicken, steak, white fish, chips, potatoes, crepes/pancakes, desserts, ice cream tubs, breads & more) & beer/sangria/orange juice/fizzy drinks on tap. - All drinks included (apart from cocktails for €3-3.50) - e.g. beer & sangria on tap, slushies, branded spirits, fizzy drinks. - Snacks included at the bar (e.g. Lays red crisps, potatas bravas, cheese, olives, bread). - When getting inclusive drinks & snacks at the bar, must wear all-inclusive wristband & hand over room key card (staff will then scan card & hand it back over) - anything you pay extra for, you pay straight away & given receipt. - Themed snacks every few days at the pool (e.g. pizza, sardines). - Italian restaurant (if have all-inclusive navy wristband & less than 7-day stay, it's €29 each. If more than 7-day stay, it's 40% off. If have light blue all-inclusive wristband, it's included). - Reserving sunloungers by the pool NOT allowed before 10am opening (although sometimes get away if arrive 10mins early) - still had no problem finding one. - Free pool towel included (if want a new one, it's €1). - 2 slides, a separate kids area & a jacuzzi (although jacuzzi was full of kids & always busy). - Entertainment throughout the day (pool dance, bingo etc) & evening entertainment at 10.15pm (more for the kids than adults, e.g. cool games, disco, magic). - Outdoor games included (e.g. small crazy golf, table tennis, pool). - AC will only stay turned on if balcony door is properly shut. - 2 little shops outside the hotel entrance & a small superstore 2mins walk down the road. - Can walk 5mins to a sandy beach from the pool gate (although no beach activities or umbrellas/sunloungers available). - Little train ride from the hotel to Isla Canela & Punta Del Moral & back (approx every hour) - can get off for a little look round the shops & have a drink at the bars. - Can request taxi at reception to Ayemonte city centre (approx €16 one-way - 15mins journey) - plenty of bars, restaurants, several squares, shops, ice cream places etc. NEGATIVES: - Entertainment all in Spanish. - Hotel in quite a remote area (not really any proper night life nearby or many outside activities). Overall, nice staff, get a lot included but definitely more for families with young kids.

it’s a very lovely hotel. very clean and staff are very friendly. room is clean the cleaners come every day and clean your room. the safe is free to use and you set your own code so your belonging can stay in there. do note if you’re using the AC in your room make sure the patio door is shut proper… more

it’s a very lovely hotel. very clean and staff are very friendly. room is clean the cleaners come every day and clean your room. the safe is free to use and you set your own code so your belonging can stay in there. do note if you’re using the AC in your room make sure the patio door is shut properly otherwise it automatically switches off (we learnt this after calling the caretaker to come help fix it 😭🤣) you get a good variety of drinks in the all inclusive. you get lays crisp salted and cheetos football ones for free. other crisps on display you pay for. there’s sangria and amstel on tap and then you’re usual sprits. cocktails you pay a supplement charge it’s around 3-3.50 euros but we were told by other guests you can get around this with some cocktails but ordering it all seperate so it’s included in your all inclusive and mix it your self. as expected drinks can be very strong our bartender gave us half a cup of spirit and minimal mixer so if you don’t like it strong you have to ensure you’re clear and firm. there’s a italian restaurant available which you have to pay for it’s 29 euros each unless you have a light blue wrist band it’s included in your package or if you have a dark blue one and staying over a week you get 40% off. food has a wide variety during all times. there’s food from 08.00 until 22.30. free pots of ice cream during these times too. it’s not clear on the signs but there’s snacks from bar snacks from 12.00-14.00. evening snacks from 17.00-19.00. sometimes food can be cold at the buffet but they do cook things fresh as you go like the fries, pizza, meats and fish. there’s always freshly made crepes every lunch time and sometimes at dinner. also there’s omelette station at breakfast and create your own pasta (tomato and cheese sauce then two types of pasta. same every night). always seafood paella out but most nights foods has variety. lots of fruit, salad, breads etc every night but in terms of fruit it’s always melon, pineapple, watermelon, apples, orange and bananas. entertainment for adults is 10.15 every night but it is always in spanish so it’s hard to get involved due to the language barrier but it is fun to watch the games they do with the spanish guests etc. pool area is always clean and it has slides and splash zone for kids. pool opens from 10am and people aren’t allowed to reserve sun beds which is nice but some guests so jump the barrier around 9.30 and start sitting on them. due to coming in june as a group of 5 we never struggled to get a sun bed but may differ later in the year. beautiful hotel but there’s nothing in the area. supermarket minute walk away. around 10/15mins walk there’s a few bars/food places and souvenir shops. there’s a train ride that is 4 euros and takes you to a different beach from the hotel and to the local shops. ayamonte is 15mins taxi. was 16 euros each taxi. taxis only hold 4 peoples so we got two. hotel staff call taxis for you and when you arrive in ayamonte there’s a taxi rank but make sure you get a white taxi there are for spain. black taxis are for portugal. you’ll need the white taxis to get back to the hotel. ayamonte has lots of shops, lots of food places and souvenir places. reasonably priced. most food places opened at 19.30 there’s a local beach 2 min walk from hotel nice and clean beach has a wheelchair ramp to access the beach which is good. there’s not any umbrella or loungers so you’d have to bring your own. overall it’s a nice hotel but for me it’s somewhere i’d only come to once. it a perfect for those who just want a relaxing only holiday as everything is on site but if you want to explore there’s nothing in the area not shops and food places. only excursions available is boat rides. but as a whole i do recommend it

We had a short four day break here in June and had booked all inclusive. I agree the info given is vague about what is included so could be clearer in terms of different tiers of AI. Other than this however, we found our basic AI sufficient and enjoyed Cava at breakfast along with a range of spirits, wine soft drinks and beer at other times. We found food in the restaurant to be varied and adequate ( people need to remember you get what you pay for) and this isn’t a 5 star hotel. Hotel grounds/ pool area and location on the beach is beautiful! Our room was on the second floor and spacious , meeting all our needs and air con worked well which was needed! The main negative for us was the pool bar. Very slow service and several times, (once we actually gave our order for drinks) the bar staff then spent time clearing or stacking trays whilst you were left standing waiting for them to pour drinks!! Very frustrating and appeared almost rude to us. This aside, several bar staff were very good (David in particular and sorry don’t have other names). We ate out at the marina most nights which is only 8 to 10 minute walk and perfect for a spot of people watching or to look at the yachts etc . Overall I would return to this hotel.

Constant frustration at the lack of communication of hotel policies and reviews. One person says one thing someone else tells you something else. Have to work out for yourself where things are. Not everything is all inclusive unless you have the upper tier. Wasn’t made aware of this on booking. Stand at bar for ages waiting to be served while they serve whoever they want in any order they want. Supposed to be stress free holiday yet have constant annoyances and frustrations. Won’t return. A shame as it has so much potential
