“Very bad illness”

My daughter became very unwell here.. Spent 3 nights in hospital and has had reoccurring visits since. Something nasty is going around. No help when going to receptionist in the night. My daughter became very unwell here.. Spent 3 nights in hospital and has had reoccurring visits since. Something nasty is going around. No help when going to receptionist in the night. Needs shutting down and a serious deep clean, birds need to be out the restaurant and off the food etc. The more I read especially on Facebook group- this has happened to lots and lots of guests but the hotel and holiday companies seems to be ignoring/ denying any knowledge of it so feel I have to leave this review.

Honest Review - date of stay 05/06-14/06 I wanted to give an honest review of this hotel after spending a week all inclusive. First impressions of the hotel were great, it’s really beautiful, and reception were very welcoming. In fact throughout our stay all staff we came across were lovely, friendly and warm. With maybe the exception of some of the cooks/waiting staff who didn’t always appear very happy to be there. Our room, 109, was lovely. Clean and had everything you needed. We did have an issue in that the aircon stopped working in both rooms a couple of days in and we ended up having to move rooms - to 125 - because they weren’t able to fix it during our stay. Communication was poor on this as they sent someone to look at it and then we never heard anything until we chased up - 3 times. The room we moved to again was lovely, clean and no complaints. Food - breakfast was by far the best of the offerings. We only had lunch in the main restaurant once as we didn’t feel it was that great and ended up using the snack bar the rest of the week. Dinner times were hit and miss and we did struggle with our 4yr old and getting something for him to eat some nights. I actually haven’t ever stayed at a hotel where chicken nuggets, pizza, fish fingers aren’t on the menu every night - some nights all he ate was a bowl of chips which for a week fine I can deal with it but if you’re any longer with a fussy small one you would probably end up eating out or ordering in McDonalds which I did one night - which kind of defeats the object of paying for all inc. Snack bar I found ok, yes the sandwiches and wraps are pretty naff as many have mentioned but we did always find something in there to eat in the day. Again though, I’ve not stayed anywhere before that doesn’t cook to order things like a toastie, or pizzas. The main issue we found with the food is the birds in the main restaurant. There should not be sparrows nibbling away at pastries and bread. It’s a really inexpensive fix and for a 4* hotel, that charges what it charges - there’s no excuse for not fixing it. They could at the very least put covers over the food. Take it up a notch and put netting on the terrace windows so they can’t get in, or, install automatic doors from the restaurant to the terrace so they can’t get in. Pools - can’t fault them. Some minor maintenance issues like tiles that need replacing but we spent a lot of our time around the pool and in it and can’t fault it Evening Entertainment - a lot to be desired. For a 4* hotel the entertainment on offer is abysmal. I’ve stayed at hotels with much much better offerings. They need to do better with this. There was a Shania Twain tribute act that sang 3 Shania songs and then moved on to 80s music with a twist. She also mumbled lots of the words. I did quite like the act Angel on one of the nights though, he was good fun and a good singer. Facilities - all in all decent. I do think the shop should stop open longer than 6pm though especially as you’re so far away from anything else - there’s nothing between the hotel and las Americas so it should really be open a bit longer in my opinion. Games room - our little one loved it in there but some of the machines are tired and need fixing/updating. Didn’t use the spa or gym so cannot comment. Cocktails - disappointing. Most of them not even drinkable. I’m assuming it’s all pre-bought/pre-mixed stuff which again for a 4* hotel I’d expect the bar staff to be able to rustle up a mojito or whisky sour. They just put sugar at the bottom of the glass so when you took a sip you ended up with a mouth full of granulated sugar 🙈 We stayed during the issues the hotel had with illness. Thankfully, none of us came down with it although I did have a dodgy belly a couple of days I can’t say what that was down to and it didn’t affect the holiday. It was nice to see the improvements they were trying to make when it became apparent there was an issue - although putting hand sanitiser at the entrance to the restaurant and snack bar is great, but you’ve got to encourage people to use it too - saw so many people just walking past the station. The waiter at the entrance when he ticks you off his list should be really saying to people to sanitise before they enter. It was good to see touch points being cleaned more regularly and I believe the restaurant had a full deep clean one day when it closed at lunch. Location - as mentioned above, it’s a way out of las Americas. Not bad for €7 down to the golden mile or las vistas in a taxi. It’s about a half an hour walk though with literally nothing between the hotel and there. For us as a family it suited us to be out of the Las Americas but if you want to be close to shops, the beach, restaurants and bars - I’d probably book something further down the hill. All in all, our family had a lovely holiday here. Yes improvements should be made, and if they do make improvements then we’d stay here again. Just for the money paid, and how it’s advertised, it was a little anticlimactic - especially as I know someone who stayed here in August 2025 who said it was the best hotel she’d ever stayed at and it was out of this world - so my expectations were high. But I adapted them and we still had a lovely holiday. We were 2 adults, 1 15yr old and 1 4yr old. Not a massive amount for the 15yr old to do though but she did have a lovely time.

We recently stayed at Gran Oasis Resort in Tenerife and, while we had an enjoyable holiday overall, there were several positives and negatives worth mentioning for anyone considering booking. The biggest downside for us was the location. The hotel is quite secluded and isn’t within comfortable walking distance of Los Cristianos or Playa de las Américas. While taxis were readily available, we found ourselves spending around €10 each way whenever we wanted to go out in the evenings or explore the surrounding areas. If you prefer a hotel close to shops, restaurants and nightlife, this is something to consider. Our room was spacious, comfortable and generally well maintained. The amenities were fairly basic but adequate, including a TV, daily towel changes, and an iron and ironing board available on request. One thing that surprised us was that the safety deposit boxes were located at reception rather than in the rooms. We stayed in one of the duplex-style rooms and, although they offered plenty of space, I didn’t feel they were particularly child-friendly. The staircase was quite steep, the metal balustrades had protruding support bars at head height, and some surfaces became very slippery when wet. Families with younger children should consider requesting a stair gate before arrival, as this would provide additional peace of mind and make the accommodation safer for little ones. The food was acceptable and largely what you would expect from an all-inclusive resort. There was a reasonable selection, but some dishes could be dry and the menu became repetitive after several days. What concerned me more was the lack of control around food hygiene. Birds regularly helped themselves to food from the buffet area, and on multiple occasions I saw children touching food with their hands, eating from serving stations, and then putting their fingers back into shared food areas. I felt staff could have been more proactive in monitoring and managing this, particularly during busy meal times. The pool facilities were one of the highlights of the hotel. There are three heated pools, all of which are spacious and generally never felt overcrowded. However, two of the pools are over 1.4 metres deep, and while there is a dedicated baby pool, it is quite small and became dirty quickly during the day. As an early riser, I often saw the staff cleaning the pool areas in the mornings. They worked hard, but it seemed they were under time pressure and unable to carry out the deeper cleaning and maintenance that some areas would benefit from. One thing to note is that the water slides are not located near the main pool complex. The promotional photos can give the impression that everything is together, but the slides are situated separately from the main facilities. While this wasn’t a major issue, it did make that area feel somewhat isolated from the rest of the resort. During our stay there was an outbreak of gastroenteritis affecting some guests. The hotel appeared to react quickly and implemented additional hygiene measures, which was reassuring. However, based on what I witnessed around the buffet, I couldn’t help but feel that stricter supervision of food hygiene and guest behaviour may have helped reduce the risk in the first place. The staff throughout the hotel were excellent—friendly, hardworking and always willing to help. They were undoubtedly one of the strongest aspects of our stay. The entertainment was average overall; the daytime activities were enjoyable and well organised, but the evening entertainment was fairly standard and not particularly memorable. Overall, Gran Oasis Resort is a pleasant hotel with spacious accommodation, excellent Wi-Fi, good pool facilities and genuinely attentive staff. However, it would benefit from some maintenance, a deeper focus on cleanliness in certain areas, and improved monitoring of hygiene around the buffet. While we enjoyed our holiday and would recommend the hotel to others depending on what they’re looking for, it’s not somewhere we would personally choose to return to.
