We are just back from a 4 night stay at the R2 Bahia Kontiki and what a wonderful stay we had. We were in room 3206 which had a side view of the sea and wasn’t too far up “Cardiac Hill” The balcony was slightly smaller than others but it did us fine. The room was spotless, spacious and well equipped. Nice modern decor and the shower was out of this world (we felt a bit sad coming back to our less than adequate one at home haha!) Loved the fun aprons in the kitchen, great little touch! There was also a chill out area just outside our room where there were also plenty of beds and large parasols. The pool are is lovely too, I would say there maybe isn’t enough beds for the amount of rooms in the complex but saying that we always managed to get beds. People seemed to leave/take their belongings at various points of the day which freed some up. It was certainly a more relaxed experience getting a lounger than other holidays we’ve been on. There was a good number of parasols available too which we found we really needed this time round. The only thing we missed, which comes down to personal preference, was music by the pool. It was lovely and peaceful but we do enjoy a bit of background music. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly and happy to help from the reception staff, bar staff, cleaners, gardeners to the life guards at the pool side. One cleaner would hum the rocky theme tune as we made our way up the many stairs which we thoroughly enjoyed. On the topic of “cardiac hill” I would say the complex may be a struggle for people with mobility issues/buggies. The hill is aptly named, there are stairs to get to some rooms and to the pool area depending on which room you are staying in. This wasn’t an issue for us/we managed the hill fine. It wouldn’t put us off staying again but something to consider. Kontiki is in a great location. You couldn’t be closer to the beach and the strip is also right on the doorstep. Even though our room was close to some bars, it didn’t keep us up at night. There were loads of nice restaurants, shops, cafes and bars near by, you really are spoiled for choice. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we wouldn’t hesitate to come back again or recommend to friends looking for a relaxing break. Sorry, no pictures from the room which would have been helpful.

We (couple) have just returned from a 5 night stay, we opted for SC However ate out so can’t comment on the hotel food. The hotel is beautifully maintained, lovely pool area and another ‘chill out’ area with sea views. Staff were so welcoming and really friendly. We had a one bed apartment which was spacious and very clean. You are suppled with all the equipment to cook/eat. There is a TV in the lounge and bedroom with some British channels. The bathroom had a fab power shower and the bedroom had plenty of storage, some little reading lights, blackout curtains and robes were supplied too. Cleaners come every 2 days and do a great job. There are plenty of sun loungers and good to see staff would remove any towels (especially first thing in the morning) that had ‘reserved’ the beds and placed them on a nearby wall for collection. The hotel is situated on a short but steep hill (cardiac hill) which you get use to however may not be suitable for people with mobility issues. There are a couple of shops very close by and the hotel itself is a 2 minute walk straight on the strip with plenty of bars, shops and restaurants. You do have to pay for a safe, which is the norm however this is the first place we have been charged for WiFi which was €2 a day for 2 devices and wasn’t always the best. Overall it was just such a peaceful place to be and had such a relaxing time. We would like to thank all the staff for a wonderful stay and has been one of the best hotels we have stayed at so far and would definitely return.

We have just returned from 10 nights at R2 Bahai Kontiki. We’re a family of 4 with 2 kids (9yrs + 11yrs) and we really enjoyed our stay here. Our apartment (3105) was located on the bottom tier which was great. We only had to climb the 53 steps or cardiac hill if we were going to the pool or Biosfera shopping centre. Otherwise, it’s turn right for Mercadona supermarket, chica beach & old town or left for new strip & beach. The location can’t be beat. There appears to a lot more double rooms than family rooms so the hotel the majority of occupants are couples. Given this, there are no kids clubs but that suites our children’s ages. The deco is modern and reflects the photos we found online. The kitchen has a fridge, washing machine, microwave oven, hob (no dishwasher). You even get a dishcloth, tea towel, washing up liquid, ice cube tray and bin liners as nice little touches. Room service is every 2 days feels about right; fresh towels and floors swept each time. A really nice touch was being greeted by staff singing at our apartment on the morning of our daughter’s birthday. A card, chocolate cake & non-alcoholic wine was in hand. I can only assume they noticed her DOB on her passport when we checked in. Very impressed!! Whilst overall, our stay was good, there are still room for improvements….. Wifi - €2.50/day for 2 devices! Who charges for WIFI nowadays?? Whether you’re at the airport or McDonald’s, this is always free. Furthermore, I can get 25mb download speed when I step outside of my apartment or by the pool but when I step inside my room or the restaurant, it drops to less than 1mb. Coincidence or signal blockers to encourage paying for WIFI…. you decide. Air conditioning - we set the air con to 10C but the reality is that the lowest it can reach is 24C. This is great when it’s 35C outside because you feel the difference walking in. However, 24C is too hot and uncomfortable when trying to sleep at night. The reception staff were attentive and sent an engineer immediately. A device into the A/C unit and they explained it was reading 13C at source so they happy. However, there wasn’t any flow. When I placed my hand against the vents, I felt nothing. An asthmatic flea would more effect. A portable air con unit was promised but not delivered. We asked where this was every day for 3 consecutive days but we gave up in the end. Shower - cold water pressure is good but hot is very poor. You have a decision to make, a cold shower with reasonable pressure or a warm shower with one of the worst shower pressures I’ve ever seen. To put this into context, if I pointed the shower head to the ceiling, the water pressure wasn’t enough the reach 3-4” inches high. Beds - the mattresses are ‘firm’ and pillows ‘wafer thin’. After the first night, we requested 4 extra pillows which we used to double up to a standard pillow height. We slept much better after this. You can feel every movement with the firm mattress. If you fidget in your sleep, the other will know about it. It took a while to adjust. cleanliness - upon arrival, we slipped off our shoes and began unpacking. When we finished, we removed our white socks and they were brown underneath. Whilst the room looked clean, it clearly wasn’t as clean as we’d hoped. My other half found hairs in a few corners of the room. Whilst it didn’t bother me too much, it lowered the first impressions upon arrival. Pool - the pool and surrounding area is immaculate. Good luck getting a sun lounger around the pool though! The pool was always quiet as were the number of people around the pool and sun terrace area. However, we never managed to secure a sun bed next to the pool In the 10 days we were there. It’s a sad culture that is allowed to happen, empty sun loungers with towels secured by someone who turns up for an hour or so in the afternoon. The pool closes at 6pm; this is too early. it’s still hot at 6pm & the sun doesn’t set until 8:30pm. Our kids weren’t ready to leave on some days. Neighbouring hotel pools were open much later to our kids dismay. Hotel bar - Some hotel photos show the multicoloured tables lit up on the terrace at night. We envisaged being sat here on an evening with a drink but the tables were never illuminated and the bar closed early at 8pm every day. The sun sets at 8:30pm?? If these points were addressed, this hotel would be 10/10. Most of my points are easy to achieve & are repeated time & time again throughout other reviews. It’s frustrating why management don’t take these points on board. If nothing changes then nothing changes. Overall, I would recommend but I would suggest looking at other hotels if any of the points mentioned above are deal breakers.
