We have just returned from 5 nights staying at Villa Romana, overall we had a pleasant stay and my kids had an amazing time. Positives - The animation team were absolutely brilliant and made our holiday. My 2 boys loved Raul and, he made such a fuss of them and my boys were so sad to say bye to him. Raul even came to meet us at reception to say goodbye as we were waiting for our coach to leave. There were many games held throughout the day including wipe out which was very funny to watch. - Rooms were clean, comfy beds, good air con, nice bathroom and decent sized balcony. - Splash park was fun as were the water slides. - We found the food to be good, but likely would have got a little bored of the choices if we had stayed any longer. - Good location with supermarkets nearby and walkable distance to the promenade and beach. Negatives - The sun bed situation in the morning was a nightmare, adults pushing and shoving whilst queuing to wait for the doors to open with everyone running to get out to claim a sun bed as soon as the doors opened. There doesn’t seem to be enough sun beds for the volume of guests and there is a lack of parasols. - Long queues to get a drink at the indoor and outdoor bar. - Lengthy queues to get in the restaurant at breakfast and dinner. - Pool is extremely busy (but it is summer holidays)

Just back from a short stay at Villa Romania. Hotel itself is lovely and clean and rooms were modern in design. Check in 2pm..we arrived at 12 so we had to keep luggage in a locked room till ours was ready. We were half board . Food was nice and tasty if a little repetitive at times. The poolside was extremely busy and the sunbed dash in the morning is no joke. Grown men running like their lives depending on it made me laugh. Lifeguards did check if beds weren't occupied for a while and removed towels..which I think is spot on! Pool bar queue got quite lengthy at times and only 1 member of staff on sometimes. Overall the staff worked incredibly hard ,.a.credit to them. And the distance to Salou centre was great.

“Sunbed wars in full swing...”

Lovely hotel room, which seemed recently renovated and had huge, comfy beds. The aircon was great and strong enough that we all got a bit nippy in the night! The room had a mini fridge but no tea/coffee making facilities, which would have been a great addition. The TV was a smart TV which had loads of shows available for kids, which was great for post-pool downtime. The restaurant food was nice and well cooked but lacked variety. The staff were very efficient in replenishing and tidying up. The poolside bar was quite slow in service for food, too. Staff on the whole were friendly, especially the cleaners who were lovely. What let the hotel down was the space around the pool. The availability of sunbeds was abysmal. You had to be there before 8am to get sunbeds, and the viral videos are true... There were literally people sprinting to get their preferred spots! We saw people kicking off at each other for taking their space, and the poor lifeguards regularly got an ear-full for removing towels from reserved and unused beds. I've never seen anything like it. There aren't enough parasols so we ended up buying a parasol for €14 from a shop near the beach, which we slotted in the back of our sunbed to give our kids some shade. During busy periods, there was limited space to move in the pool. Especially when they had inflatable slides out/water polo games on. Overall, we had a great stay and we made some lovely memories. The hotel just needs to rethink the outside space, where people spend most of the day.

Recently returned from a 10 day stay at Villa Romana with two children 9yrs and 12yrs. We had a lovely holiday with this being our second stay at this hotel. Sadly we probably won’t return to this hotel. Positives: Entertainment team were fantastic. Pool and slides are brilliant, my children had the best time, it was busy but to be expected. Rooms were modern, air conditioning was great for us, safe available which we paid to hire, enough storage space, balcony was a good size with space to hang clothes/towels, smart TV in room worked well and most importantly the beds were very comfortable. Rooms were cleaned daily to a great standard and towels changed daily. Staff work extremely hard in this hotel. Pool bar food was lovely. Hotel shop was cute, reasonably priced and sold really good gifts. Think my children bought all the bracelets. Location was brilliant, short walk to Portaventura and to the beach/main strips. Taxis available to order through reception. Beach’s days were fantastic as we could have a lye in and stroll down to the beach at our own pleasure. For 2 loungers and a parasol it cost 30 euros at the beach. Beach bars also open on evenings which was beautiful to relax at with a few drinks too. Negatives: Sun lounger wars was quite the show. We had to queue about 7.45am for 8am opening and we always got Sun loungers at the pool side. On one day I went to get Sun loungers and as I was about to put a towel down another parent had sent their two young children to dive on the beds I was about to use which I thought was absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing. I just moved to another few loungers no issues. I continued to watch this other Dad on other mornings pull the same trick for the same loungers, this must have been very stressful for him lol. Also there are not enough parasols at the pool side. Lifeguards leave warning notes about 10am for loungers unattended and returned 20 minutes later to remove the towels. This did not happen later in the day. We were half board and food was awful. None of us are fussy eaters but it was not good and mostly the same. We ate out a lot. We have been previously to this hotel and it was always ok. We did not have high expectations but this was poor. Waiting times for drinks/food during the day was really bad, not due to the staff themselves as they worked so hard but because there was not enough of them sadly. I would definitely recommend Portaventura during the evening and Aquopolis water park. We visited Ferrari Land but thought it was rubbish and were back the hotel 2 hours later. Taxis cost 35 euros each way to/from airport. We would recommend food from Michael Angelos for baguettes, Rock & Grill and La Sangria Grill and Bar. We ate at the Roadhouse after reading great reviews, we had to make a reservation but we did not rate it, it was overpriced and not great at all. We love Salou and every time we go the place gets better with more shops and restaurants but the hotel for us this time let us down.
