Overall, we had a good stay, but there were a few areas that could be improved. On arrival, we were given very little information about the hotel. We upgraded to all-inclusive, which was worthwhile, but it wasn’t explained which bars and facilities were included, so we had to ask staff later. There are two buffet restaurants. Nimbra felt disorganised, with no one greeting guests or explaining the seating, and it often seemed overcrowded and not as clean as expected. Olivia was a much better experience, with friendly staff, a calmer atmosphere, cleaner surroundings, and much better food. Housekeeping made the bed and changed the towels daily, but during our 10-night stay, the bed sheets were only changed once, despite visible stains on them. The bathroom also had an unpleasant smell after cleaning as if our toilet had been used whilst we was gone. The shower flooded easily if the water pressure was turned up. The à la carte restaurants aren’t included with the all-inclusive package, although you do receive a 10% discount. The Koi restaurant was outstanding—the best meal we had, with excellent service and fresh food. The complimentary pool towels were a great touch. Only one pool was heated, as the others were too cold to use. The pool bars were good, with average food, good drinks, and excellent slushies. The evening entertainment was fantastic every night. Overall, we enjoyed our holiday and had a good experience, but due to the issues mentioned, we probably wouldn’t choose to stay here again. Worth noting that the hotel is about a 30–40 minute walk from the centre (or around a 6-minute taxi), so keep that in mind if you prefer to be within walking distance. It can also get very windy here, but that’s just part of being in the Canary Islands rather than anything to do with the hotel.

This was our third stay at this hotel, both as All Inclusive (AI) and Royal Level guests, so hopefully this review provides a balanced and comprehensive perspective for anyone considering a stay. On this occasion, we stayed on the Playa side on an All Inclusive basis. Our room was clean, spacious, and very welcoming. It was a lovely touch that Barceló recognised us as returning guests, leaving us a welcome-back card and gift in our room. Small gestures like this really make a difference and show appreciation for loyal customers. The shower pressure was a little lower than expected, but given the island’s focus on water conservation and environmental efficiency, it certainly wasn’t a major issue. The water was always warm and perfectly adequate. I’ve noticed several negative reviews regarding the air conditioning, but it’s worth pointing out that the hotel clearly displays notices explaining that air conditioning operates within government-regulated temperature limits. This is something beyond the hotel’s control and should be taken into consideration before criticising them. A useful tip for anyone concerned about the air conditioning is to open both the balcony door and the room door for a few minutes. This creates a pleasant through breeze that quickly removes any built-up heat from the room. We found this worked surprisingly well and kept the room feeling comfortable, particularly after returning from a day in the sun. The hotel complex itself is large, spacious, and spread across several levels, yet it never feels overcrowded. Food is always a popular topic in hotel reviews, and it’s important to remember that a hotel catering to guests from many different nationalities will never please everyone’s tastes. Throughout our stay, the food was consistently warm, well cooked, and there was always plenty of choice. While not every dish suited my personal taste, I never struggled to find something enjoyable. Personally, I would take many of the negative food reviews with a pinch of salt. The staff continue to be one of the hotel’s biggest strengths. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, welcoming, and eager to help. We spent many evenings in the B Lounge Bar, where the resident pianist once again provided the highlight of our evening entertainment. It was also lovely to see one of the bartenders again, whom I’ve met during each of our visits over the years. He has worked at the hotel for more than ten years through its different ownership and branding, which speaks volumes about the hotel as an employer. For those who enjoy exploring, Costa Teguise is easily accessible. It’s around a 30–40 minute walk, depending on whether you choose the seafront promenade or the road, or approximately a €5 taxi ride into the centre. Although we spent most of our time on the Playa side, we did enjoy an excellent massage during our stay, which I would highly recommend. The only area where I feel improvements are needed is around the main pool. On previous visits, we regularly saw staff pressure washing the sunbeds and cleaning the pool surrounds overnight. During this stay, this routine didn’t appear to be happening, and unfortunately it was noticeable. While the rest of the hotel remains exceptionally clean—helped by the robotic cleaning machines—they simply aren’t a substitute for the attention to detail provided by the housekeeping staff. The pool filtration system also appeared to be either running slowly or not functioning as efficiently as it should. Water was overflowing onto the surrounding tiles, making them quite slippery, and there was some algae beginning to build up around the drainage channels. On our previous visits, pool attendants regularly scrubbed these areas manually, so hopefully this is something management will address soon. It’s worth stressing that this was the only cleanliness issue we encountered, as the remainder of the hotel was spotless, which has always been our experience with Barceló hotels. The usual issue of sunbed reservations still exists, with many loungers remaining reserved but unused for long periods. However, despite arriving at around 11:00 am each day, we always managed to find two sunbeds together, although I appreciate others weren’t always as fortunate. Pool towels are available from the pool area and can be exchanged twice during your stay. Overall, we had another wonderfully relaxing holiday. We slept extremely well, enjoyed the facilities, and once again received excellent service throughout our stay. We will certainly be returning and are already looking at staying at a Barceló resort in Mexico for something a little different. For anyone trying to decide between Royal Level and All Inclusive, it really comes down to what matters most to you. If premium branded spirits, a quieter infinity pool, and a more exclusive atmosphere are priorities, then Royal Level may be worth the extra cost. However, we found the food to be very similar, just presented slightly differently. The main pool on the Playa side was larger, warmer, and cleaner, and many of the local spirits served were perfectly enjoyable alternatives. We personally prefer staying All Inclusive, as the money saved easily covers meals out at local restaurants should we fancy a change. If you do decide to eat out, I would certainly recommend El Patio, which is well worth a visit. I hope this review helps anyone considering this hotel make the right decision for their holiday. For us, Barceló continues to be an excellent hotel group that consistently delivers friendly service, comfortable accommodation, and a relaxing holiday experience. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.
