We had another pleasant stay at the Mirador Papagayo. This was our 2nd visit and it all went very smoothly. The reception staff at this hotel are so friendly,courteous and helpful. We had a tiny problem with ants in our room, which was swiftly sorted out. The pool areas are always easy to get a sunbed etc…I just wish the life guard would sit nearer the main pool, as he is situated further back by the cafe, and I’m not sure he can fully see what is happening in the pool. The restaurant staff were as good as before, always helpful and polite. The food wasn’t as good as last year, but only in the variety, what was there was always hot and tasty. All in all a good stay for myself and my family.

This was a return visit for us 10 years after our first visit and we would return again. Overall it’s a great hotel but could still be improved with some minor changes. We arrived at 10pm and were told there was a cold buffet in the restaurant for us as we’d missed dinner. Had we not visited the hotel before this would have been a very poor first impression. There were some random small pots of starter type dishes probably left over with no indication of what they were and a partially cut cake with some fruit. No cold meats or cheese, no sandwiches or bread. We had a piece of cake and left really disappointed. To add insult to injury we asked on our last day if we could have lunch as we were half board and missed our first night meal but were told we’d have to pay 18€ for this. Just felt a bit off and a really poor welcome to a lovely hotel. Our room was great smelt lovely and clean and in good decorative order. We were in the main hotel section. Tv not that we watched it unusually had bbc itv ch 4 and ch5. Fridge was really useful and plenty of wardrobe storage. Daily Cleaners do a fab job. Great shower. Breakfast…excellent hot choice. Cereals less so. Missed a bran flakes type cereal which is usually standard. Cold fruit and breads and patisserie excellent. Juice selection was just orange or some odd smoothies and apple juice would be a good addition. Always enjoyed breakfast outside. Pools…great temperature. The outdoor jacuzzi pools were a bit inconsistent when they worked. Lots of sunbeds. Maybe clarity if smoking is permitted on sunbeds as people were, and also why do people not use earphones but feel entitled to use their speakers? Hotel music around the pool was fine but I didn’t really want to hear personal music choices as well. Maybe some signage needed. Spa we used twice and is 20€ for an hour and a half or half that if you book a treatment. This was new from our last visit and very impressive. The massage was great too and lovely helpful staff. The gym was pretty good too but a shame it didn’t seem to be air conditioned. Good enough equipment selection though for a hotel gym. Dinner was good and we always found something nice. Felt a bit repetitive at times and lots of small starter type pots of stuff which isn’t really our thing and didn’t really seem that popular. Always two soups. The grill was our main saviour at dinner where two proteins were available but other than that choice was limited and seemed a bit random at times. The hotel was quiet which maybe why choice seemed limited. Felt like more should be made of the pasta option and sauces which always seemed a bit of an afterthought and sauces not kept particularly hot. There were a few times there seemed to be random items that didnt really come together as a meal. Usually a pizza option for dinner as well at most hotels but only once here and they couldn’t keep up with demand. We managed to find something nice most nights but for me this was grill items salad and chips. Deserts a bit bland and very repetitive. Seemed a bit sparse at times and disappointed one evening when all 4 ice cream flavours were needing to be replaced but nobody about to tell. We got by and it was perfectly fine but a week was long enough with dinner. We did the half board upgrade to get evening meal drinks for 7€ a night which worked well. Wine beer and soft drinks with dinner and you helped yourself. We had a couple of cocktails in the reception bar which were great value for money ant €6 and came in decent sized jugs. Evening Entertainment just wasn’t for us. Headed down to the theatre a couple of nights but it was hot and a bit dark and the acts weren’t great. Singers on a bland stage with backing tracks, strange circus or magic acts not really for us. Nice walk down to the marina for better entertainment. Shame not more is made of the lovely outside terrace next to reception for entertainment and a bit more lighting. There was one night where they had an awesome piano player playing pop tunes for an hour but other than that unless you wanted to watch footie on a big screen inside, it’s a shame that there isn’t more going on on the terrace. After checkout we used the courtesy rooms but these didn’t reflect the hotel well…told to use our pool towels rather than have them supplied and a random charging room you couldn’t lock with a separate lockable single shower and toilet. Really basic and I struggled to understand how they would work if there was a few chaps wanting to use the single room and shower. We’ve had better. Hotel location is great and the promenade walk to the marina and playa blanca is lovely. There are a couple of supermarkets opposite the hotel one of which was an Iceland Morrisons store which was random but great for home comforts. I love the hotel design and it’s very well maintained. It’s not a new hotel but very modern and lovely open communal areas with stunning views. We would return for sure as there are lots of lovely things about this hotel but hope these comments make it even better for our future visit.

A very nice holiday here. Hotel very clean, All staff that we spoke to were very professional and polite. We were half board and the food was fine to good. Water is provided throughout the hotel for free (a refreshing change for half board). Drinks prices were very good really, especially for a hotel. Nice cocktails at only 6euros. Our room (52) was lovely, with nice views that we didn't expect. Very spacious, nice terrace and quite. Evening entertainment was very disappointing most nights and started a little too late in our opinion. Pool was lovely and a nice temperature. Location was perfect for us as we like to walk. Easy walks down to Rubicon marina and to Playa Blanca town. (fairly flat all the way with stunning views throughout). So why didn't we score 5/5? Firstly - on arrival we were asked to give credit card details in case of any damage to the room - our issue with this is, you don't get to view the room before signing the agreement and giving your card details. (we did have an issue with the terrace door latch, but it was rectified very quickly, and no further problem). To us it just doesn't feel very welcoming to be put on the spot and asked for this as soon as you arrive. Secondly - there are areas for people to smoke and vape, but you do get the odd ignorant smoker/vaper who thinks they can just do this wherever they want (mostly vapers). There is a distinct lack of 'No smoking/vaping' signs throughout the hotel. Thirdly as mentioned earlier - the entertainment is not in keeping with the hotel, this is a lovely hotel and the entertainment seems very low budget and brings the standard of the hotel down a little (in our opinion). Another point i think worthy of mention is - you can't pay with cash at the bar (card only or give room number) - we were a little concerned about the fact that this could easily be abused with wrong room numbers being given - but we had no issues and you can pay with cash (if you like) at reception whenever you want to settle your account. . One last point and as other reviews have stated - we also had a late pick-up and were told that we were not able to use the restaurant for lunch unless we paid extra, even though when we had a late arrival there was only a very small and disappointing selection for an evening snack. Come on LIVVO at least sort the lunch issue out - the food is already prepared!! Would we stay there again? Absolutely! I recently stayed here with my family, the pool side of things were great, very clean pool/poolside and great drinks, however the pool snack area for lunch time was very the same and not much variety. Again with the food inside, either same food mosts nights/limited options, especially for our toddler, it was either pasta/nuggets or chips, not much variety. The evening entertainment was great for kids, however it was the same routine every night, would've like to see it change up abit. The down side was the cleanliness of the rooms, we complained every day about the room and it wasn't till day 4 that they finally took action. They did however compensate by a late check out fee. I thought I'd save the best till last, but we had money taken out of our safe, we were able to put different codes in, which we did have a meeting with head office and told to take to the police. Overall I wouldn't stay here again.
