Summary We stayed for a 10-night all-inclusive holiday as two adults and two children in a family room with a terrace. We really enjoyed our stay and would gladly return.  Positives Facilities, food and drink, entertainment, and the swimming pool. Negatives Nothing major. I've stayed at many similar hotels so this review will mainly focus on what I perceive to be above or less than the average similar hotel. Arrival Check-in was swift, but I would have appreciated a clearer explanation of the all-inclusive perks and the details about the 5 euro deposit for the safe key. It would have saved us a quick second trip. We arrived in the early afternoon and our room was ready. It didn’t matter that we’d missed the main restaurant lunch, as we could get burgers at the food truck. We also arrived at the family pool just as the foam party started (Fridays at 15:00), which was a brilliant way to kick off the holiday. Location The hotel sits in the middle of the Peguera resort, slightly set back from the coast and up into the hills. The Jet2 transfer bus took about an hour, stopping via Palma Nova and Santa Ponsa before reaching the hotel. There are plenty of supermarkets, pharmacies, bars, and restaurants nearby on Bulevar de Peguera, which is about a ten-minute downhill walk from the hotel. A bus stop and taxi rank are at the bottom of the road, and the beach is accessible from there too. Facilities The main wing has six floors of bedrooms, with approximately 50 rooms per floor. Odd-numbered rooms overlook the main pool, while even-numbered rooms look over the family pool and evening entertainment area. In my opinion, both sides have a good view—just note that only the first floor has an outdoor terrace. The hotel also has some adults-only areas, but we didn’t use them, so they’re not included in this review. The grounds are well kept and include lots of local plant life. The family pool is surrounded by mature palms and pine trees, which provides some shade throughout the day. We spent most of our time at the family pool. The sunbeds are comfortable and there were plenty of them, although there weren’t many umbrellas. The hotel provides pool towels that are good quality. You don’t need to reserve beds early, unless you want a specific spot. The lifeguard (I didn’t catch their name) was the best I’ve seen at a holiday hotel pool. There’s also a speaker set-up around the pool, but in my view it’s underused. The main pool is a bit more sedate than the family one, and slightly warmer—possibly because it had less shade. Hotel room Our family room was clean and modern, but on the smaller side for four people. I think this is the main reason why the hotel is only officially a 3 star; everything else in the hotel is way above that. The air conditioning control was set to 19°C, but it didn’t quite cool the room enough for a proper break from the heat. The TV supports screencasting, and the HDMI port is easy to access for a Fire Stick. The dual-head shower in the open-plan bathroom had plenty of space, heat, and water pressure. My boys slept reasonably well on the sofa bed, but I struggled on the main bed. I woke up with a stiff back one morning, although Helena’s 11:00 stretching session helped. Food and drink The main restaurant was about average compared with similar hotels. The standout difference is that alcoholic drinks are served to the table. The waiting staff were usually quick to take your first order, but follow-up drinks were harder to get. Some staff were better than others—Carlos and Santiago in the family area consistently delivered a great service. The early-morning breakfast (from 03:00) is the best I’ve come across. Because we stayed more than seven nights, we received one free dinner at the à la carte Italian restaurant. The food and service were noticeably better there. When booking, you had to choose your seating area, and we selected outside—then regretted it, as the interior looks much more interesting. We used the food truck a couple of times when the timing suited us. The menu is a bit limited and pricey if you’re not on AI, but it’s very convenient for the family pool. The menu is shown on the QR code in one of the photos attached to my review. We mostly used the family pool bar for drinks, and it’s the best bar we experienced at AI hotels. Part of the AI+ deal is that branded drinks are available. The cocktails are made to order from the base ingredients and served in high-quality plastic glasses. Although, I think the designated gin class is too big for a standard measure of gin; some of the bar understood this and others didn't. There’s also a proper coffee machine, and a carajillo (with Baileys) was my favourite way to start the afternoon. San Miguel is on tap, but there are better bottled beers too, such as Estrella Galicia. The two red wine options are from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, and they score 3.6 on Vivino. The bar staff were very approachable, and they kindly corrected my Spanish mispronunciations—although English seems to be widely used around the hotel. I even noticed a few staff speaking English to each other for self-development. Some were clearly more experienced than others (Adriana and Nora stood out), but most were happy to learn. Evening table service had mixed results. Raul gave great service, but some other staff seemed to go out of their way to ignore us. Entertainment The entertainment is great for young families. There are close to 20 team members from across Europe. The two main leaders, Helena and Andre, are polyglots and clearly experienced. Some of the others are still early in their careers, but they were friendly and engaging. The mini club runs most of the day in a dedicated, gated facility and is well staffed. Overall, it feels well run by Tessa, but a more structured daily schedule of activities would be helpful. My boys were nervous when they first went in, but they were keen on the second day. The policy seems to be that every child who participates in the day receives a certificate after the mini disco, and that was the main selling point for them. Evening entertainment is a mix of in-house mime-style productions and visiting performers. Helena and Reuben bring a lot of talent to the shows, and we found them entertaining. Environmental considerations The hotel and the Valentin group don’t appear to have a sustainability report, and they aren’t ISO 14001 certified. That said, I don’t think they’re far off it, and it could be achieved relatively easily. There are recycling bins near the elevators and a dedicated area for recycling pool and beach items. The mini club also has a library of pool toys that can be borrowed and returned each day. There’s also a compressed air line available if you bring your own inflatables. The plastic cups used by the pool bars are cleaned and reused on site. I wasn't impressed with the prolific use of the plastic water bottles at the pool bar. The Italian restaurant had nice valentin branded glass bottles that claimed to be bottled in-house and I'd like to see them more widely used.
