“Superb hotel”

This was our third consecutive visit to this lovely hotel, each time in late April, to take advantage of the great weather for hiking. We find the welcome here second to none - delightful staff at Reception, in the restaurants at dinner and breakfast, with excellent service from the cleaning and maintenance team. We have a preferred room away from the front which is quiet and spacious; this cannot be guaranteed but was available to us again this year. We book the half-board option, which is terrific value for money. Apart from the wonderful staff, the highlight of the hotel for us is the food - everything from the extensive choice of warm, fresh breads and rolls at each meal, to the imaginative and varied cuisine at dinner. This year there is an unchanging à la carte menu at dinner supplemented by daily options. So there is plenty to choose from over a week. The chef has a sublime touch with fish: our advice would be, if in doubt, select one of the fish dishes from the main menu or the supplemental list. The starters and desserts are also great; my husband was slightly disappointed with the grilled vegetable starter (a little dull), but otherwise everything we chose was lovely. Our default dessert was the rich chocolate mousse, in common, we suspect, with most of the guests who came to Sóller for the hiking or biking. And finally the wine: we stuck to our favourite whites - the Nounat cuvée and the Son Prim white Malbec - both just superb, and still very reasonably priced compared with wines of similar quality in the Alps. Sóller is an excellent base for all-day hikes, but be warned that, even before high season, the buses fill up fast and only occasionally are there extras to pick up the overflow. We have taken to catching an early bus down to the Port in order to be confident of making the very popular 203 to Deià, Valldemossa and beyond and the 204 to Palma (to connect with buses from Palma to other hiking routes). And the same problem arises on return journeys. The hotel has two swimming pools, one inside in the spa area downstairs and one on the roof. We haven’t used these or indeed any of the spa facilities, but they look rather fine! We shall definitely return next year.

On 23 January 2020, the new Balearic Law against Tourism Excesses entered into force, which prohibits all-inclusive deals with unlimited alcoholic beverages. Only a maximum of three alcoholic beverages per guest will be served during lunch and/or dinner.
