I am running out of superlatives to describe the wonderful staff and service delivered at the Hotel Lava Beach. I am 2.5 weeks into my latest stay which is three weeks long, and I can say without fear of contradiction every day in the hotel has been a joy. My greeting on arrival was the usual glass of champagne and hugs from the reception team as they welcomed me as a repeat guest, what I was not expecting was my room decorated with balloons, champagne and cakes to celebrate my 70th birthday which had been the day before I arrived. The staff are meticulous in planning and executing for the needs of their guests, whether it be Nicole Winkler as a Director of the hotel or someone like Nadia who is just two days with the hotel, the exemplary manner that staff look after their guests is unparalleled. I have said in a previous review that familiarity at the Hotel Lava Beach breeds contentment and nothing I have seen or experienced since I originally wrote this changes my view. The staff are superb led by Nicole, Stella, Elisa and Laura, supported in the bars and restaurants by Christian, Maria, Kamal, Camila, Melody, Desiree, Fabiana, Joan, Mohammed, each and every one of these people deliver service excellence every time they come on duty. As if to reinforce my positive view of the hotel, Elisa has just invited me to take part in a photo shoot for the hotel website after I jokingly complained on a previous visit that some world-famous author had stayed at the hotel and featured on the website. “What about me,” I whined, “15 books and counting must mean something.” In reality his books sell millions, mine I give away to friends and people whose identity I have stolen to become a character in my crime novels, people such as Elisa who is a Detective Inspector in my books when she is not moonlighting at the Hotel Lava Beach 😂😂😂 Cannot recommend this hotel enough, if only for the hilarious reception team of the Christina’s, Zsofia and Rafa and the fact that Marcia has a brilliant Abba playlist for her Aqua Aerobics. 😃😃😃

We booked The Lava Beach hotel to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary, and what a fabulous decision this was. We booked a 12 night b&b stay in a junior suite overlooking the pool, faultless in every way. What we found at the hotel was no matter who you spoke to, everyone on the hotel staff had a smile for you & we were made to feel very special. The standards of the hotel are indeed 5 Star. The cleanliness of the hotel is hard to believe with a lovely pool area & plenty of sun beds. Loved the way that the sun beds were checked to ensure no one could reserve them with towels. Great food & service around the pool area. Good quality breakfasts with a wide range of food. Nice hotel gym, piano bar & the hotel grounds leading to the shore line well designed with a paddle court & golf available. One of the thing’s that stood out for me was the hotel manager was always on hand and not afraid to lend a hand with the running of the hotel. What amazed me regarding Lara beach was when you spoke to most of the clientele most of these people where returning customers of 5 or 6 times, to me that says everything. I wouldn’t single anyone out on the staff as they were all great & professional. Overall our break was faultless & we were that impressed, we have already booked again . Just back after 2 weeks at the Lava Beach and I would highly recommend it. There are many many pros: Staff are excellent particularly at reception,breakfast and cleaning. Pool was excellent ,my wife loved the water aerobics. Acts at night were very good especially the cello and singer act. We had a room just above reception with an excellent balcony and sea view Area around hotel has an excellent selection of restaurants. 2 small gripes bathroom layout is mad and getting in and out of the bath could be an Olympic sport and secondly there were an elderly English couple staying in the hotel who seemed to think they owned the pool and used to get very upset that other guests dared to use their pool for the Aqua Aerobics. We will be back

We travelled over the Easter 2026 period to this hotel. We had walked past it previously when staying in the area and thought we would treat ourselves. On arrival at reception we were greeted by our names and checking in was smooth with a glass of OJ or cava. Our luggage was taken to the room and we were shown the room amenities. We had chosen a Junior Suite with a pool view. The room was nice and modern and very clean. There was no full length mirror and no plug socket by the dressing table or the short mirror. There was only a socket in the bathroom by the mirror. Also no iron in the room. Our room had a jacuzzi bath with a shower over it. It was extremely tricky to enter and exit the bath to use the shower (we are only in our 50’s and fully fit and healthy!) The glass panel that allows anyone to see straight in to the bathroom from the patio doors- is a very strange design choice! (We were on the ground floor meaning everyone at the pool could see in!) Bathrobes and slippers provided as well as a hairdryer and straightener's - which is a nice touch. Our room had a kettle and a small coffee machine. You only get 6 coffee pods included and then you have to purchase more ! I would expect these to be replenished daily in a 5star hotel. The fridge had wine, and a few soft drinks and also 2 bottles of water (that were replaced daily) Staff on the reception were lovely and polite. We also appreciated the bottle left in the room as it was our anniversary. We both used the spa and sound them very helpful and the treatments were not badly priced and were great. Service from the pool bar staff was slow at times. They put buzzers on the tables by the sunbeds at about 12 midday (missed our table out twice) for service, on the odd time we got one (and pressed it!) it was hit and miss if anyone came. Breakfast choice was amazing and all good quality. The fresh cooked omelettes were lovely. Overall, it was a nice hotel, no problems getting a sunbed, but as it is a 5 star we expected more. No turndown service either and rooms cleaned quite late in the day. We love Matagorda and will definitely come back to the area, but we probably wouldn’t stay in this hotel again.
