Medplaya Hotel Pez Espada

“Great Hotel in Great Location.”

Stayed in a junior suite for a week in early June. Great room in a great location, overlooking the beach with a hot tub on the balcony. The food was as good as we have had anywhere in Spain. The staff were excellent and went out of their way to help with any issues. Would certainly return.

Fabulous hotel, always good hot food everywhere was very clean the only difference this year was that you cannot use your own hair dryer in the bathroom as the socket has been covered i know this is for safety but there are no socket near the mirrors in the room but this was the only issue with this brilliant hotel and would definitely go again for the 3rd time

“Third Visit”

This was our third stay with Pez Espada, again a family group ranging from a 3 year old child to a 79 year old grandmother. The location is terrific, 20 mins from Malaga airport in a private transfer, right on the seafront promenade, walking distance to many great restaurants. Our room had a sea view which was nice. The room itself was good, big enough for the three of us, the bathroom was a bit smaller than we had previously, but it was fine. The beds were awful, my wife and I both ended up with sore necks from the long thin pillows, and the mattresses seemed quite hard, sleep quality was not good. We were half-board, breakfast and dinner. I thought the quality of the food was quite good, but my wife can't eat gluten and dairy, and her choices were rather limited. There also wasn't much selection for our three year old son, I accept that there is an older clientele in June, so there may be more available in July/August busy season. Due to this, we only used the restaurant twice in our ten night stay. Please - put the fried eggs out in a dish like most other hotels at breakfast - having to stand in line for them is terrible. The staff in the hotel are quite pleasant, the bar staff especially. Our eldest traveller needs a mobility scooter to get around, the hotel is not too welcoming of this, and we encountered an issue where the charger for the scooter went missing from where it was charging near reception(most likely stolen), and the response from the person on the desk was - "we take nothing to do with this, not our problem". Not exactly great customer service given the 300 euro security deposit we had to leave with the hotel for any damages caused by the scooter. Cleanliness was fine, rooms are cleaned daily, cleaning staff are very nice. There was a piece of wet tissue paper under our sink unit, from before we arrived, and it was never removed throughout our stay, and there was a very large dead wasp lying by the steps from the block behind the pool, for quite a few days. Small issues. The pool is great, massive, and a nice temp in the afternoon. The surrounding area is well maintained. The food from the poolside truck was very poor. From cold hot dogs to untoasted toasted sandwiches, I would avoid it. Again, with there being an older clientele in June, there was zero atmosphere in the hotel. A lot of the guests, especially a few grumpy Germans, go to bed very early, and the place is a bit of a ghost town in the evenings. There was entertainment on in the bar at the back of the hotel, but it wasn't for us. Overall, I would still recommend the Pez Espada, but there are a few improvements that be made.
