“Good but could be better.”

I have just returned from Hotel Costa Calero after an enjoyable 10 day solo holiday. The hotel did not appear to be full. I would guess that most of the quests were 50+. A few families but not many. I have just returned from Hotel Costa Calero after an enjoyable 10 day solo holiday. The hotel did not appear to be full. I would guess that most of the quests were 50+. A few families but not many. Mixed nationalities too, Situated in Puerto Calero, a small, quiet resort with pleasant harbour and a few shops and places to eat and drink around the harbour. The hotel is a few mins walk, up hill, from the harbour. Some find the hill difficult. The nearest town is Puerto del Carmen, a short bus ride or a cliff top walk. A free hotel bus operates at stated times into Puerto del Carmen. I enjoyed the walks around the area and using public transport to go further afield. The hotel has a large footprint with hotel rooms in the main building and in the grounds, surrounding a large pool areas and garden. My room was 417 with lovely views over sea and distant hills and countryside. My balcony had afternoon and evening sun. It had twin beds, an armchair and stand chair. My bed was a little firm but comfortable enough. There was a fridge in my room and bottled water was provided every day, very much appreciated. Don’t know if that’s just for all inclusive. If not, there is a good supermarket across the road. A standard bathroom with shower over the bath and lovely white fluffy towels. The hotel shower gel was good enough, didn’t feel the need to buy more. No kettle in the room so I took my own travel kettle. 26€ for safe. I will say the some of the furniture in my room probably needed replacing, mis matched bedside cabinets, dressing table edges badly chipped and felt loose. Generally the room cleaning was ok. However I didn’t appreciate the Housekeeping knocking on my door not long after 8.30am. Having said that, I didn’t put the Do Not Disturb sign out. But I was clearly in my room and I am on holiday and not wanting to rush around in the mornings like I do at home. Didn’t spoil my holiday but I thought I would give a fair review. Moving around the main hotel building there are areas that need attention. Stained furniture etc. I personally found the majority of staff very friendly towards me. I am a ‘smiley’ lady and this was mostly returned to me. Check-in was very efficient and informative. I had read a number of negative reviews regarding the buffet meals. My own experience was varied. Freshly cooked omelettes at breakfast, yummy. At all meals there were cooks at the grills with freshly cooked meat and fish. To be fair, the ready prepared food in the trays were sometimes luke warm and, on some occasions, actually cold. Even when dining early. Which was disappointing as it is an ongoing issue which has clearly not been properly addressed. There is a microwave in the main dining room. Be prepared for the little birds if you eat al fresco. At least they are little. I live in a seaside town, we get large gulls taking our food, I enjoyed The Piano bar. It gets very busy, before dinner and is comfortable enough, it also has an outdoor area with nice views. There was some sort of background music alternate nights when I was there. There is also a large Show Bar with very comfy seats. Shows vary from the Entertainment Team to brought in shows. The main shows didn’t start until 10pm which I thought was rather late. Maybe that’s because I’m an old lady. Only watched one to be honest and didn’t stop until the end. The pool areas look nice, although I’m not a person that sits around the hotel. I did swim in the large salt water pool once. Where I was sitting was quite dirty, I hadn’t noticed until I was wet, first noticing my dirty feet then, I dropped my damp towel and found it very dirty, needing to be washed. It was my own towel. I did point this out to a staff member who said sorry but I’m not sure if that was passed on. I enjoyed the little garden area and did my Tai Chi there after breakfast, when it was quiet. As for value - well, single people get clobbered don’t they, with a large supplement. I have paid a similar amount of money for 4star hotels before. However, I think it fair to say that, at present, this hotel doesn’t quite make the 4star mark as it is. I’m sure it has at some point and will again if issues are addressed. Would I go again? Possibly. I really enjoyed my holiday.

“good apart from”

great stay had the parrots visit us every day for a feed .the only downfall to the hotel is the lunch time dining experience, how they get away with birds flying around in the restaurant while eating sitting on the backs of chairs dropping bird poo allover the chairs , i also saw some on the paella… more

great stay had the parrots visit us every day for a feed .the only downfall to the hotel is the lunch time dining experience, how they get away with birds flying around in the restaurant while eating sitting on the backs of chairs dropping bird poo allover the chairs , i also saw some on the paella dish which the chef just shoos them away and didnt clean it up. you darnt leave your plate unattended because they were on your food the minute you left, apart from this great stay.

Booked with jet2. 4*luxe. Definitely not. Been in much better. Bedrooms clean. Hotel very run down. Pool tiles broken at so called infinity pool. Around pool very poor. Sunbeds dirty Cat hair on chairs. food very average. Came all inclusive. Ate out every evening. Reading other reviews? I don’… more
