“Value accommodation”

Lovely two-bedroom apartment with sea view. Rosa friendly and accommodating. The apartment is spacious, clean, linen and towels good and we were happy to stay there. Apart from not having a kettle everything was satisfactory and enjoyable.

We stayed two nights here in early September. The hostal is very close to the train station and bus stop if you are arriving by public transport. It’s also very close to the seafront and at the bottom of the rather steep hill into the old town. The door was locked when we arrived as reception isn’t manned routinely but someone came to the door and checked us in quickly. I forgot to ask for the WiFi password at check in and didn’t see anyone at reception to ask after that. It’s not printed in reception or in the room so I had to do without. The room itself was clean and comfortable, the air con wasn’t too noisy and the shower had pretty good pressure. We had to go looking for toilet paper ourselves though as there was none put in the bathroom after the room was cleaned on our second day, again we couldn’t find anyone to ask but we found the closet on our floor where they were stored. I booked the room through Booking.com and in the days before arrival got emails stating that the card I used for booking couldn’t be verified by the property, I changed it to two different cards but continued to get the messages (all my cards were working fine in Spain) and upon arrival I paid with the first card with no issues. I then got notification through Booking.com that my reservation had been cancelled – literally 10 minutes after I paid. There was no issue using the room for the duration, I think the property were avoiding paying whatever percentage Booking.com charge them for the reservation. It was a nuisance for me though.

“Great location and a spotlessly clean room & bathroom”

We stayed for two nights at Hostal La Mar. We were greeted by a nice man who kindly took my case up to our room. We stayed for two nights at Hostal La Mar. We were greeted by a nice man who kindly took my case up to our room. The room was large enough, had a big wardrobe and drawers, bedside tables and a chair, as well as a TV and powerpoints. The bathroom was great - newly done with a lovely sink & mixer tap, newly tiled shower cubicle and decent toilet. Towels and liquid soap were provided too. We parked easily in the free 80-space car park at the station just a couple of minutes walk away from the hostal. Our only cricticism was that it was quite noisy - with noise from people in the corridors and the occasional sound of the train vibrating through. However, we still managed to get a good night's sleep. The hostal is located right in the centre of Altea so is fantastic for access to the beach as well as the old part (up the hill).

“Stay in Apartamentos NOT in Hostal - 2 different accommodations 1 building...”

There are 2 properties here - first 2 floors are Hostal La Mar and top 2 floors are Apartamentos La Mar - management is different in both. There are 2 properties here - first 2 floors are Hostal La Mar and top 2 floors are Apartamentos La Mar - management is different in both. We recommend staying in Apartamentos La Mar with Rosa who is very obliging and helpful, her father is wonderful too. Apartment was very clean, private, spacious and had everything needed for a holiday. It is across the road from beach, sea view, free parking and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately Rosa was fully booked for the last night of our stay so we had to change to Hostal La Mar on the ground floor (almost double the nightly price). We do not recommend the Hostal - we had to remove 2 pungent air fresheners from the room which were used to disguise a smell of cigarette smoke. The noise from the next room kept us awake well in to the night. No one was available on the phone number supplied for emergencies. On ringing a bell at reception a night porter arrived and asked our neighbours to be quiet. Train drives by the room. Spiders in room. Stay with Rosa in Apartamentos (which we award 5 stars), not in Hostal (which we award 1 star).
