Excellent hotel situated about 10 minutes walk from the town. Really friendly staff and the restaurant food is very good too. Hotel very clean and comfortable

Lovely location close to Altea old town. Access road to hotel was a little rough and steep. Room was good with great views of the mountains and sea. Lovely location close to Altea old town. Access road to hotel was a little rough and steep. Room was good with great views of the mountains and sea. Bed was very comfortable, but bathroom was a little tired,but a very good size with plenty of room for wash bags etc. Great vaule with breakfast included at 53e per person per night. Good choice of breakfast foods. Hotel had a gym and pool. Dining room menu looked very good.

Review of Hotel Tossal D’Altea My disabledwife and myself took a 4 day 3 night stay here on the 18th to the 21th May. It turned out to be what is best described as a boutique 4-star hotel, which is run by3 generations of the same family. It was really difficult to find, as our GPS system led us on the final leg of the journey by a circuitous route that ended up on a final leg approach by an unmade lane bumpily leading gently upward through barren countryside. The main entrance to the hotel was raised, which made access to it difficult using a Zimmer Frame. Later on, we found a second, parallel entry door with ramp, which made us wonder why one hadn’t been laid there in the main entry in the first place. We thought this omission weird. Booking in was quick, and we were soon directed to use the adjoining lift. This too was a weird way to get up to the first floor. It was crowded, as my wife crouched over her Zimmer Frame, while I had to keep my finger pressed on the 1st floor button to set the lift in action. There was no inner door, so we watched our progress as the list passed upwards via the concrete ceiling and floors, and came to a sudden stop. The room near the far end of the corridor was spacious and clean, but had no balcony. It adjoined the steep access road at the side of the hotel. The only way to get her wheelchair into the room would have been to open the locked external door and use the narrow alleyway at the side of the steep road. It soon became apparent that this was the only genuine disabled room in the hotel. I collected the 2 suitcases later from the car, which I had parked in a single, covered section of the opposing carpark out of the sun. We chose to sit inside for the evening meal, in more warmth than the outside terrace. It overlooks a small shrub-edged grass garden and small saltwater swimming pool. We chose from the evening menu, which was balanced between main courses divided between meat and fish. One aspect of it that was apparent was that it never seemed to vary, which made a three night stay better for us. One comment I would make is that the serenity was often disturbed by the waiter’s use of a metal canteen trolley that was noisily pushed between the kitchen at the back and the two rows of tables on the terrace. This is not a 5star restaurant feature. Breakfast was a different matter altogether. It is run by the hotel’s female boss who, like it or not, cannot cope well with her duties. For example, the few toast grills are static, not rolling, and bread has to be pushed into and pulled from them with a kitchen pitchfork. The trouble is that they had often been turned off overnight and were not hot. Also, for some reason, they were turned off in the day as well. Another problem was the 3 heated trays with covers on them. The first two contained small fried eggs, the second with a type of Spanish tortilla. What’s the point of that, when Spanish sausages could have been there? The third tray was full of rows of streaky bacon. The problem was that they were all cold or lukewarm! What’s the point of cooking them if they are not kept hot? When I asked for Ketchup, the lady boss came back from the terrace with a handful of them. When I came to look for them the next day, only a few were visible next to the coffee machine, along with butter that rapidly disappeared and fruit juices not always replenished. It’s a hotchpotch of confusing places to search, the same with cereals and milk. You’re also expected to use only one knife for everything, which I resolved by helping myself from a nearby table in the terrace. Finally, I badly cut my arm in the lift, when trying to press a button further in. They had to go searching for the FirstAid box, which, when it came, was incomplete and various components had to be located. The lady boss came up to me and said that I should have gone to hospital, not rely on them. For such a simple plaster, all at that time potentially lost waiting? I think not. The local inspector should investigate this situation. I have seen FirstAid Kits before and this one was inadequate. I'll not stay there again.
