“A must read before booking - not all bad :) Hopefully Helpful.”

Firstly, I want to tell you some things that we would have found useful before going and then some positives. Firstly, I want to tell you some things that we would have found useful before going and then some positives. Depending on your transport arrangements, if you have a coach transfer they can't get to the hotel, this is due to the one way street it is on to the beach. We were dropped at the bottom of a hill at 3am and the driver just pointed up the hill to the direction we had to walk. Thankfully we only had 1 large suitcase between us and a couple of rucksacks. You also have to make your way back to this point for pick up, so we were walking our stuff there at 2am today. It was a little unnerving being left in an unknown location with no idea where the hotel was upon arrival. The hotel itself is wheelchair accessible everywhere, including the rooftop adult only pool area, but the surrounding area is not incredibly wheelchair friendly, private transfer to the door of the hotel would be needed. The beds - if you have a double, I don't know if other rooms have actual doubles, but ours was two singles pushed together made up as two singles pushed together, which was fine but this wasn't sturdy and so one of us kept getting wedged in the gap. The following morning we moved the mattresses horizontal across the bed, this did help. They were very firm, relatively comfortable. Food - we were half board, the lunchtime options are not extensive, as most of the time what was on the basic menu was not available. The pizza was nice although I did have to send it back to be cooked properly. Evening meals, there was generally a range to choose from, but nothing piping hot, cold plates, no plate warmers and the food is cooked through but not hot to enjoy fully. The meat was very tough, the best meal I had was the chicken meatballs, but the pasta was undercooked, so just had this with some bread and butter. The spring rolls were lovely too. Don't dress for dinner, shorts and t-shirt all the way, noone makes an effort in the dining room as I found out night 1 :) I wasn't worried I looked fabulous! hahah! Breakfast, again nothing really hot as nothing seems to be on proper hot plates or in warmers that actually heat and the plates are all cold to put your food on. I did love the fried eggs though, each one was sunny side up and runny yolk, none of the rubber messes you usually get. Do not try to take a cheeky croissant out of the dining room, if you are caught you are told to put it on the table by the door, they would rather throw it away than let you take a little snack back to your room. I understand they don't want people walking out with full packed lunches for the day, but the odd cookie or pastry to have a bit later surely wouldn't be a big issue, I've not had this strict rule issued in other hotels, but we were firmly told to put the small napkin wrapped pastry on the side before leaving. Drinks - TINY tea and coffee by the pool. Around £2 for a tea or a coffee, but these are the size of the babyccino you'd get from costa or nero. If you are a tea drinker this is most unsatisfying and gets expensive. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room - you can HIRE a kettle for I think she said 6 euro a day! But you provide your own tea and coffee. I would have done this if it was leave a 20 euro deposit and you get it back if you return the kettle in full working order but around £5 a day to hire a kettle, just for a tea in the morning, no thank you. Disappointing. HOWEVER, the hotel was beautifully clean, looks well kept and maintained. The bedroom was cleaned every day and the beds made. Fresh towels every day as well, even though we hung them up and didn't ask for new. The shower was incredible, excellent water pressure and lots of hot water, never ran out. Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided. The main pool was lovely with views of the sea, and easy access to the pool bar and snacks. There were easily accessible toilets right near the pool as well, and the sun loungers were in good condition and relatively comfortable, for a sun lounger. If you are not travelling with children then you MUST take advantage of the adults only rooftop pool. This is 10 euro per person per day, but you do get a free drink with this purchase of either fruit juice or proscecco. They don't serve tea up top but do the tiny coffees for a little more money than downstairs, you are not allowed to drink anything from downstairs up on the roof, all purchases must be made in the adult only section. You can ask for tap water, to keep hydrated. They would benefit from a water cooler so guest could just help themselves though. The double sun loungers are so comfortable, like memory foam type mattress. We wanted to take it back to our room. The music is not too loud, it's quiet, beautiful, and the views are absolutely stunning. It opens at 11am and you can stay there all day for your 10 euro. The sunset from up here is wonderful and we had the pleasure of witnessing (and filming for them) a proposal while we were there. Such a beautiful location for romance. So, for a budget holiday I would say it's a really lovely hotel with great views and the staff are really very helpful and friendly (unless you are trying to get away with a snack after breakfast) You can buy 2ltr of water from the reception desk for 2 euro but cash only for that. There is a supermarket across the road. If you aren't fussy for fancy food, then do book the Cala Font Hotel. The location, sea facing, is beautiful. We had a 4 night 3 day stay there, for me that was enough, but the memory of those sunsets from that rooftop will keep me going through our dreary winter months. The hotel is situated in a lovely area and built into the hillside overlooking a lovely bay. The staff are friendly and obliging. Although some areas need a little tlc the hotel and rooms are kept clean and tidy. Now some niggles - you have to rent a kettle and there is no tea and coffee - things I would expect to be complimentary. Although adequate the food is a little samey and also a bit rustic. The dining area can get busy at times which is made worse by the position of some of the food stations near to the entrance/exit. The rooftop pool has to be booked and is additional cost. All things considered it was a reasonable stay but would not go again despite the wonderful position of the hotel.

We were looking forward to some October sun to set us up for winter and this hotel looked ideal on the TUI website. Unfortunately we were given a room at the side of the hotel on the 3rd floor that was miserable and always dark because it was about 30ft below ground level and looked out onto a muddy dirty wall and chain link fence I felt like a prisoner of war it was so depressing. If we were aware there were rooms like this we would have paid TUI for a room like they show in their advertising but TUI had only one room type when we vooked and it didn't mention this type of depressing room. 2 days of complaining got us nowhere but after complaining to TUI themselves we were moved to a lovely room on the same side of the hotel but above ground level and this got lovely sunlight in the afternoon so we were doing nally able to sit in the sun and have an evening drink on the balcony. The hotel itself is lovely and right be a sandy beach but as we were there for 14 nights the food after a few days got tedious and was often cold or warm at best. The location of the hotel I feel should also be mentioned in Tui's website that it really isn't suitable for people with mobility issues as it's extremely hilly and even though me and my wife enjoy long walks the hills got a bit tedious after a while but we're in our early 60s. Would we stay here again? I'm afraid it's a no. But for younger people especially with children who love the beach this may be a great location for a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of Salou, also worth noting the area around this hotel only has a few bars and one proper supermarket so it's really quiet compared to Salou itself.
