We stayed for a week at the Costa mar and went self catering as we like doing our own thing. We had asked for an upper floor and we paid a bit extra but it so worth it. We had a spacious 1 bed apartment with a large private balcony overlooking the beach. Fabulous. Yes it’s basic , no frills but we’ve stayed in similar places before so wasn’t expecting much. However it’s clean , comfortable and convenient. Excellent spar shop on the doorstep and plenty of places to eat close by or you can eat at the hotel €10 breakfast buffet or €16 dinner . We had a brilliant time and the pool was an added bonus. Staff are lovely and very helpful. I would definitely book again x

I enjoyed the 10 days we spent here, breakdown below Reception / Restaurant Area Both areas looked modern and clean. We were half board and the food was decent enough. Breakfast appeared to be alternated every other day, usual selection of items, toast, bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, croissants, cakes etc. Weirdly no nutella which was immediately noticed by the kids so we bought our own from the Spar over the road. Evening Meal, tended to be a soup which changed daily, 2 meats, a fish and then various other items likes chips, veg, salad etc. No pizza, which again was noticed by the kids. Rooms We had a 2 bedroom apartment in D block which looks over the pool. The room was huge. Had a big living area and a large balcony which caught the sun in the mornings (balcony was facing in the sea direction, pool off to the left hand side). The rooms are dated, the settee and chairs in there had that plasticy coating on them and it all just looked a bit dated. The rooms were perfectly fine though for what we required and the beds were comfortable. People need to remember, if you want something more modern, you need to pay probably twice the price. Pool Area There is a reasonably sized pool. We were there in April and whilst it was busy there was no sunbed issues. Looking at the number of rooms though and th space available here, it would be interesting to see how it would cope in the height of summer. The beach is literally over the road though so there is always that option. Location Good location for us. Took about 15-20 mins to walk to the bottom of the strip and maybe 5 or so to walk left out of the hotel to the bars / restaurants there. We enjoyed Marcos and the Guinness Tavern off to the left and Africa bar when up in the main town. Most bars have all the sport on and live singers on a night. Staff Really good and a credit to the hotel. The reception guys were helpful and friendly and the staff working the restaurant likewise. Other Info First time I have had to pay extra for Wifi. Its free in the reception area or around 20 euro for 2 devices for a week. Works fine by the pool but could be a bit sketchy in the room at times but overall it worked ok. There are some nice bars and restaurants down by the harbour and there is also a smallish beach near there which was good for snorkelling with quite a few fish in that area, particularly near the rocks. Overall An enjoyable holiday in a functional if not spectacular hotel. The staff more than made up for the "dated" room and the location is perfect as most areas are walkable along the sea front with minimal hills / inclines etc.

Just back from a week at Costa Mar with my 3 teenage sons. Nice stay and large 2 bedroom apartment that was very clean and spacious, comfy beds but like other reviews a bit dated, but fine. It’s only a nights sleep for us as we are out and about all day, equipped with everything you would need for a self catering holiday, with kettle and toaster (have been to places before that don’t give you this) however no view from our apartment only a spar shop to look at from terrace on ground floor, just unlucky I guess as majority of apartments have great views. Complex was very nice, extremely clean and well looked after, lovely pool area and plenty beds with a cafe bar during day with the most loviest girl serving (never seen someone smile so much) think she was the life guard as well as bar. We were half board and food in evening was nice a few choices but not loads, nothing really for one of my fussy boys (not really any kids menu) but something you could eat at every meal. Breakfast was nice and everything was hot and nicely cooked. Staff work extremely hard and keep the restaurant so clean. Apartments are nicely situated in a quiet street but not to far from main strip (come out turn right and you have a half hour walk) although turn left and there is a lot of bars/restaurants and shops 5 min walk along beach front (definitely give marcos a try) great food and entertainment every night. Plenty to explore and a good base. Would definitely come back only thing that let us down on this holiday was the weather we were extremely unlucky with that. Thanks Costa Mar we will see you again.

We have just come back from 4 days here, would we go back here? No probably not. The Costa mar is a large apartment/hotel. The apartments are big and spacious but very dated and in need of a refurb. The kitchen areas are very old and in need of modernising. There is no air con in the bedrooms only in the living room area so in peak summer it will probably be uncomfortable trying to sleep. The bathroom is basic but it’s ok, again it does need a refurb. The bedroom area is ok, just beds and a wardrobe. There is a safe which costs extra. You also need to pay for WiFi if you want it in your room which I thought was strange. I’ve never known a hotel charge for WiFi. But You could use a free version at reception. There is no entertainment whatsoever, there’s no pool or table tennis tables. The pool is tiny with not a lot of sun loungers, if it was peak summer and the hotel was full it would be awful. The pool area is too small for a complex this size. The pool area is nice and clean but just too small. There is a very old park for younger children which is pretty rubbish. If I was taking young children I would not stay here. There is nothing for them to do really. I think this complex is suited for older people. The hotel grounds are nice and kept clean and tidy, the reception area is spacious. There is a bar but it’s hardly open. It’s a pool bar until 4pm then nothing until dinner service at 6pm. It shuts very early in the evening. We were half board (breakfast & dinner) The food is not too bad, just not loads of choice. There was always fresh salad, fruit, ham & cheeses. There was always a pasta dish, fish and then a meat dish every evening. There was always chips. No options for children really. The desserts were disappointing, just frozen mini cake portions. Quite bland and flavourless The breakfast was ok,there was continental ham, cheese & salads. Different pastries, eggs, beans, bacon and sausages. You could also get coffees & fruit juices with breakfast too. There was toasters and different selection of bread rolls with both breakfast & dinner. One problem we did have was the butter portions . It was in the fridge in the morning then left on the side in the evening. It smelt really bad and we did have one pack that was mouldy. But overall the food is ok and the restaurant area is nice and kept very clean. The staff are nice. Location wise it is very close to the beach (less than 5 minutes) just outside the hotel is a spar, chemist and 2 restaurants. It’s about a 5 minute walk to Los Jameo where there is some more restaurants, bars and shops but if you want to go to the main town puerto del carmen that’s about a 30 min walk. There is loads of shops, bars, restaurants and a different beach, we walked there everyday as there is a bit more to see and do. If you want somewhere with something to do in the evening then this is not the place to stay.
