Overall a good holiday So I think what is key - this hotel is for the you but depends on what you like. The complex is massive, if you are placed in the main hotel complex it’s a walk (approx 500-600 steps) to breakfast, pools, beach etc. which was fine for us as we wanted to get our steps in, but I would ask for a different area close to amenities if you have mobility issues. There are plenty of pools and seating but if you want prime seats you will need to get up at the crack of dawn to do that. The beach is lovely but please be mindful it gets deep very quickly and can be rough. There are lots of food options, from main restaurants, pool bar, beach bar. If you want the additional restaurants please book on day one of your holiday. We personally didn’t try them but would be worth it to get out of the main eating area. Please utilise the hotel app it’s helpful as there is a lot going on. It also tells you about peak times. Big hotel means a lot of people. I would say early eating is better than late. The food was good with lots of options from our experience. The hotel was clean and the staff worked hard all the time. The iced coffee from the pool bar are the best! The entertainment: we had a toddler he has a blast from kids parties each evening, day time activities, face painting, beach play area, pool play area, baby pool, another baby pool with small smaller slides and then the bigger pools and the slides which were great. The life guards are very active about safety and the hotel keeps to time regarding opening and closing slides. If you need time out: there is a smaller relax pool which is really for adults, also the spa has an indoor pool. We did not try the spa treatments so no comment there. So considerations: 1. The place is big and might be too big for some people. 2. The gym needs to open earlier and have some cleaning equipment- it was very busy in there afternoons. Alternatively you can do a 5/10km walk or run around the complex easily. 3. The rooms were good spacious but the beds were so hard and uncomfortable. If you like a hard mattress happy for you, I have joint issues and it was so painful. I saw others reviews about this so I took a small travel mattress overlay which helped but it really wasn’t enough. 4. I would say 98% of staff are great but you do notice some staff treating people differently if they tip, if they are men but overall staff were nice. 5. Take the peak times in the main restaurant seriously it’s overwhelming at times the volume of people in there at the one time. Honestly eat early so you have lots of food options and not so many people. 6. It takes a really long time from the airport to the hotel. I would invest in a private transfer especially if you have kids.

“Great for families.”

We came to Calimera as a family of seven adults, although the youngest two were 21. A nice hotel with lovely bars, a good choice of restaurants with a variety of interesting food. It’s quite a large complex so requires a reasonable amount of walking around, which certainly kept us active. Very nice… more

We came to Calimera as a family of seven adults, although the youngest two were 21. A nice hotel with lovely bars, a good choice of restaurants with a variety of interesting food. It’s quite a large complex so requires a reasonable amount of walking around, which certainly kept us active. Very nice and relaxing Beach bar with a selection of sunbeds and Bali beds at the calmer end of the Beach. A beach restaurant provides several lunch options in addition to the main dining area and there’s plenty of beach sunbeds. Plenty for families to do if you have children. The waterslides for adults are also good fun and there are many other activities available on On The Beach. The relax pool was our preferred choice of pool as it is kept mostly child free and a little calmer. I would say that it could do with a little more signage indicating that it is childfree however,as several people brought their children in for fun and games and were unaware that it was supposed to be a quieter pool. There’s lots other pools looked great for older kids and the shallow pools (3 with various sizes of slides) were lovely for small children & babies. There’s lots of activities and music during the day, and it can get a little loud but again there are places to go to avoid it. Plenty of shows in the evenings but there are bars away from the main activities if you want a quieter time. The bars are not rushed! Therefore at busy times you have to queue for drinks for quite some time which can be frustrating. It’s probably not the best choice for adults who want some peace and quiet by the pool but for families it’s got lots to offer. It is a large venue though so bear in mind there are a lot of people around. Staff were pleasant and the hotel is very clean , tidy and looked after. Overall for the reasonable price we paid we think it was a good deal.
