Second year, amazing staff, amazing service, amazing food, tranquil and relaxing, everything you could possibly want. Unsung heroes, the staff managing the rooms impeccably, the more visible heroes, Jessica, Vicky, Mosi ……. BUT and it is a very big BUT…. do you want to get out of bed to get a sunbed at 7am?? Didn’t have to last year, poolside rules state you must not reserve sunbeds, but after my first night I pulled back the curtains to see no sunbeds available in the sunny area of the pool. Nobody on them and to my horror some were not used until lunchtime. Either take the pool rule down OR enforce it, but don’t penalise people who are following the rules and paying a lot of money for the privilege. Spoke to one couple who had to go to the neighbouring hotel to get a bed in the sun. Unsurprisingly they said they wouldn’t be returning. Such an easy thing to rectify but spoke to another couple who had complained to management and were told they simply didn’t seem interested. Shame, because everything else is really perfect

“Very friendly staff”

Extremly friendly staff at the pool, breakfast and at the Italian restaurant. The food was very delicious. A bit disappointing is that you have to book a table far in advance (two days). The location of the hotel is set above the sea and the beach is in a short walking distance.

We’d been looking forward to this, our third visit in 12 months. From the moment, just after midday when we walked from our beautiful ground floor room, into the quiet tranquillity of the terrace to settle on a pair of sunbeds around the wonderfully warm pool, we felt at home. Almost immediately, we recognised and said hello to other returning quests whom we’d met on previous visits, and we were warmly welcomed with smiles and hugs by several staff members who recognised us. The misery of a long, cold, wet English winter melted away as we relaxed in the unique ambiance of Grand Salome. An excellent lunch at Lagarto and evening meal at Poseidon brought friendly reunions with more of the amazing staff and an entertaining show at the theatre finished off a perfect day and set the tone for the rest of our stay - or so we thought. On our first, full day, the peace and tranquillity of Salome disappeared with the arrival of a group of lively young guests. We found respite for an hour at the Aquafit session in Anthelia, the huge, family-friendly, parent hotel next door. The next day there was only one available sunbed around the pool. The pool guy kindly located and carried over another one, but we found ourselves sandwiched between smokers and the excited young party of seven. He explained that the hotel was full, and that he’d never seen the pool area so busy - great news for Iberostar but not so good for us, so we made a strategic withdrawal, walked through to Anthelia and again found two sunbeds in a quiet-ish area. The following day there was not a single sunbed available around the pool so once again we had to leave Salone to find some in Anthelia - OK, but frustrating and not what we paid for. Recent sunbed-reserving issues have been mentioned by others here on TA so I’ll skip the details here. Along with other guests, we reported our concerns to our butlers but nothing seemed to happen until, a few minutes before the arrival of our cab to the airport and home, we had a chance meeting in the foyer with Jordi - an ambitious young butler whom we met on our previous stays but now promoted to Customer Services. He had heard nothing about the sunbed or other issues but listened, apologised and promised to take immediate action. Along with the warm pool and peaceful tranquillity, not having to reserve sunbeds, is one of the box-ticks that brings us back to Grand Salome, so this was a disappointing turn of events that marred three of our seven days holiday. I would like to think that these issues will be swiftly and thoroughly resolved – not least because we have recommended Salome to so many of our friends, and I’m surprised that such a prestigious, five-star resort does not already have and uphold robust and fair pool rules. Maybe we were just unlucky to have chosen an unusually busy time at the hotel for which they were just not prepared. I’d like to return soon because there is nowhere else I’d rather be than Grand Salome at its best. My wife, however, may take a little more convincing.
