I had a good stay and would come back again (stayed 15 - 19 July 2026) - I found the Ohtel Campo de Gibraltar is attempting to address lots of issues people have highlighted in previous trips here. Many have highlighted there has been construction work at the hotel. I suspect that this is paused for the summer and the fruits of this work are starting to take shape. My suspicion is that half of the hotel has modernised rooms judging by the decor in the corridors and I think others have said that work is to continue into late in the year. We had a peaceful, quiet stay. The rooms are numbered with three digits, the first digit indicating the floor. those rooms roughly x35 - x50 numbered are modernised. 450 was at the end of the corridor, so we heard no noise from other guests. We received a modernised room - I would say we were one of the first as the instructions for the first use of the safe from factory settings were still inside. The decor is tasteful and well designed. The black out curtains work superbly - really dark in the room in the mornings. The bed was comfortable and had plenty of lights. It would be useful though to have USB A or C charging slot on the sockets. Another issue that other users have written about are the two elevators. There are definitely two others in the hotel - I think they are still being brought into service as sometimes they were working and sometimes not - or are they designed as service lifts for staff only? When you walk into them, you’ll know they are new. Perhaps management could respond and tell us if these lifts will be properly commissioned for public use. Television has a good range of channels - there are certainly around 80 tv channels on the set. UK tv is available - Channel 5, BBC 1, 2, 3/CBBC, ITV 1, 2, Ch 4. There was a Film Four but I have listed. The only small thing was it would have been good to have had BBC World News or BBC News or Sky News. Gibraltan tv (GBC) is also available, an English channel, further down the preset numbers. Breakfast was always good. Open 7.30 - 10.30. As long as we entered the restaurant before the 10.30am cut off, food was be there in plentiful supply - including the freshly made omelette / fried eggs and pancakes and fresh orange juice. At 10.30, everything is cleared away. I did the Gibraltar parkrun on the Saturday, walking back to the hotel and was back at 10.24 and able to get any food on my return. The menu made some little changes each day which was good to give variety. The food was good, we enjoyed it. I understand the comments about it being bit like canteen - large plants in the room, or the odd false moveable wall, or some drapes on the walls where there are no windows to absorb the sound would help sort this. Something to break up the sea of tables would be good. The seating and tables themselves were comfortable though. There was entertainment around the pool on Friday and Saturday night. However, with the La Velada fiesta on in town, there was much more to see outside. Another two issues to be aware of - the squirty mechanism for cosmetics for shampoo etc can sometimes not work. Two senior housemaids helped sort them. The other affects room 450 - there is a load clicking sound throughout the night. I think it has something to do with the sensor for the mirror light in the bathroom. You could hear clicks when at the toilet- the light could go off after 10 - 15 seconds if there is not enough motion - this included when brushing teeth or shaving there was not enough motion to keep the mirror light on. I could not get to the bottom of the clicking - 449 and 451’s bathroom adjoin the room and I am not sure if the clicking was from them. Both us were awaken by the sound during the night. The Gibraltar border is an easy 10 minute walk, 5-7 minutes if at pace. La Linea is worth a wander round - despite its shady reputation, we felt very safe and felt we saw the authentic Spain there. There was a tourist train which we rode on - everyone we passed waved, young and old. We saw a Spanish music group going round the restaurants singing. Part of the trip coincided with the local festival / fiesta - La Velada - the floats and sweets and party atmosphere with families congregated around tables watching the floats was a sight to see. The festival lasts a week each year and has a funfair - well worth coming when it is on. There is singing and dancing events as well as part of the fiesta. I suspect construction work is ongoing - we had a drain in our patio area with no covering. The furniture for the patio was new - one chair still had a plastic tab on it. I would recommend getting slightly higher quality furniture to help improve the patios - whilst it is comfortable, it is made of plastic. Another small thing that would help the hotel is when painting takes place, use masking tape to get straight edges - in the patio and around the new lifts, the edges were painted by hand and not always by a steady hand. It would help improve the feel of the hotel and give it a better rating. The paint often looked as if it had been splashed onto walls with not much care or attention. The new bathrooms have a walk in shower. Ours did have water that tended to leak out at the end of the glass panel when using the shower - the base units maybe need to have a very slight tilt when being installed to avoid this. Toiletries provided included a comb and tissues. The hotel is close to the Bus Station, if like us you use that method to get there. Around €16 Euro for a single from Malaga Airport. I am nit picking but we enjoyed the stay and would certainly come back to the hotel. Hopefully by highlighting the snags we found, when the second half of the hotel is come to be built, the issues can be noted by the tradesmen. Paintwork, faulty sensors, squirt mechanisms on toiletries and drain covers are all issues that can easily be fixed. Overall the hotel is doing a good job and seems to be going out of its way to fix major issues such as number of lifts. [Anyone using the hotel for parkrun - if walking the whole way, leave hotel at 7.55. If you leave earlier you might catch the x5/10 bus on the Gibraltan side of the border (no check at border as Gib part of Schengen zone) which goes at 08.00 - £1.80, cash only.]
