This was our 7th Visit to Costa Calero and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. We are looking forward to returning again in coming years. Having read some of the reviews on this site, I was slightly nervous about returning to our favourite place. I needn't have - these reviews only reflect a small number of people out of the hundreds who use this hotel every week. Key Positives for Us 1. Quality of Food - you can see how hard the hotel is working to improve the quality and variety of food each time we visit. No complaints from us. There is a lot of food here for everyone every day. 2. Cleanliness of Rooms and Hotel - our room was cleaned thoroughly each day and the hotel was very clean also. The staff work so hard. 3. Variety of activities on offer - The animation team work so hard for children and adults alike each day. The provision of these activities help us to make and meet new friends on holiday. The inclusion of Padel Ball now is such a huge hit for us. Thanks to Camacho, Annibal, Serena, Miss B and the rest of the team for all of their hard work from early in the morning to late in the evening. You guys help to make Costa Calero the wonderful holiday destination that it is. 4. Availability of sun beds - there are no sun bed wars at Costa Calero despite what you read on other reviews. Over our 11 nights we had no problem getting a sun bed providing we didn't want to be right beside the pool. On such a large site, there are always sunbeds available. 5 - Atmosphere of Hotel. - We love atmosphere of this hotel. This is a very safe hotel and feel we can totally relax from when we first arrive until we leave. We look forward to meeting up with friends who like us return year after year. Says it all! 6 - Spa is definitely worth a visit. We used it on our check out day as our flight was late and it was a great way to finish our holiday. Thanks to everyone at Costa Calero who helped contribute to another great family holiday. We look forward to returning again in the future.

“Another lovely stay”

We have just returned from a week's stay at this hotel, it is our second visit and it did not disappoint. Myself, my husband, our 5 year old and my parents. The hotel reception is very impressive when you walk in, lots of seating that has all been newly refurbished. Our room (a junior suite) was frankly ginormous, it was the size of 2 hotel rooms with a balcony to match. Twin sinks on an island and a fabulous walk in shower with separate toilet. We had a large sofa, king size bed and single bed for my daughter with still lots and lots of room left (the most spacious room I've ever had) we also had a sea view. Now the food.......I'm not quite sure what people mean when they say "limited choice" i know you cant please everyone but seriously what do these people actually want. Breakfast consists of 5 different cereal, 5 different bread for toast, wide selection of fruit and yoghurt, full cooked breakfast (2 different sausage), fried and scrambled egg bacon cooked 2 different ways (well done and cooked normal) beans pancakes and selection of bakery items. You could have champagne, cheeses and ham. In my world this is a lot if choice. Lunch also had a good choice. Selection of pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, cooked meats, 3 types of potatoes, salads, pasta, paella etc Dinner also had a very good selection. Chicken curry, beef stew, cooked meats,fish to name a few. OK so puddings are a always a bid weird on holiday but overall they were quite nice. We never had an issue and nor did my 5 year old at meal times. The bars could get a little busy but never anything major, maybe 5 to 10 mins on an odd occasion. The pools are lovely and very big with walk in steps which always makes things easier. We sat by the saltwater pool as my daughter had a rubber ring and you cant have floating aids in main pool as its an nfinity pool, the saltwater pool was a little quieter so this was our preference. OK so sunbed wars is a bit of a thing but as long as you dont mind getting up to pop your towels on then its really not an issue, not as busy around saltwater pool, my husband put our towels on about 7am (lets be honest we have all been doing this for years, its almost part of the holiday tradition 😆) My daughter loved the kids club, the activities were brilliant, T-shirt painting, jewelry making, coloured salt bottles, arts and crafts etc. I stayed with my 5 year old and you could see how wonderful the staff were. Overall we had a fabulous stay and won't hesitate to return. The staff are lovely, rooms spacious and clean, pools great, food plentiful and tasty and weather brilliant, what more do you want.

“A reasonable holiday with notable room for improvement”

We recently returned from an 11 day stay at Hotel Costa Calero. Overall, it was a mostly enjoyable holiday with fantastic grounds, great entertainment, and a nice location, though a few operational frustrations mean I likely wouldn’t return until a couple of core issues are addressed. Location & Accessibility Convenient Transfer: The location is fantastic, a painless 10 to 15 minute transfer from Lanzarote Airport. Local Area: A quick 5 minute walk brings you down to Puerto Calero, a beautiful small harbor with excellent places to eat and drink. The hotel sits on a hill, so the walk back is a bit steep, though totally manageable if you’re in decent shape. Puerto del Carmen is a 10 minute taxi ride away (walking it isn't ideal as there isn't a proper path or anything along the route). Hotel Layout: The resort itself is vast and spread across multiple levels with a lot of steps. If you have mobility issues or accessibility needs, this layout will be quite challenging to navigate. Pools & The Infamous "Sunbed Wars" The hotel features three good sized, very pleasant pools. However, the sunbed situation here is an absolute nightmare. I’ve traveled extensively across many countries, and this was by far the worst "sunbed wars" I have ever experienced. Despite what management might reply to reviews, the hotel does not enforce any policy. The main/top pool is where all the action is, but it’s virtually impossible to get a bed unless you are up at 5:00 AM. I came to relax, but to avoid lying on the floor, I had to set a 7:00 AM alarm every day just to claim beds on the grass area by the bottom pool. Other than the absurd morning rush, the pools themselves are great. Grounds, Staff & Entertainment Resort Grounds: Absolutely stunning. The grounds team works tirelessly to keep the beautiful plants and features in tip-top shape. Entertainment Team: 10/10. They work around the clock offering a huge variety of activities (I thoroughly enjoyed the archery, shooting, and darts, which were brilliant for chatting with other guests). Their ability to remember guest names is very impressive! Housekeeping: Generally fine,fresh towels, daily linen changes, and a floor mop. They occasionally missed restocking the minibar or coffee pods, but reception resolved it promptly whenever we called. Dining & Drinks Food overall was average, neither amazing nor terrible, but it suffered from a bit of monotony over 11 days. Breakfast: Standard spread of meats, cheeses, eggs, "fry up", fruit, and yogurt. The pastry selection was a letdown (seemed like frozen, baked-off produce rather than fresh), and there was zero variation day to day. Lunch: Served outdoors in a canteen style setup that feels dated and tired (though I hear an upgrade is due). Service here was chaotic; dirty plates piled up on tables while guests looked for seating, and I even had to clean up a dropped dessert with a tissue after witnessing two waitresses step right over the slip hazard. Dinner: Much better quality and variety than lunch, with far more attentive staff. It would have been nice to see themed nights or a bit more daily variety, though. (There is 1 à la carte restaurant on site, but we weren't able to book) Snacks & Bar Queues: There is a bizarre lack of snacks available outside of meal times (pretty much just ham and cheese toasties). Furthermore, bar queues were painfully long, often 15 to 20 people deep in the evening hub. This isn't the fault of the hard working bartenders, but rather a clear issue with understaffing. A suggestion for the management team is to open to bottom pool bar at 10am, there's significant demand beyond a basic water machine.. The "Prestige" Experience: Is It Worth It? We upgraded to the Prestige package, and honestly, it felt like one of the most pretentious packages I’ve encountered. The Perks: You get access to a private lounge with a good self serve alcohol selection (though the snacks were just peanuts or leftover breakfast/lunch bits), a nice superior sea view room (bright, airy, great views, though not clear what made it "superior"), and daily minibar/coffee restocking (when they remembered). We were excluded from many of the perks simply because we had a child with us which is an issue I will address with Jet2. Prestige also gives you a queue jump line at the evening bar and a separate dining area behind a big red rope. We actively avoided the segregated dining area because the whole concept felt unnecessarily divisive and odd. Unless you enjoy waltzing around thinking you're a Monte Carlo millionaire (as many prestige guests did .) , I wouldn't bother paying extra for it. I did witness non prestige guests que jumping in the prestige fast track line and tipped the bar tender 10 euro for the privilege. No qualms with this, faster for the guest and a little extra for the bar staff but the fact guests are willing to pay 10 euro when already all inclusive shows the desperation to avoid the ques. The Spa: A huge highlight of the package! The spa is fantastic with great jet beds, seats, a steam room, plunge pool, and secure lockers. The indoor decor is a bit dark and dated, but the facilities themselves are top notch. Final Verdict If you don't mind getting up at the crack of dawn for a sunbed, waiting an eternity at the bar, and dealing with fairly standard buffet fare, Costa Calero offers a really fun holiday in a beautiful setting. However, until they address the staffing shortages and enforce a sunbed policy, I’ll likely be looking elsewhere for my next trip.
