Just Home from 4 nights at the hotel . Hotel is really clean and tidy, we had house keeping every day can’t fault. Like myself I was a bit dubious about Gluten free food but , the gluten free options were fab,on the first night I had to fill in an allergy sheet and was spoken through what happens, when you go in you ask for the designated member of staff who is solely in charge of allergens . When your room card is scanned it comes up that someone in that room has an allergy. Could not fault the options and the process. If some other things had been explained it would have definitely been 5 stars. You need to scan your room card at each and every transaction which accumulates points that you get off at the end of purchase at the end of the week. Overall pretty good stay

“Nice stay”

Booked Gold River rather than El Paso based on reviews. Stayed on a half board basis for 4 nights. Booked Gold River rather than El Paso based on reviews. Stayed on a half board basis for 4 nights. Booked a standard room, but was seemingly upgraded to a family room (perhaps the hotel was not at full capacity?). The theme of the hotel is incredible and attention to detail is great. Direct access to park is a god send for coming back to the room during the day. Food - buffet was ok. Not great but ok. You have to pay for drinks at the buffet, even soft drinks, but on three of our four nights we fined at different restaurants (using a QR code you can download) and we ordered drinks and when we settled up, the whole bill was covered. Food inside the park is a lower quality. Hotel - you have to pay a €15 refundable deposit for pool towels, but also €2 per towel to rent. Lockers are available at the hotel if you arrive before check in or leave hours after check out - these are €6 per use. Room - we had a kitchenette with a microwave, fridge and cupboards BUT no kettle, no tea/coffee, no plates, glasses, cutlery, nothing. Kitchen is a bit useless unless you bring your own. Supermarket is 20-25 min walk away and the only safe route through is to walk through the park to main entrance, then back on yourself to the supermarket. Maintenence - we found a door, which was actually a fire escape door, that didn't open from inside. A used babies nappy was discarded in the stairwell by our room and was still there 5 days later, small issues that wouldn't prevent you from booking but were noticeable. Evenings - absolutely nothing to do, nothing going on, bar brightly lit, pool closed at 7pm, no entertainment, parks closed at 6pm, so after dinner there was nothing. Salou is 20 mins walk away but bus stops in evening and taxi back is €15. Interestingly at the parks and hotel, a Coca Cola is €4 and so is a glass of wine! Caribe Waterpark - tickets are normally €31 per adult but as a hotel guest you can get them for €26. Food at the water park seemed more reasonably priced, but lockers are €8 per locker, but that is a one off payment and can access all day. Overall, enjoyed a stay here. 4 nights was too long. Maybe in July and August it will be different as more shows are open, parks open for longer etc

We stayed in the El Paso many years ago but decided we would like the Gold River for our return due to its theming and closeness to the park. There was no air conditioning in the grand hall, the reception areas or the bar. It was very hot on our visit and with World Cup on, we were hoping to catch some matches, but they have 2 TVs in bar, but only the smaller TV showing some of the matches but not all, and won't put them on if asked, even though no one else in bar. The heat expecially in the bar was terrible, with fans on the staff but nothing for customers, service was slow and not very welcoming in this area. The reception staff were very nice and helped where they can, when we had a problem in our bathroom, they made sure it was fixed after our 3rd call at 10pm. The buffet was very below par, the food was not good and with it costing €17-25 for a taxi into Salou, it turned into an expensive trip. The queues into buffet hall were never a problem and moved quickly, with the staff in this area very nice and helpful. On our last night there was a large group of teenagers (20+) staying and we were unfortunate to arrive in at the same time as them to eat, no one seemed to be in charge of them, which left them blocking the food, grabbing at everything leaving a mess for the poor staff and leaving everyone else frustrated and more Hungary that usual. The shop was expensive, like the park, but staff in here were again pleasant to deal with. The cleaning staff were to call every second day, but seemingly called nearly every day, at different times, knocked and walked in one afternoon as we were lying down which left us uncomfortable. Also be aware, I don't get bites but ended up with 30 + bites, so come prepared, ended up taking a trip to salou for pharmacy to treat. Some plus points - the air con in the room was excellent, room was spacious and bed comfortable. The pool area was good and pools very nice when they weren't being closed intermittently as PH balance was off, which happened 4 times when we were at them. The pool bar was nice, food good and prices from €19 for burger and chips. Unfortunately for the price we paid, we feel that the gold river was not good value and unfortunately would not return.
