If you're looking for Steak/swordfish, chips and salad, I'm sure you'd get it, but the strength of this place IMHO is the typically spanish cuisine. There are a wide selection of wines which is confusing because the labels are not well known. But the waiter picked me a lovely regional wine after I told him how much I wanted to spend. People were also drinking beer.. We ate tapas. It was in a different class to what I've had before. Beautifully cooked and reasonably priced. The waiters were quiet and efficient. The restaurant was full of Spanish people, singles, couples and groups, enjoying the food. The toilets were modern and spotless. A really good evening.

Just off the A31 Murcia Cartagena road is a sign for Banos y Mendigo. Take that exit and prepare to find that you really are in Spain. My review is of the restaurant adjacent the hotel. Banos is a small village and at its heart is a restaurant which doubles as an enoteca, delicatessen, bakery, butcher and serves some of the best food we have found in the past 10 years. Fine dining it is not. You can find that in Murcia, Cartagena and elsewhere locally if you want it. However what they do offer is top quality regional specialities, locally produced. They produce their own meat, bake superb bread, stock wine you won’t find in a supermarket. There is a long tapas bar- cold and hot sections. Bag a seat there and watch freshly prepared tapas emerge from the kitchen. Try to go reasonably early for tapas. We go most days just to remind ourselves we are in Spain and enjoy the buzz. They have a large restaurant split into two sections. One seems to be mainly used for celebrations and more than once I have wanted to jump,up,and join in but my Spanish isn’t quite good enough yet! The other side is a more conventional set up. The menu is comprehensive. The food is fresh and excellent. The service is fantastic. No one needs to be a perfect Spanish speaker to navigate menus in Spanish.Just show a bit of respect for the fact you are in SPAIN. I get by with lots of smiles and the Spanish I have learned so far. No one cares if you make a mistake. Then there is the food. If you want egg and chips, don’t bother. There are plenty of disagreeable fast food joints in nearby. You could gorge on wonderful tapas,a glass of good wine/ beer for the price of a greasy burger. If you want to experience great flavours, a good glass of wine/beer and soak up the buzz then do it. We sometimes eat in the restaurant that adjoins the bar. At busy times we book. People from Murcia know all about this place; it’s very accessible for them. We have had some great meals there. I suppose it’s horses for courses but we live to eat and and if that’s you you will not be disappointed. The staff are great. The service is slick. The owner really cares about food. He is passionate about this family business and it shows. Perhaps I should be selfish and keep it secreto. Judging by its lack of prominence on the’ top restaurants in Murcia’ on this site it really is. They don’t need TripAdvisor reviews and increasingly neither do I.

“Perfect for a stop over”

Lovely clean hotel not far from the airport, good for a stopover for late or early flights, could do with a new mattress in our room, but that’s the only criticism other than that it’s super, non English speaking so brush up on your Spanish as it makes things a bit easier

Considering the price we were not expecting the Hilton, however we did expect cleanliness. Unfortunately this hotel lacked that. Considering we are both as bald as a bald eagle there were long dark hairs all over the place. At first I thought that the tiles were cracked. The whole room could have done with a wipe with a damp cloth and a good broom. The price reflected the decor as well. The Tv was that small you had to sit up close to see it. Also the bed creaked with just one person on it let alone two. Some of the furniture was designed for a larger room as we weren’t able to use the light switches beside the bed as they were hidden behind the headboard. If you’re after a cheap place just to sleep then this is cheap and convenient to a good restaurant next door, just wear slippers.
