I’d give this place 8 stars. To begin Mehdi the MD of the Royal picked us up at the airport and on the journey along side my 19-year-old son Finbar, acquainted us with all we needed to know at that point re Hammamet. Tunisian born, Mehdi's English is perfect as is his French and Italian and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who knows more about this country than him. We woke the next day, our lovely spacious room (approx. 50 euros a night) overlooking a rather large pool that, the perfect temperature, we discovered was so fresh that even the hotel cat drinks from it. Immediately we were welcomed into the ‘family ‘- chef Karim, waiter bar man Malek and this spent most of our two weeks sitting by the pool even though the long white beach, which we visited on 5 occasions, was a 10-minute walkaway. You don’t get sand in your pants by the pool while food supplied and delivered from the excellent restaurant Da Noi a few doors up was spot on in very sense. A simply superb host Mehdi drove us the Carthage (a massive Roman spa/ leisure centre for the last 2000 years) and the amazing Sidi Bou Said, the astounding horseshoe bay Kelibia, The Roman Water temple and provided an unimpeachable history of every landmark, and conurbation on the way. He advised us on prices took us to a Hammam, arranged a local tailor to copy a prized shirt. To add the street where is sits is a lovely friendly thoroughfare where the products are price marked and better than in the Souk, the shop keepers are just nice and do not hassle while there are a brace if restaurants that are excellent even by my hi faluting central London standards .All in all, we’ve made a friend for life while his hotel is just perfect for our needs- big very clean spacious airy, air-conditioned suites with a cooker, fridge, shower and bath and beds almost 3 metres square covered in 100%cotton sheets. In short I could not recommend this hotel enough, that, worth far more than its cost, is a true gem. I’m coming back next year.

The apart hotel offered comfortable facilities including a fully equipped kitchen and modern deco with two wide balcony’s The apartment was clean and regularly cleaned The host Mahdi was very helpful and went out of his way to ensure my stay was pleasant

A belated report: We had a super holiday in Tunisia during April 2009 and part of it was due to this hotel. We stayed in the Royale Residence and had our meals in Le Hammamet Hotel. Our accommodation was excellent and kept clean. We found all the staff very pleasant. The food was superb which consisted of the more familiar Western European dishes to Tunisian/North African dishes. We always enjoy savouring local food whilst on holiday and it turned out to be a real treat here. The 2 hotels are joined together via the delightful gardens. All the accommodation looked lovely in these settings. The walk down to the beach is superb. The 2 coach trips we had to Tunis and El Jem were splendid days out. Old Hammamet has an interesting Medina but the local traders can be a bit tiresome trying to get you to part with your money. But don't be put off by them, it is a poor country. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

Just back from a week at this hotel,i have to say there was no problems here,but the Lybyan War has kept people away in droves,the hotel is great,rooms are big and spacious,well kept and clean,bring a kettle and iron though,we ate out most nights,i have to recommend the bella marina,da franco,les citronniers,restaurants which are all within walking disatance or for more upmarket get a taxi to yasmine only 3euro in a cab,there is a short cut to the beach at the back of hotel about 300 mtrs here is lovely clean sandy stretch but many sellers just say no thanks ,they understand,the staff at hotel are superb ,barmen saber and riath,waiters salim and monsour,simply great guys,you can change money at reception no problem its about 2dinars to 1euro,its only 3euro to hire the safe deposit box at reception for a week,i advise everyone to do this,many of the trips were cancelled due to low numbers,we took a trip round resort in a caleche,only cost 10 euro for an hour,his only customer for the day,the people of tunisia are so friendly they really need the tourists as they are very poor,they really appreciate a few dinars tips,so be generous they will thank you for it,the food was fantastic everywhere we went ,fruit doesnt look good but tastes devine esp fresh dates,its so cheap you will only pay half the cost of bills back home,the airport is brand new and so quick to pass through,you will have a good holiday here,rest assured and the sun is almost guaranteed to shine in the summer months,just go and enjoy!!!
