We had a lovely holiday at The Roquetas de mar hotel and spa in Almería. The hotel reception area was clean and the staff extremely welcoming. We were checked in quickly and given two room key cards. The room itself was lovely. We had paid for a double room. We were extremely impressed that we could see the pool and sea. We were on the fourth floor so the view was good. The bed was comfortable with two pillows each. There was a fridge and the soft drinks and water were re-stocked daily. The bathroom was a good size with a shower in the bath. Our room was cleaned daily and towels changed daily. We stayed on a all inclusive basis. The food was good but not what you would expect for a five star hotel. The drinks were good. The hotel is in a fantastic location with shops and bars nearby. The swimming pool is lovely especially with the added bonus of a lazy river. The hotel is lovely and all the staff were pleasant and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Me and my partner stayed at Protur Roauetas for 10 nights. Check in experience was friendly, we arrived early and our room wasn’t ready, but by the time we grabbed a drink and lunch we were able to check in (at 2pm so an hour early). The staff at this hotel are brilliant and our bags were taken to our room for us. My partner had emailed asking for a sea/pool view room on a high floor which we were not guaranteed by email but this is what we got - please see pics attached. Room was spotless and plenty big for 2 people. Minibar is a great touch and got topped up daily. My partner one day asked for more water and the man topping up happily gave us this. The pool area is lovely - lazy river was our favourite. It can get busy and people do reserve sunbeds early (signs say not before 8am but everyone ignores and it is not enforced). You won’t get a poolside bed if you don’t reserve early. However there are plenty of beds - most days we didn’t go down until 10/11 and were able to get one. Tip if you want a quiet area - there is a terrace upstairs with around 25 sunbeds on and lots of umbrellas - these are not busy and very peaceful! The only let down of this hotel was the food. Breakfast is fine. Lunch at the pool bar is also fine - handy not having to get dressed and fresh chicken/ paella which is yummy. Dinner however is disappointing. The buffet is chaotic - children running around everywhere not being watched by parents. A lot of people pushing in. And some of the food was interesting to say the least. We were able to grab something everyday however. Our best night was Mexican night - many delicious items. A lot of pork (including one night a hog roast I got a piece of which included an organ). I have been to other 3/4 star all inclusives and the food here was very similar to those. You do get table service for drinks at lunch/ dinner which is a nice touch. There are 2 à la carte restaurants - we went to both. The Asian the starters were great but everything else poor. The Italian was also very bad. Service was not good in either (same staff both times) and food is not 5 star. I wouldn’t recommend going to either - food is basic and not authentic to either cuisine. The food overall is what really lets this hotel down - 100% not 5 star and if this was brought up to the standard of the rest of the hotel it would be brilliant. The hotel is spotless - always staff around cleaning all areas. And every single member of staff is polite and helpful. We also visited the spa (90 mins included with stay) and my partner treated me to a massage. This was lovely I would recommend. They do make you wear a swim cap (not waterproof and a 2.50 charge). It was very quiet in there and relaxing. The drinks are good - a few cocktails which were pre-made but tasty. Branded spirits and really strong measures (even too strong sometimes!) and service was always relatively quick too. I would recommend this hotel for families - I would definitely return in the future when we have children but don’t think I’d return as a couple. It is very family orientated which is great. If the food was better I would rate it 5, but my 4 star review is simply because of this.

There’s a lot of mixed reviews but this is an honest one. It’s quite long but filled with important info. We recently stayed here as a family 4 adults and 1 child. We went all inclusive and went out for 1 meal on our last night. Outside the hotel: From the outside the hotel looks very nice. There are plenty of shops including 2 Spar shops which are 2 minutes walk. Quite a few bars and restaurants which all serve a variety of food. There are 4+ souvenir shops around the hotel which sell the usual inflatables, key rings, clothing and toys etc. There is also 3 restaurant/bars on the beach front all within up to 5mins walk. There is a soft play jungle virtually outside the back gate but wouldn’t recommend during the mid day sun although it is shaded with a roof. The area its self is quite clean and well kept. Our Stay: From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff couldn’t do enough for us. We had an issue with the toilet the day we arrived and it was sorted within 20 minutes and was perfect the whole holiday. FOOD: the breakfast was amazing. The best breakfast I’ve had at an all inclusive hands down plus English sausages (same ones you get at a chippy). Dinner we only did once from the buffet and they served a variety of food. We had 2 very picky eaters and they only had one ‘off’ day where there wasn’t much they likes but still found something and enjoyed it. The pool bar served roasted chicken, pork pattys, pizza, paella (varied meat everyday), chips and pizza + the inside salad/fruit bar along with fresh breads, cheeses and cold meats. The evening meals: honestly same with the breakfast couldn’t fault it at all. They had the grill station which varied meats and fish, kids section, fresh salad, cold meats and cheeses. They did do themed nights along side there usual day to day which were good apart from the India curry they made which I wasn’t that surprised to be honest BUT the starters were very nice. All in all the food was honestly very good and I think when I saw other reviews I was very sceptical but knowing what I know now they are far from reality. Entertainment: The kids show everyday and it starts at 8 with dancing to music etc and the 2 lady’s that run it were awesome. They got all the kids involved and honestly my little un loved it along with all the others. The rest of the entertainment however was a good laugh in my opinion. I can see it’s not to everyone’s taste and there is more Spanish than English BUT we had a good laugh and it’s what you make it and if you’re miserable and complain to begin with then it isn’t for you. We drank had a laugh and we enjoyed it. Rooms: the room was perfectly fine, big separate room, plenty of space to store your cloths, safe in the wardrobe, very spacious bathroom with separate toilet room inside which is a nice touch if you have a kid running round whilst you’re trying to do your business in peace. Overall very nice. The rooms were cleaned daily and towels replaced daily. You can use the do not disturb sign. The best part was the mini fridge which had glass bottles pop like Fanta lemon and orange, coke, cartoned orange juice and bottles water replenished daily. Kettle with tea and coffee you’d just need fresh milk. You definitely need bug spray we all got bitten to pieces BUT we didn’t let it get us down or ruin the holiday. If we knew we’d get bitten again we’d still come again! Pool: Again, we listened to reviews and we thought it was going to be shocking… far from it. Kids pool/splash park absolutely fantastic it was a nightmare getting our little un out for more sun cream or food as she just wanted to go down the slides all day. Main pool fantastic again.. the lazy river was amazing and the outdoor spat pool was nice as they had jacuzzi loungers which were heaven. We also looked at the pics from the initial holiday advert and the pool looks tiny and that’s far from it. Honestly one of the best pools we’ve had at a hotel. The beach: we only lasted maybe an hour in total as our little un was scared of the big waves as it was very breezy which I prefer anyway but even for me being 6ft 2 the waves were big and they break so late so there’s hardly any gradual water going up onto the shale. All in all a very clean beach though plus there’s plenty of beds with parasols (don’t know how much to rent). The restaurant we ate at: We had seen reviews about a steak house. Not sure if it was this one but if it was then they were definitely right! This restaurant is literally round the corner no more than a 5min walk. Restaurante CASA ELI: nothing much to say apart from it’s the best ribeye steaks we’ve ever had. I don’t like miller and carter but for those that do it makes them look silly. We ordered 4 ribeyes and one breaded chicken steak. Fresh homemade chips (old chip pan chips) we had the loaded fries sharing platter which was also stunning. The staff were very kind and so helpful and generous. It’s a husband and wife plus kids set up and they genuinely care about the food they produce and the way they treat customers. So the 2 sharing starters, 4 ribeyes, 1 chicken steak, 6 beers, 3 glasses of rose, 1 bottle of red and 3-4 mixers and it was €210 and we tipped €50. Hands down best steak I’ve ever had. This hotel surpassed every review we read and we’ll definitely be going back at some point in the future. One of the nicest hotels overall we’ve been to.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay in this hotel. We travelled as a family of 4 (2 adults 2 children) plus another party of 3. On arrival hotel looks lovely from outside - nice and clean throughout Check in was straightforward, helpful & friendly, our room was ready straight away, which was great! We had a suite, which was lovely and spacious, a seperate living area and bedroom, downside was the balcony view.. or lack of. We were facing a wall of the building opposite. Slightly dissapointed at first, but we were never really in the room so it wasn't a major issue. Air con wasnt great in our room - it was always hot, even with doors and windows shut, had maintenance come to check on it a few times, but they never resolved the issue! Just put on/off stickers on the control.. Free soft drinks and water in the mini bar in room is a nice touch - replenished everyday Take plenty of bug repellent - my husband had so many bites, none of us usually get bothered by bites, but this time was crazy!! - lots of black flies everywhere too! The pool area is great - alot bigger than we expected, lazy river is lovely, nice way to cool down & relax. Some areas in need of a little TLC, loose tiles in alot of areas in the main pool & lazy river Always plenty of sunbeds available but you need to be out before 8am to secure a spot around the pool - otherwise there is always plenty of room on the grass areas. Hotel charges €15 refundable deposit for each pool towel if needed Kids splash/slides area is great, always got a bed later in the afternoon when we would take the kids over - all of us, kids & adults had fun on the slide, just a shame it's away from the main pool area All staff were generally nice, but the pool bar staff were on another level with customer service in comparison to other areas - special mention to Olga, Taida, Maria, Manolo Breakfast was always great. Lots of options & always really tasty. Downside being you can't get a coffee outside of restaurant before 8am!! Unless you make it in your room, but the powdered milk isn't great! Lunch at the pool bar was lovely, always had fresh salad options, and rotisserie chicken and every now again a very questionable black pudding option.. We only ate in the main restaurant for lunch a couple times so can't really comment on that. The snack area in the pool bar is also great, lots of ice cream options, cakes & pastries - kids loved it! Evening meal in the restaurant however, was terrible. We only ate in the restaurant in the evening about 4/5 times through our stay as the food was not very nice at all. A la carte options also terrible. Starters in the Asian were lovely, but the main courses weren't very nice at all - tikka massala and madras were like soup Italian - I wouldn't even bother booking that to be honest. Everything from the service to the food was really dissapointing. We never used our bookings for the second week for either of these restaurants. Entertainment in the evening is ok.. any shows are all in Spanish though.. and repeated each week! Also really dissapointing to find the hotel hosting the England world cup games in a basement room with no bar or toilet facilities , when there is a large tv in the pool bar area which would of been perfect. Instead we went out to Lillys bar across the road to enjoy this event Drinks aren't great - cocktails are poor, the nicest is the pina colada - although that was whizzed up in a blender. Top tip - take large plastic cups/straws as paper ones don't last long We really enjoyed our stay however - would not return. This hotel is definitely not a 5 star hotel. Maybe a good few years ago it would of been up there with the best, but it needs a good refurbishment to be more modernised and freshened up. A little TLC needed in certain areas. And the reception area is in definite need of air conditioning, it's really uncomfortable - I dread to think how it would be in the height of summer in August.
